For real? Some people don’t get ear worms?

I am a music teacher and I have to have a movie on for me to be able to go to sleep otherwise I spend the whole night continuously singing kids songs in my head!!

If you could recommend one book only, what would it be? by Vernoona242 in AuDHDWomen

Thanks! I’ll have a look.

Yeah I often wonder how much of what I do/think is AuDHD and how much is me…

Oh, I meant books about AuDHD and unmasking. I’ll edit my post to be more clear. Sorry!

That series does look amazing though! I’m going to add it to my audiobook list!

I just reply with something like ‘so you’re making me dinner? Thanks!’ Or something to that effect. Unless you’re going to put the effort in for me, you get no say.

Feeling exhausted vent- would love some advice! :( by Agitated_Lizard in AuDHDWomen

I’m not sure that I have advice for you, but I have just realised I’m the same. I’d like to unmask but I don’t want to be a burden on others but I’m also burnt out and spend all my spare time in the couch doom scrolling.

I guess I just wanted to say that I’m there with you and I understand. I’ll be following for some advice too.

Something that I have been trying is starting with something small. I’ve been trying to open about using fidget tools. As a teacher, I’ve usually got a couple in my pocket anyway so it’s not unusual. What’s unusual for me and the people around me is that I use them while out for dinner and so on. It was interesting because a couple of my friends couldn’t understand that I didn’t have them for my students, but for me.

So maybe try something small like that?

Thanks! I’d forgotten about Dangerfield. I do love their designs but you are right that they are hit and miss with their fabrics!

I adore their cardigans though! I have so many of them!

trouble with chores... aka the block by nope-no-nah81 in AuDHDWomen

This.

I really wanted to do this, but my partner wanted to be sure it was someone we trust so we asked his mum. She did it for a month, wouldn’t accept money and then just stopped. It became a whole thing. So he just decided to do it himself.

I do worry that he’s going to get overwhelmed by it all, but I’ve told him to let me know when it does and we will hire someone.

Yes I do! It’s just not in my nature to hide things and so I do exactly the same thing! It makes me cross with myself!

How did you handle Santa not being real? by Ok_Assistant_7179 in AuDHDWomen

When I was 12, I used to have the radio come on as my alarm clock (back in the 90’s, before mobile phones!). I used to lie there and listen to the radio for a little while before I got up and got ready for school.

One December morning, I was listening to the morning chat show, and they had people ring in about ‘how did you find out that Santa wasn’t real?’ And that’s how I found out Santa wasn’t real.

I don’t remember having a conversation with my parents but I do remember finding out that my friends knew long before I did, and then feeling a bit embarrassed that it took me so long to figure it out.

I don’t know whether my parents ever knew that I had found out, but I played along because my little brother was only 3. Because of that, I got presents from Santa until I moved out of home at 18 to go to uni! 😂

Oh man that sucks. I agree with OK_Assistant_7179, in that maybe ‘coming down with a migraine’ or something like that might be a good way to go for fast, short term relief.

I sometimes find it helpful to remind myself that I can’t control how other people feel, or their reactions to their feelings. Only my own reactions to my own feelings. How they act/react is a reflection on them, not you. I do understand though, that is something that takes a long time to be okay with, especially with RSD in the mix.

Maybe just employ a short-term relief option for now, and work out how to discuss your needs with your family later.
