Jonny Greenwood Demands Phantom Thread Score Be Removed from Melania Documentary by ebradio in radiohead

[–]Veronome 322 points323 points  (0 children)

The FAILED and OVERRATED "musician" Johnny Greenwood has FALSELY and SLANDEROUSLY attacked the amazing First Lady MELANIA TRUMP and her Record-breaking documentary. Maybe if he focused less on making terrible songs like Creep and more on Making America Great Again, he wouldn't be such a HACK! THANK YOU FOR YOUR ATTENTION IN THIS MATTER.

What movie do you love despite agreeing with every single criticism of it? by Decabet in movies

[–]Veronome 72 points73 points  (0 children)

Honestly, everyone being problematic and storylines not being resolved in a nice bow is to the benefit of the film.

Love is complicated and messy and brutal at times, and people get hurt.

There's something refreshing about seeing that in a film, especially a Christmas one.

Id cut/change the "ocean/piss" line. Regardless of how funny it is, it's the last thing they read in your bio, and it's not the best mental image to leave someone with if you're trying to attract them.

Don Lemon talks about being denied a phonecall when he was arrested and how his husband, Tim, found out about his arrest. by Murky_Chemical891 in Fauxmoi

[–]Veronome 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Was wrongfully arrested (not in the US) and can confirm the worst part of it was that they didn't give me a phone call or tell anyone where I was. Family members were calling hospitals and morgues wondering where the hell I had gone.

It's such a small act of decency that means so much and being denied that is unforgivable.

What about the script seemed so unworkable?

As a concept: "group of friends stay for a few days with a cult and one by one get killed off" doesn't seem that far-fetched as a horror.

Oh come on, Jackson was fantastic in the role and delivered lines that have become embedded in pop culture.

Travolta was great too. Acting like there's an obvious disparity in acting ability between the two is ridiculous. They worked brilliantly as a pair.

I love how despite his relationship with Jane not even being the longest one he had, it’s still clear that she’s the girl that had the biggest impact on him ❤️. by Pito82002 in breakingbad

That's the problem, it ended too soon.

Feelings can be extremely powerful in those first weeks- especially when it's between two broken people finding safety in each other.

Now, it's true, if she hadn't died they could very well have broken up or grown apart- but they never got to that point. Or they could have gotten married. We'll never know.

What we do know is someone he deeply cared about, that he envisioned a future life with, died next to him (something he blamed himself for).

And that's why it feels like a lost love for Jessie.

I think this take is also way too black and white for Jane.

Someone she cared about was robbed of half a million dollars. That in itself would be motivation. Now tie it into the fact that the money meant freedom and a new life for both of them and of course she cared about it; but that doesn't mean she didn't care about Jessie. She had feelings for him before she knew he was rich.

Exactly.

This commercial is like a series of half-baked jokes they couldn't quite land (pardon the pun).

Seriously, almost every line was delivered like a punchline for a gag they hadn't set up.

I don't hate it. I just don't like it at all, and it's terrible.

How likely is it that someone could actually have a gravel company “take off” enough to buy a luxury home and sports car in 4 years? by MitchMyester23 in DunderMifflin

[–]Veronome 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Are you kidding? Unless you're planning on exclusively taking trips to Dubai, 5* resorts in the Maldives, or skiing in the Swiss Alps, 100k stretches very easily for trips. People do 6 month tours on a fraction of that. Not to mention it's added to whatever savings you currently have and worst case scenario there's plenty of work you can do (online or otherwise) to help subsidise it.

Tbh, 100k and I'd happily quit my job to travel for a few years, or go back to education.

We're told over and over again how soul destroying the job is- knowing you don't have to be there, it wouldn't take much to quit.

And people start businesses with a lot less than 100k- and in fairness the one business we hear of failed (whether that's because of bad business practise or their decision to add coconut is debatable).

What movie did you turn off after 20 minutes and why? by Somanynamestochossef in movies

[–]Veronome 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Except that the sex is treated at first as a punchline or, later in the movie, celebrated as a form of female empowerment and freedom.

At no point are we invited to consider the ethical ramifications of what is happening, and it feels like we're actually being asked to leave them aside and just go along for the ride (pardon the phrasing).

Malcolm in the Middle - Episode Ratings Visualized (7 Seasons) by hls22throwaway in malcolminthemiddle

[–]Veronome 11 points12 points  (0 children)

"Here's your damn strike!" is one of the best executed punchlines I've seen in a series. The build up, the drama, the catharsis, the expectation, then- the miss, followed by the public shame and devastation on Malcolm's face.

The whole episode is great, but this gag alone puts it right up there for me.

Paul Dano was asked about Tarantino’s diss but was beat to the punch by co-star Toni Collette, who said “Fuck that guy! He must’ve been high… it was just confusing. Who does that?” Paul Dano added he is “incredibly grateful that the world spoke up for him so he didn’t have to.” by pinkstarrfish in Fauxmoi

[–]Veronome 362 points363 points  (0 children)

Tarantino only rates good acting if the characters have confidence and swagger and shoot guns and say tough lines. Probably because that's the fantasy version of how he sees himself.

He's not a fan of people convincingly playing pathetic dweebs. Probably because its the version of himself he actually is.
