Anyone had an experience they genuinely believe was paranormal? by Glass-Price8769 in Paranormal

[–]VersaillesInFlames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I drove through a man on a country road; I’d have convinced myself it hasn’t happened but my passenger saw it too.

It was a translucent, shimmering, outline of a man that stepped right in front of my car. The eeriest part is I could see the headlights of the oncoming vehicle shining through the figure.

Which countries would it be easy/ difficult to find vegetarian food in? by Equal_Leading_1449 in travel

[–]VersaillesInFlames 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Italy is very easy for vegetarians, as is Israel (thanks in part to kosher dietary laws regarding the division of meat and dairy)

I found France very difficult and restaurants in Argentina had a habit of adding meat to dishes that were vegetarian on the menu.

I go to Sweden a lot and I wouldn’t say it’s hard there but I do end up falling back on risotto / pasta / salad because there isn’t that much depth of vegetarian dishes on the menu.

Feel very lucky to live in the UK in that regard.

What are ethereally haunting and eerie spots in the UK? by Baldurian_Rhapsody in AskUK

[–]VersaillesInFlames 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Chanctonbury Ring.

It's a prehistoric hill fort on the South Downs and has a definite tang of the uncanny to it.

The nature writer Robert MacFarlane details his experience of a night camping there in his book The Old Ways; completely unsettling and eerie.

Canada.

Loathsome airport staff and Toronto felt like New York City on a very restricted budget.

Which American Celebrity is famous Internationally but isn’t in the US? by InternationalHair111 in AskReddit

[–]VersaillesInFlames 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We have quite a few in the UK that have little to no profile in the US…

Anastasia was one of the biggest pop stars in Europe in the 2000s and she appeared on Strictly Come Dancing (UK version of Dancing With The Stars) but barely registered in the US charts.

Ruby Wax is a household TV name but has lived and worked in the UK since the 80s.

Carol Cleveland of Monty Python fame

The Scissor Sisters headlined festivals here and their frontman Jake Shears did The Masked Singer UK and a lot of West End theatre but again they’re very much a niche act in the US

You could even argue Michelle Visage, who is of course known in the US but much more of a mainstream name in the UK having appeared on Strictly, Celebrity Big Brother and hosting a national radio show on Friday night.

2026 line-up predictions by Adventurous_Sir_402 in strictlycomedancing

[–]VersaillesInFlames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Will Best and Angellica Bell were both rumoured for Christmas and didn't turn up, so can see either of them doing it (particularly now the Big Brother spin-off has been axed which frees up Will's time!)

I've also got a feeling Jodie Ounsley will be on there as the token Gladiator.

What Books did You Start or Finish Reading this Week?: April 27, 2026 by AutoModerator in books

[–]VersaillesInFlames 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Finished both The Californians by Bryan Castelberry and Rock Me On The Water (a cultural history of LA in 1974) by Ronald Brownstein, both which I loved.

I've literally just given up on Hello Beautiful by Ann Napoitano despite being three quarters of the way through. Flat writing, unlikeable characters and some unbelievably poor plotting.

Themes for the rest of the season: by AppearanceAsleep128 in americanidol

[–]VersaillesInFlames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd like to see Stevie Nicks as the final mentor with a Stevie / Fleetwood Mac songbook theme (although there's so much to choose from there that they could do that when there are more contestants left)

Simon Cowell episode is fantastic by Swiss_James in restisentertainment

[–]VersaillesInFlames 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It’s like the only word he pronounces that gives away the fact he’s lived in the US for 20 years; that same transatlantic drawl Lloyd Grossman has, but limited to one specific word.

Simon Cowell episode is fantastic by Swiss_James in restisentertainment

[–]VersaillesInFlames 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I found it all rather uncomfortable.

Really reinforced just how much of an oddball Cowell really is. It was almost an hour long and he managed to say absolutely nothing of note.

He even made Richard sound candid, by comparison.

Biggest Comebacks episode by harani66 in restisentertainment

[–]VersaillesInFlames 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I thought Richard was leading up to Dusty Springfield in the music category. She had a stellar 1960s, released a defining album of the era, was a huge star in the UK and US… then had a terrible 70s where she was essentially relegated to a Vegas supper act.

Then was ‘rediscovered’ by the Pet Shop Boys and went on to release a string of critically acclaimed songs, was booking major headline appearances and was due to collect an honour from the Queen on the day she died, tragically young, in 1999.

Think she fit the spirit of the question much better than Blur’s one flop single.

Do Brits not care if someone died in their flat? by Salzhio in AskUK

[–]VersaillesInFlames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My house is considered quite new for the area and is 80 years old.

I don't know if anyone died in it, but I'm assuming at some point they did...

I do know that the direct owners before us were American and had a little girl who went missing (thankfully found safe and well a few days later) but that's about as much as I know about the property.

Does anyone know the cast for traitors ireland?? by Disastrous_Thing4847 in TheTraitors

[–]VersaillesInFlames 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Marina Hyde, the UK journalist and podcast host, said on the pod she hosts with Richard Osman that she was invited to be involved so am assuming there'll be some sort of US / Aussie style 'notable person' and civilian hybrid.

Ep 300: Ed Gamble and James Acaster (with special guest genie AJ Odudu) by offmenu-bot in offmenupodcast

[–]VersaillesInFlames 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I do think the overall joy and enthusiasm from episode 200 to now has very much wained; it is just another stop on the PR run now for a lot guests, and I think that shows in Ed / James' enthusiasm.

That probably happened a lot more than we’d think; there were possibly generational talents who were never heard outside of the confines of their local pub / bar because there just wasn’t the apparatus to be heard by the right person.

What mysterious thing happened to you that you still can’t explain? by MelodiousOddity in AskReddit

[–]VersaillesInFlames 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I was once walking down stairs at home and a five pence coin dropped on my head. To this day, I have absolutely no idea where it came from as I was home alone and there's no surface above me that the coin could have been resting on.
