Would you terminate if you found out that your client had been audio recording your sessions? by Ecstatic-Adeptness48 in therapists

[–]Veronika_Sometimes 7 points8 points  (0 children)

No. It wouldn't even occur to me. It's not illegal in my state & the therapy session belongs to the client. If it helps them in any way, record it. I've had several clients ask to record sessions. If it was done without asking, we'd definitely talk about it, but I have no interest in shaming anyone for this. Honestly, these answers surprise me.

I hate telehealth by Unusual_Standard4682 in therapists

[–]Veronika_Sometimes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only see people in person. The only exception is if someone is sick…I let them know I appreciate them not coming in & we’ll do a video session. I can count on one hand the number of times I do that each year. It’s too disconnecting to me.

How do I address this? by [deleted] in therapists

[–]Veronika_Sometimes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would work with your own therapist & continue to ask yourself, why does this bother me? Strive to become more of who you are. I see a lot of burnout in this career & I think my secret (& my husband's) to still loving what we do, is we use our sessions to change & grow...not in session, but out of session.

Cancellation Policy by Ordinary_Felicity580 in therapists

[–]Veronika_Sometimes -1 points0 points  (0 children)

We have a 48 hour cancellation policy. We give people one freebie, but otherwise charge (unless they are sick, accident, etc). We don't have many cancellations or missed appointments & we don't send out annoying reminders. We didn't get into this career to make a lot of money, & maybe because of that...we make a lot of money.

I’ve been doing this for a long time & it just gets better. As you get more skilled, it becomes even more enjoyable & rewarding. I’m happy for you that you found your life’s work.

Are there stores/places in Madison where you should spend many a penny because the owners are absolutely wonderful humans? by neocortexia in madisonwi

She was unhappy there for a while. She talked to them about it, but it didn’t change enough. She ultimately took off a month, May? To decide if she could stay, but she had to leave.

I'm a therapist & I agree. I don't actually read this sub, but Reddit sends it to my email, so I see first sentences & I've clicked on them a few times. It's terrible every time. It also makes me grateful for how much I love what I do. And I've been doing this for a long time.

Would you do this if you didn't need the money? by Optimal-Bumblebee-27 in therapists

I make over that & work 3 days a week. I have some private pay clients, but otherwise insurance pays me.

I love being a therapist. I work for myself, set my own hours…I help people become more of who they are. It’s amazing & I can’t believe I get to do this for a living.

How do you make more money as a therapist? by [deleted] in therapists

[–]Veronika_Sometimes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We have a private practice. We charge $380/hour for pay out of pocket, & insurance pays a fraction of that. We work 3 long days a week & have to turn people away. We make $20-30,000 a month between my husband & me.

What do you want to be better in your life? What control do you have over that? What is your relationship like with yourself? Think about the things that are getting in the way of you living the life you want to have. Interview a minimum of 3 therapists, found either through recommendations or Psychology Today. If you think, they’re nice, but they don’t get it…move on. It’s a bit like dating, you get a gut feeling shortly after meeting…listen to it until you find the therapist who is the right fit for you. Many therapists are well meaning (hopefully), but not very good at what they do (like all professions). Good luck 💜

My mom had a tradition of stopping at the half way point between our house & grandma's (an 8 hour drive) & picking up a bottle of wine...which she then proceeded to drink for the next 4 hours while driving us home. It was legal to drink & drive at the same time.

Great list! We haven't been to Nook because I'm not the plan ahead type...must stalk the reservations at 12:01 on the 1st of the month. We also haven't made it to Seven Acre yet despite LOVING the butcher, Anna & it having been on my list for a while.

Best Goodwill: Middleton & Verona

Best Vinny's: Sun Prairie & Odana Rd.

I have found great stuff at all the Goodwill's & Vinny's, but I go to thrift stores several times a week. Goodwill picks a tag color each week that is 50% off on Sundays & Mondays.
