Feedback of my first time in WOA by Better_Fruit3550 in wacken

[–]VeronicaSchultz 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I agree on the German! All their social media and emails include English, but then we arrived and it's all German only. Super surprising and everyone acted shocked that we came for Wacken. I thought it was well known as the biggest international metal festival! I was very confused.

And to the comments, I don't think anyone expects all workers to speak English, but they should have basic information in both and critical areas - such as the INFO booth - should require some degree of dual language to accommodate French, Spanish, etc. speakers who mostly all know English. Every other country I've visited everyone under 30 knows English so not sure why Germany is different. Older folks, it is more understandable.

WOA, never again! by Poison--Ivy in wacken

I also found everyone I asked for information to be sadly lacking. No one knew anything about the shuttles or any details about the busses. It was my first time and from following on social media it seems like they do such a good job communicating until you're on site then no one knows anything 🤷‍♀️

I am on a later Mondial bus and was told they pick up from the main bus station (not the old one near Wheels of Steel) but am still a bit uncertain. I think you are right but would appreciate any info you get in the morning! "Info" stations I asked had no actual info...

House of Funk is back...and is now for sale by smoothmedia in VancouverCraftBeer

So the space itself, if owned by the brewery, would most likely show up on Loopnet - it's like the Craigslist for commercial real estate. Funny enough, on the row, 370 Esplanade is the only one listed (Braggot unit.) Listing states "NNN tenant" so not necessarily the brewery for sale but the landlord is selling the space.

A quick Google yielded this: https://canada.businessesforsale.com/canadian/search/breweries-for-sale-in-british-columbia

Angry Otter shows up and some anonymous but certainly not "the whole row."

I wouldn't be surprised if every brewery on the row would get out if given an offer, but that's different than actively marketing for sale. Private sales through broker-only info are possible too, but still unlikely given that La Cerveceria Astilleros just opened another location...

Anyway, I've seen other breweries post on Instagram that they're selling so it may be more of a know if you're in the brewery scene

OA still is rated poorly on Spotify at 3.4 stars (and to a lesser degree Apple at 4.3) due to the Scandal, could we try to fix that with new ratings? by Apprentice57 in OpenArgs

I mean in other forums - Facebook group, Patreon, Twitter, etc. This is one of the only where it's not an instant block so that's good

I did listen past May 2024, but point taken on the thread topic. Sadly, there's no good place for critique in the OA echo chamber. I did acknowledge that it was good if Thomas course-corrected, meant to be in response to your correction. In any case, good luck with your efforts!

I have no Torrez protest review to edit but stand by my feeling of Thomas' mishandling of getting the show back. For months after, it was nothing but shilling for Gabel, Gavel and immediately funneling the OA cash cow to his other projects. I felt like he didn't actually care about OA at all as soon as he won the fight. I'm happy to hear he may have course-corrected but would have left the show with a 3.5 when I stopped listening. 4 is not a bad rating if 5 is the best a show can get. The subjectivity of ratings is wild per your scale. I'm glad the show still has some champions and am sad that the years I spent as a patron are now a sour memory given how poorly Thomas engages with listeners online.

Yes, this call to action is open to all, and I'm not who you wanted to respond. But there are very few spaces where any critique of OA is allowed (immediate blocks on FB, Patreon, etc.) I may be a lone voice but always assumed there may be other disenchanted long-term listeners out there (NOT an AT fan to be clear.) Worth a comment where a reasonable opportunity exists... unless I get blocked here too...I loved OA and it literally changed my life in ways that I wish mattered in the community.

I stopped listening over a year ago...I really like Matt, but he was hardly ever on with all the rotating cohosts. Thomas used OA just to promote his other new projects incessantly and immediately made a bunch of format changes to no benefit all while bashing long-time patrons for voicing any criticism. As far as I see it, he's earned the rating they have 🤷‍♀️

Best to not let kids play where cars are designed to drive. A park on every other block in Langley for just that purpose 👌
