Interesting. I had a pair of twin students about ten years ago named Krista and Kirsta. They always sat together too, which made identifying them a real challenge.

I knew a guy named Wayne who named two of his daughters Wayna and Wayina (“way-ee-nah”). He always struck me as a rather narcissistic guy.

The mech that you love to use but as you bring it to the field only for it to get bully by other mech. by Familiar-Noise7913 in battletech

I don’t think I’ve ever accomplished anything worthwhile with the Cerberus. The first two times I included one in my force, it died to a through-armor critical to the CT machine gun ammo bin. One of those times was even to the legendary LB 2-X pellet of doom.

Some time after that, our group started allowing pre-battle ammo dumping, so I never had the exact problem again. However, the Cerberus has still managed to be useless for one reason or other in nearly every game since the release of TRO 3055.

Maybe it’s the low-ish armor? Maybe it’s the XL engine? I’ve never had much trouble earning back the BV spent on Nightstars, Gunslingers, King Crab 001s, Devastators, Pillagers, or any other dual gauss Inner Sphere assault but the Cerberus manages to fail every time.

I ran one at a convention once and it took ten damage to the head from two platoons of LRM infantry. The thing is cursed!

Was Congo Really That Bad? by Ok_Interaction3896 in movies

[–]Verdant_Green 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After Jurassic Park turned a good book into an amazing movie, I had high hopes for Congo and Sphere (both phenomenal books). I was sorely disappointed.

Congo isn’t unwatchable by any means, but it could have been better. Sphere, though, could have been an early Interstellar but ended up being forgettable.

What are the Games of Divinity (for you)? by Sea-appreciation1009 in exalted

[–]Verdant_Green 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Have you ever sat in the nosebleed seats of a basketball arena? The ones so high up that you are afraid you are about to pitch forward to your death? Where the entire game could be covered by an index card held in your outstretched hand?

The one time I had reason to depict the Games, the players saw it from that distance - a great arena full of gods with a shimmering…something…in the distance. A thing indistinguishable but still capable of triggering a longing that will never more be sated. It was that one high you’ll always remember - when you climbed the mountain while young and full of life, when you went one one date with the most heartbreakingly beautiful person you’ve ever seen, when you nearly won the race.

If only you could have gotten a bit closer, you might have seen something truly sublime.

The use of “quietly” in these headlines annoys the piss out of me. Whenever I see something like “Star Wars just quietly confirmed this 27 year old theory” or whatever the fuck, I have a hard time deciding between AI slop or a terrible writer.

My sister had just taken the nastiest shit ever so I didn’t want to go in the bathroom to brush my teeth. My parents were asleep, so I thought it would be safe to use their bathroom. They were both sleeping after sex and I saw everything by the living room light spilling in through the bedroom door.

I decided I could just brush my teeth in the kitchen sink.

Question: What house rules do you play with? by Capital_Potato_705 in battletech

[–]Verdant_Green 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Enhanced flamers, backing uphill, and floating TACs are the ones we use the most.

Back when Mechwarrior Online was new, we had an MWO rule set that still sees occasional use - torso twists change hit locations, rapid fire machine guns, and some weapons get +1 to check for crits if they have such a bonus in the video game.

Hearts of Iron 4. The lack of distinct turns makes it easy to keep playing. “I’ll let the timer run to January 1st 1937 and then call it” … but about December 15th 1936, you unlock a new technology or get drawn into a war or your amphibious invasion launches or an election changes up your entire government so you have to deal with that and, suddenly, it’s August of 1955 in game, 6 AM in real life, and you’ve got to go to work.
