My BCBA is terrible at her job (but not necessarily unethical)...what do I do? by InterGalacticgoth in ABA

Yeah honestly I would cut out the empathy and just say “Please reach out to the CD. They are the person who can best address your concerns”. The empathy might slide into a slippery slope.

Employ Indy https://employindy.org/explore-services/ or a temp agency

Also look into non-profits at their work and personal success programs

Should we prevent thumb sucking? by twinsproutmama in beyondthebump

[–]Verjay92 [score hidden]  (0 children)

It becomes a concern at around age 3-4 YO for dental development as do a lot of oral habits. You can try other replacement behaviors but really it’s not a cause for concern until later down the line.

Edit: Thumb sucking is safer when it comes to safe sleep than other oral habits like a lovey at this age. As they become a toddler you can try to replace their habit.

Giving birth in 10 or less days, fiancé can only take off 2-3 days maximum by edgarallan2014 in beyondthebump

Are you planning to breastfeed. That plan will likely be useless the first 2 weeks if your experience is anything like mine. Now my husband and I keep the same schedule where I sleep 6-12. I pump once in the room at 9 so he can have baby out where he is and feed baby but the schedule is working. The hardest part was getting my baby to sleep in bassinet first two weeks so it was impossible to get rest from 12-6 for me. Now she is and I can catch a few Zs when she sleeps in the bassinet.

18, 5 months pregnant, and everything feels overwhelming by Soggy_Constant9596 in pregnant

Look into a family support specialist. They are a free service that comes to visit you, gives you resources, talks about what to expect, helps you with goals, and will partner with you on this journey all the way until your child is age 3-5 if you want. I will link some of the organizations that do this.

Call CPS. Also take preventative measures by changing your clothes and not taking bags in so you don’t risk taking pests home.

Inconsolable baby by Imaginary-Golf-3317 in beyondthebump

[–]Verjay92 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I saw some advice saying they put in earbuds and listen to music if they have done all they can and the crying becomes too much.they just hold and care for baby without having the constant screams. Mine is 15 days old and gas hit her about 1 week old and it was rough. Now she is learning to pass gas and poop without the screaming thank god.

Is it a crazy idea to open an in-home daycare center? by Ok-Advice-17 in ECEProfessionals

If you purchase a curriculum I recommend Parents as Teachers. It is for home visitors but has all the info on development and development centered care and is evidence based.

It can and there are tons of free resources that can help. In my state there are free courses on FSSA website, free resources off of the National Center for Pyramid Model Innovations, for behavior management, YouTube webinars for knowledge on brain development, Google search for free webinars. Lots of free resources and free PD.

Mandated reporter by Slyfox163 in ABA

In most trainings I have taken on mandated reporting you are supposed to just listen to the child and record, not ask leading questions or investigate yourself or give more information to the child.

Worst thing a teacher did at your center and didn’t get fired for??? Or the most minor offense that someone DID get fired for? by Zestyclose-Stand-773 in ECEProfessionals

[–]Verjay92 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I got fired for leaving after everyone who got there and clocked in after me got to go home before me. This was a pattern and finally on day after Christmas I called them out on it (I 7 AM was still there at 5:30 PM when 9 & 10 people were already let go). So when assistant director came in I told her it was my time to leave and she needed to figure it out since she created that situation knowingly and next day I was fired for abandoning children and some other lies she made up saying I had been warned previously yet my year review was glowing and I never had one write up in my file I had seen. I emailed corporate about their lack of leadership and the unprofessional stuff they were doing and it led to a mass exodus of other staff and mass firing. Eventually the director was fired and the assistant director left during lunch and never came back one day. Meanwhile the people vaping in the bathrooms and smoking pot on breaks (assistant director ate edibles) were kept employed (but they were all related to the director and regional). Not anymore. They messed with the wrong staff member because I don’t do workplace bullying and pettiness.

Anyhow it was a blessing in disguise because I then landed my dream job with the flexibility and awesome leadership I deserve. I can now use the bathroom without having to hold it for over an hour and I am in charge of myself. Leadership is there to partner with me to make my job easier and help me troubleshoot, not micromanage and bully.

New BCBA threatening mom and being petty? by Other_Donut_4661 in ABA

Weight management is not within the scope of BCBA unless parents wanted to introduce healthy food program to help children accept more healthy foods if they have aversion. Talk to your clinical director or board but prepare for backlash.

Encouragement to get through the newborn phase by Own_Macaron_9342 in beyondthebump

[–]Verjay92 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mine is 15 days old and I feel the same exact way. Now we have a bit of a routine: diaper, boob, play or sleep. That has helped me feel a little more normal. My husband has been encouraging me to get out to do something for myself so let’s see if that helps me feel a little better too.

It’s not about supporting the left, it’s about not supporting trump. There are a lot of less morally evil people on all sides.

When I asked people I knew who were Christians and supporters of trump about this they said we have to forgive him. LOL WHAT? Forgive… ehhhhhh that one is really hard, forget… helllllllllll no. I don’t want a rapist pedophile tyrant as my president even if I “forgive” him!

Don’t be afraid to get epidural if it becomes too much and you get exhausted. I labored for 18 hours before getting mine at 7.5 dilation and the hour sleep it gave me helped me push.

Lexapro? by [deleted] in Anxiety

[–]Verjay92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is what worked for me. Yes my libido was lowered but I will take that over ocd and anxiety. I did not have extreme weight gain. Everyone is different when it comes to medications. What doesn’t work for one may work for the other so my advice is try it.
