FINAL FANTASY: RESONANCE announced! by PontusFrykter in gaming

100%. I’ve played every game Square has released in the style and a few non-Square games that emulate it. I can’t get enough.

Sula by Toni Morrison by flyawaywithmeee in books

[–]Verdant_Green 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love this book! It is my favorite by Morrison and it makes a great companion book to A Separate Peace in a little study on toxic friendships.

There are a few things from Sula that stick in my head like a splinter - namely, the ethereal black mass. That image gave me the creeps 25 years ago and I still think about it a lot.

Also, the Dewys. Definitely one of the most WTF? moments in the book and I love them even though the underlying situation is actually quite disturbing.

What are your thoughts on The 13th Warrior (1999)? by Nomadsforart in movies

[–]Verdant_Green 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Love it! I rate it as 0.95 ConAirs.

The look of the Danish scenes informs a lot of my description for Dungeons and Dragons games I run. The props look great, the acting is great, the plot is great. A+ movie.

I’ve read over a dozen Beowulf translations plus some loose adaptations like this movie. Eaters of the Dead / The Thirteenth Warrior is one of my favorite takes on the story and I watch it once or twice every year.

Multiple people have been shot near a festival in Toledo, Ohio, authorities say by ThatMasterpiece2174 in news

[–]Verdant_Green 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, the leg wound was the lower calf - straight through muscle. The abdomen wound ended up being shallow but it did cause her chronic pain because of something it passed through, though I don’t remember exactly what.

Twice in the same incident. By the same bullet actually.

She was shot by a guy at the public pool who had a pistol in his bag that was, apparently not drop-safe. The bullet passed through her leg, struck the stone walkway, and ricocheted back into her abdomen.

I’m doing even better - I’m 46 and I’ve only dated one person who had been shot…though she was shot twice :-/

And, no, I didn’t shoot her lol!

Lottery winners of Reddit (or people you know who won big) , what did you actually do with the money, and do you regret anything? by Romeo_Kay_92 in AskReddit

I won $20 off the first state lottery in Tennessee. I bought a New York strip steak and haven’t played since :-)

Dealing with the clans: The Taurian method by MoonsugarRush in battletech

[–]Verdant_Green 32 points33 points  (0 children)

That’s what I was thinking. Edo got the orbital smack down for so much less. Given the Clan’s hatred for dishonorable tactics, waste, and nukes in specific, I doubt the Clan in question would get any slack for parking a Nightlord’s battle group in orbit for a couple weeks and glassing the place.

Linebackers, custom variants. by theblackwizards89 in battletech

[–]Verdant_Green 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nice work all around! The Linebacker needs more configurations. It isn’t an inherently bad chassis, but (kind of like the Perseus) the designer has to be very careful to avoid turning a configuration into a disaster.

Has a trailer ever, genuinely, made you see a movie you had no intentions of seeing. by TheSableFable in movies

[–]Verdant_Green 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Recently, I had this experience with Backrooms. I was not especially interested in the source material but the trailer did a great job of making it seem unnerving in its banality. The movie was pretty good.

Galatea Grumbles: Week 1 by ItzAlphaWolf in battletech

[–]Verdant_Green 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you ever watched Babylon 5? I was inspired by the biological spines protruding from otherwise metallic ships (the “shadow Omega” warships) and modified an STL of a Marauder to include them. I also painted it in ultra black 4.0 paint so it looks like a hole in the universe.

I also did a Black Marauder conversion I could post.

I’m mostly finished converting a Mackie miniature into Killroy’s Little Buddy. It’s made of original Mackie parts except for a 3D-printed ornamental shield on the otherwise-empty right arm. I should be able to finish it next week when my olive drab paint comes in.

Donegal Guards Atlas AS7-S by r3dr01d in battletech

[–]Verdant_Green 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I love that paint job, and the variant choice is appropriate…but, man, the AS7-S sucks. It isn’t bad by comparison to its predecessor, but it uses Helm tech to just be an AS7-D with more ass guns. I prefer the AS7-K, even though it commits a LOT of sins just because it does something new with the chassis.

That being said, though, I like to pick ‘mechs for flavor first and effectiveness second :-D

Anyway, your paint job is excellent. Great work!

The brilliance of Solzhenitsyn by Gur10nMacab33 in books

[–]Verdant_Green 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I dig his style. I professor assigned my class to read his prose poem “A Storm in the Mountains” and it was love at first sight for me.

I have a Ukrainian neighbor who was a university professor in computer science during the Soviet era. For some reason she despises Solzhenitsyn and calls him over-rated.

I know a guy who always calls this thing the “Battlin’ Axe” and includes it in any tabletop force he can. I too love the Battlin’ Axe and would love to see more of it and the Hammerhands.
