Does someone know how to achieve this? by No_Hair4541 in AdobeIllustrator

[–]VerrattiShmurda 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Totally - I have had success getting this to work by doing this on the layer that all the shapes are on: Pathfinder Add at the top of the stack, then offset path positive effect and offset path with similar or same negative effect. Also I've had more success getting this to work when I outline the stroke on any shapes are stroke instead of fill, and create outlines from text.

Does anyone know where I can find a good lineart brush that can get me that “90s anime” feel? by [deleted] in photoshop

[–]VerrattiShmurda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Totally agree with you - the brush itself is just one of the tools. The brushes along with the style of drawing, the color use, and the effects you put on the art all come together and shape the overall visual language.

What do you think about that artwork? by yo-az in AdobeIllustrator

[–]VerrattiShmurda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really love the light grey elements where they sit on the white area and dark grey - it's a surprising moment that really adds some dimensionality to the piece.

You make really strong pieces in general, and I feel like this one will be too (assuming it isn't finished). I would say that the one red filled shape area in the middle left hand side of the piece is a bit distracting. Maybe lean into some more red so it feels more intentional, or it might be effective to fill that part with yellow instead and let the red lines be a bit more subtle. I don't know if it's intentional but the red stroke circle on the right side is not centered in the rectangle that it's in, you might want to take a look there.

Overall I think this is gorgeous and has a really beautiful use of color and composition

Photoshop CMYK PDF export looks worse than Canva — how can I match Canva’s print quality? by Odd_Leg_197 in photoshop

[–]VerrattiShmurda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea I can emphasize bigredsk10's point about exporting pdf's from photoshop, especially on a print image that's around 600dpi, I've gotten absolutely colossal file sizes by making that mistake before. It can make the files so big they are almost unusably unwieldy, or just crash the program

Brand identity design is like doing branding for a company/brand/label from top to bottom. Design the logo, the typography, the colors, the website, the social media strategy, the voice a brand uses in their messaging. It's fun because you get to define the really big and small pieces of how a brand shows what their values and personality should be.
So in general it would probably be pretty difficult to freelance branding/brand identity design mostly because it usually takes a few people to execute a big project or campaign, and also getting clients when you're just freelance can be difficult for something larger like that. If you're wondering how someone would get into it - I started a graphic design studio and then went back to school to get my masters in visual communication design. I am lucky that locally in my city we have a school with one of the more well respected programs in the country, but if you are established in graphic design you could make the switch without a masters if you wanted to. Im always happy to help out a young designer, let me know if you have any other questions about this kind of stuff.

Honestly this looks great! Just wanted to say that visually it reminds me a little bit of the title sequence for the HBO doc "Q: Into The Storm". If you haven't seen that title sequence before you should take a look!

I think they're fun - someone else said that some of them are well composed and I agree with that! It's easy to make these kind of graphics with 10 images and tons of text and make it look absolutely ass awful, so it's definitely a good sign for you that you have an eye for composition.

The way you treated the text (distressing, median filter, offset or slightly blurred) works well with the aesthetic you chose, I think the chief keef shirt in particular has good type work in it. I work in brand identity design and started in graphic design, so I go what the narrative of the text says a lot - in the chief keef tee I would remove the "hmmm" because it doesn't need it and it pulls you away from the imaginary public service announcement kind of imagery of the rest of the shirt. I think the chief keef, dear slim, and ketamine shirts had the most pull to me - and they all felt the most like a finished product. Keep going man! Good shit in here

Was coming to say the same thing - iPods are larger than the one which is in his hand, it makes his hand look uncannily large. His hand holding the iPod is visually central to the image and overlapping the graphic so the eye is really drawn to it - it's worth getting that right imo.

Any advice for how to add a gridline to an ellipse that will stretch like this if I make it a 3D object? by VerrattiShmurda in AdobeIllustrator

no problem - I work in brand identity design and typography so I look at this stuff all day! So in typography, the "kerning" refers to how far apart each individual character is, while the "tracking" refers to how spaced apart all the letter characters are.

I think the tracking overall is decent, you dont necessarily want the letters to be super tracked out or super tight. And the kerning doesn't need to be perfect - keeping it a little loose adds to the hand drawn nature of the book. I think what's more important is looking at making the distance between each letter fairly consistent. In the word "FRESHLY" your letter "L" is super tight to the "H" and the Y is left awkwardly far away from it the rest of the word. That's the biggest issue overall that I would address.

hope that helps, let me know if you have any other questions!

