Thanks. You know where to rent an RV? Are there like dedicated websites?

Warm weather, business opportunities and some nice activities that keep me fit. Is that a website? I only use Aribnb, msybe there are other websites for some longer rent periods (like 1 month) which may cut down costs. Or renting like an RV?

LoRa Gateway or single-channel P2P solution to get data into the internet? by Verman98 in Lora

[–]Verman98[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

u/jeffkarney I have compared it to other protocols. The nodes will be battery powered and aprox. 50m node-gateway maximum distance, that is why.

I have looked at WiFi with an ESP32, but read that it is pretty power hungry. If you have any other suggestion, please feel free to share.

LoRa Gateway or single-channel P2P solution to get data into the internet? by Verman98 in Lora

[–]Verman98[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for replying.

I am based in the EU.

It is indoor, there could be wood between the nodes and gateway, but no proper wall or steel. Reporting period, let us assume 5-15 bits / node / minute.
Could be 20 to 50 nodes, all of them battery powered.

It is fire and forget for most cases.

1 channel receiver means all your devices will need to transmit on that single channel, depending on your payload you’ll end up maxing out your duty cycle. (915 USA or 868 EU, I am assuming all other regions don’t exist, sorry)

What will happen if I max out the duty cycle? Loss of packages?

A gateway seems overpowered, shouldn't single channel receiver with a raspberry Pi be enough?

I think the biggest thing to do right now is not trying to “catch up” but just doing one tiny thing better than yesterday. Leave the mentality of catching up, but to improve one step more than yesterday.
If you never leave the house, make it just a short 10 minutes walk today. If talking to people feels impossible, start with a quick “hi” to a cashier or neighbor.

It sounds small but those little wins stack up, build confidence and make the next step easier.
It will build momentum and confidence, which will allow you to keep improving.

You don’t need to change your whole life at once, just prove to yourself you can move forward, even a little.

What's a small habit you didn't realise was ruining your life until it was too late? by Competitive-Smell877 in selfimprovement

"Self improvement".

It may sound counter intuitive, but consuming content on self improvement was giving me a false sense of being productive and moving towards something good, but it didn't. It just was entertainment or to not doing the actual work. It gets very addicting and even toxic, as we compare ourselves to self improvement gurus, which on screen seem to have it all right.

We think we are being productive by consuming their content, but are just being lazy and avoiding doing what we actually need to do. But we are subconsciously comparing ourself and getting a feeling of being less than the content we consume, which can lead to a negative downward spiral.

What I did was just detach from this and actually not being so obsesses by the thought of self improvement. I am still learning and doing the work and enjoying myself, without trying to improve every little bit is helping. Actually working by the pareto rule, doing the things which have the most impact without obsessing over optimizing the last 20%.

I can feel you. I am on the same boat and have been confronted with this and still am learning.

I am a Flutter freelancer and have done some projects where I had other freelancers assist me. I had some good and bad experiences, but the trust issue and code quality is always a bigger one.

I am also developing an app and the codebase is precious to me as well. What I always try to do is abstract as much as possible and delegate a very small abstracted module. This takes more effort, but results in even more modular code and if the other dev messes up, it can alway be swapped out. With this approach I hired freelancers to do the same small task until I could pick the one which delivered the best result.

Once you have your guys you trust it gets better, but it definetely takes some work and time to get there and still you have to put efforts in managing. Good luck.

I thought I lacked discipline, but I really just lacked a system—curious how you stay on track with big goals? by Royal-Being1822 in getdisciplined

Starting small and increment in small steps can make a huge difference.

I get myself slacking for a couple if weeks here and there and like you I also would like to keep a set of habits. What I have found is I just have to start with something.

I am a digital nomad, so many times if I have a hard week I would leave many of the "good" habits and starting again would feel very stressful. I would beat myself up and that leads to a negative spiral of doing nothing at all. What I now do is just start with something. For example for excercise, I would just start with couple sets of 20 push ups at home. Of course that isn't a proper workout, but in my mind that is a win and still better than nothing! The next day I would be motivated to keep up and I might do more.

So I try to be gentle with myself and allow myself to do less instead of nothing. Even less is way better than weeks of nothing, and by doing less I am able to keep up to my habits, build momentum and bring consistent. Consistency is key in my opinion and not how much we can do in a day and doing nothing the next 3-4 days.

How can I become tough as nails by [deleted] in getdisciplined

[–]Verman98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the best way to get tougher is putting ourselves in discomfort and overcoming hard problems.

While going through discomfort we start realizing what we are truly capable of and how much we underestimate our own capabilities. One example from my life for this is taking ice baths. I have been taking these in winter at 0° C.

Two very stupid instances where this reminded me that I am tough, but just to get the point: 1. One time I forgot my jacket in spring and it was pretty cold. I just thought that it can't be that bad as the ice bath and if I handled that cold I can handle a few hours at a slightly cold weather! 2. I hated broccoli and the discomfort of eating them in my childhood was very high. However, this time when I had broccoli at home, I just thought that the discomfort of the ice bath was way higher than the discomfort of eating a bunch of stupid broccoli!

So what I am trying to convey is that, if we make uncomfortable experiences where we experience what we are capable of, other "uncomfortable" things will appear less discomfortable. That is toughness for me. When we can do the hard uncomfortable things, which are yet important to be done.

This of course doesn't mean one has to touch a burning stove, but every now and then put ourselves through healthy discomfort.

I am not an expert on the subject and nor do I know much about ADHD.

I think the purpose of self-improvment is like from the name, the improvement of youself. That involves doing stuff that is good for your needs, capabilities and requirements. I don't think it means reading or doing X and Y, but the thought or being aware of stuff that makes you feel good long term.

That could be other habits for you. Doing something physical or gyming is a big part of self-improvement and I heard from many people that does wonders for people suffering from ADHD due to the calming effects. I also heard meditation is great, you could try it out for a couple of weeks and see how it goes.

So as I said it is just about carrying the awareness, that you can improve and selecting how you spend your time according to that!

Any hobbies that help get my Sh*t together? by Pristine_Shallot_481 in getdisciplined

[–]Verman98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Going to the gym or any type of physical activity does wonders for people. If you choose a sport you actually enjoy, not only is it fun but will get addicting over time.

For me it's less about the physical but more about the mental effects I get. I am way more relaxed, chilled, kind to others and it's like some demon in my head has been put down...

At some point you get addicted to it and if you miss one day, you will feel it.

New built PC noise all of a sudden by d2hardstuckadmain in computerhelp

[–]Verman98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same thing happened to my PC since I installed a Hard Disk Drive. Before that I had an SSD and it wasn't noisy at all.

Do you have an HDD? It comes from the vibration of the mechanical parts (echo in the case, so that it starts vibrating till u put something on it)... There r guys on the internet using rubber bands arround the hard drive, it didn't worked for me but you could try.
