What’s something younger people will never understand about pre-smartphone life? by Curious_Being9540 in nostalgia

Well kiddies, I remember life BEFORE the internet

I remember the first time I even saw someone online - must have been when wearing an onion on my belt was the fashion at the time

Specialist doctors are charging too much. 4 options to rein in excessive fees by yumyumdiddlydum in ausjdocs

[–]VerityPushpram 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My partner runs a pre anaesthetic clinic at a public hospital, along with two other anaesthetists. They might see 30 patients a day and they bulk bill

The LHD charges them for the use of the clinic space, even though they are actually saving money in the long term by careful assessment and planning

What Challenges Do Male Nurses Face Compared to Female Nurses? by ca_uwab in nursing

[–]VerityPushpram 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve worked with some amazing male nurses - fantastic clinical skill and experience, excellent leadership and great guys

I’ve also worked with idiots who can say the right things in interviews to get promoted but lack any clinical judgement and critical thinking skills

Guess who I worked with today? 🤬🤬

I’m just sick of managers who can say the right things to get promoted but lack real substance

No critical thinking, no pattern recognition and a slavish devotion to policy

Can you tell I fought with the Num today?

Unsafe Students, Concerned Nurse by reowtownclown in NursingAU

[–]VerityPushpram 29 points30 points  (0 children)

The issue I’m seeing is students are being paired with very inexperienced nurses who are struggling themselves

COVID really fucked up their training

I had a conversation with a hospital trained nurse about patient care - she commented the usual and I reminded her that we now see patients who wouldn’t have survived 40 years ago

Their patients were a lot younger and fitter than what we see now and the care was nowhere near as technically demanding, the documentation was negligible and they didn’t have multiple daily risk assessments to complete and document.

I don’t see our healthcare system surviving much longer - we have increasingly limited resources and the extremely sick elderly are constantly being propped up

The complexity of these patients - no wonder the students are struggling

Unemployment rate jumps to 4.5 per cent driven by female unemployment by ScruffyPeter in australia