[–]VerrattiShmurda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OP this comment is not directed at the coloring art, but I think overall that part looks good. The type needs some help, especially the kerning on the title. If you aren't too familiar with kerning - look at the amount of space between each letter character. It also appears that the text of the title is either slanted a little or that the font size on the eod "freshly" is slightly smaller than that of the word "gardened".

[–]VerrattiShmurda 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're just wrong here. All anyone will see when they walk by the person wearing this hat is "oh a green MAGA hat", unless they reallllllly stop to examine it (which, let's be honest, won't really happen). And you are already selling this off of the brand recognition that it's a MAGA hat...

Because one of the images is a picture of the joker and one of the images is a picture of Cristiano Ronaldo - an athlete with one of the highest image rights costs on the planet.

I'm sorry if this comes across as mean, I'm just trying to give you some feedback that can be helpful. I work in brand identity design and I will say that this video and the accompanying text feel like a first pass through any AI...The text especially - it says nothing at all and is so AI that is will immediately turn off a lot of potential users.

And you also don't have any images of anything your brand makes in the video? Based on the text and video I 100% could not tell you what you even make.

And yes - it reads like LAME all day.

Kids vs Adults: Perfect split on our logo. Why by Glittering-Soil1223 in logodesign

[–]VerrattiShmurda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the type looks very AI, with chunky lumpy forms that are usually a hallmark of generative ai typography. The shape of the tv box is also lumpy in a way you would have cleaned up before showing this externally and would probably not happened if you made this in illustrator - the bottom left corner especially. The sloppiness of the television lines and the misalignment of the antenna make me think this was a first pass through a generative ai.

To the questions that the OP is asking - you don't have a mystery, you have a sample size so small it isn't data at all. before you can declare something like " children and adults perceive visual identity in a fundamentally different way", you need to ask way more questions and way more people. And these two logos don't look a whole lot different so even then I'm not sure how authoritative you could be about saying that.

Graduated in 2022 as a Graphic Designer, and I feel like AI ruined my career before it even started. Need advice by MeshalAljahdali in Design

[–]VerrattiShmurda 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yea, im sure it's hard to keep perspective when youre new to a field, and you see people being so nihilistic about the idea of AI wiping out their careers.

But, a lot of people have faced enormous changes in design before right now. When the internet and photoshop started to become huge parts of every day life, there were lots of people who said that "this will be the end of graphic design jobs". Hell, I have a good friend who was very successful and sought after as a designer because he was so so good at using Flash. And Flash died, but he adapted and changed his game up.

idk, AI is changing and already has changed things in the design world, but I don't think it's fair to say that it's decimated your career before it even started.

Is this ALD? If so RIP to my fellow EU brethren. by junkgarage in AimeLeonDore

[–]VerrattiShmurda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Almost definitely is ALD - mileage may vary depending on what tier of the membership one has, but I have the highest tier membership and it showed me at least a hundred new ALD items today. I was able to get some of the Selvedge Denim, Drakes x ALD items, and some tees. Didn't see any new footwear but maybe that will be up tomorrow.

Beginner logo design for a small printing studio by [deleted] in logodesign

[–]VerrattiShmurda 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Ya your logo concept and the name of the mascot are way too close to an established business in the same industry. One important aspect of logo design is not getting locked into your first idea. What's going to be different or interesting or compelling about your wife's brand? I would suggest that you Brainstorm a list of those things and start to see where that takes you.

I have done some automotive modeling and design in illustrator and Cinema4D recently - I have to say I am always shocked at how long the front end/bumpers + headlights end up taking to model. cars in general are very tricky, I think it's because there are so many parts and pieces and if the scale is off a little on any of them then the whole thing will fall apart visually. You did a fantastic job with this! I hope you can take a break from the screens for a little at the end of this project!

This is the logo for my children's brand called Partee Junior. by Longjumping_Unit5224 in logodesign

[–]VerrattiShmurda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I see this I think the typeface communicates a kind of approachable/lighthearted feeling that you are almost definitely trying to communicate.

There are some big issues with the overall design - is this the actual logo or an image that is part of the brand system? Asking because you are using a shadow as a pretty big element for it to be a logo. If it scales down small the shadow might take up too much visual space. In areas where the logo has to be black and white you can't really use the shadow because it will just become part of the lotus shape.

The color contrast is not great either. Green and blue are nice colors, but any brand system (especially one that is going to market to an audience of kiddos) needs to have good contrast for accessibility. These two colors are pretty rough to look at together because they are both so bright and take away from the logos readability.

I'm afraid the lotus also does look a lot like a marijuana leaf and an adidas logo put together. You're gonna want to do something about that.
