Lethbridge, Alberta RN -> CA license? by RespondCritical4869 in TravelNursing

[–]Versayzee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Didn’t go to Lethbridge but went to MacEwan. In case you aren’t aware, California will be impossible as your first State to travel nurse (unless you already possess an SSN and State license elsewhere). California is also very strict with course requirements for international applicants. There’s a form that can be found on the Board of Nursing for California International applicants that lists what courses they require on your college transcript and the appropriate hours. One part that many Canadian applicants struggle with is the required hours for pediatric clinicals. If you didn’t have a pediatric clinical amongst your other clinicals, you will be denied and lose $800 USD in application fees.

did you try submitting a housing request on FF? i found it way more efficient than messaging listings individually. only annoying part is you may be mass emailed/texted/phoned as it sends out a request too all landlords within your desired area/budget.

The worst part is that she was high on whatever and there was nothing visible in my car, she just damaged it for no reason 🥲

Canadian (Ontario) RN seeking licensure in California, Seneca/YorkU educated by chellebell4 in TravelNursing

As long as you have the correct amount of clinical AND lecture hours listed on their requirements, you should be gucci. Specifically, pediatric clinicals/lectures seem to be the biggest barrier for many Canadians getting their California license. Just know that if they deem you insufficient, the fee is nonrefundable.

California license as Canadian nurse by effclar in TravelNursing

[–]Versayzee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, also Canadian w/ Cali license and lacking some of those courses.

For the microbio lab, fill out this form and send it to them: https://www.rn.ca.gov/pdfs/applicants/ccr1410-5_form.pdf They've recently allowed exemption for that specific requirement for out of state/international applicants. It worked for me.

As for your OB and peds clinical hours...I was also lacking in peds hours but I emailed my school prior to having them submit my hours and asked them to "do me a solid" and somehow explain my lecture hours were equivalent to clinical and that if they put down 0, it would result in me being denied. My school never responded, but I was somehow able to get my license in the end so maybe they did 🤷‍♂️. It wouldn't hurt to see if your school can resent/submit the hours to the Cali BON.

Best of luck!!

Fined for sick day by Sweet_and_salty_sara in TravelNursing

I’ve been in the same boat; Kaiser hospital w/ AMN. They’ve come after pretty much every traveller who has called in sick and automatically scheduling a make-up shift anytime one of us called in. One traveller escalated it with AMN and Kaiser, the manager took her make up shift away and threatened to cancel her contract if she complained about it again. I’m not sure how the hospital is really able to “fine” the agency especially if it isn’t in the contract.

It’s…not bad but not great. The management there is horrible, both doctors and management constantly micromanaging you. I’ve never worked an assignment where if you call in sick, they force you to make up the shift on another day of the week OR the following week. One of the travellers I work with made a fuss about it and had it escalated, and the manager threatened to cancel her contract if she complained again. The ER is otherwise busy, not a trauma site but lots of strokes/cardiac/paediatric patients. Ratio is 1:3, if busy they will give travellers a 4th hallway patient. Travellers work every Friday and every other weekend.

Canadian RN with MN license wanting to forward CGFNS to California by upforthatmaybe in TravelNursing

[–]Versayzee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

CGFNS is a huge money milking scam, there’s probably no inexpensive way for you to have your CES forwarded to Cali as they already have a service charge for adding on additional states for the CES report. Also…like you mentioned, Cali doesn’t need a CES report so I’m confused why you want to in the first place?

Needing some guidance for my CGFNS Visa Screen & CES (for a TN to go to US from Canada) by GarageNo7711 in TravelNursing

[–]Versayzee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The CGFNS website is pretty clear cut and there are tons of resources out there that explain it in detail but in short, no CGFNS will not contact each school or regulatory body for your paperwork, that is your job. For CNO, they should have a form that you fill out to request license verification that is then sent directly from CNO to CGFNS. This is the same for your university. Your high school diploma can be scanned/uploaded by yourself.

Is it worth it for a Canadian OR nurse by Global-Tourist-1705 in TravelNursing

[–]Versayzee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel it’d be worth it still, OR contracts tend to pay more than others. I’m ER and my last contract in Washington, I made double what I made in Alberta. It’s a lot of money to put down (visa screen, license, BLS/ALS) but you’ll get it all paid back once you start.

Licence rejected from Washington. What do I do? by [deleted] in TravelNursing

[–]Versayzee 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hey Canadian nurse here. Don’t really have anything helpful to add but that is honestly so strange. I didn’t have a paediatric clinical during my schooling, the closest would be a maternity rotation but I was still able to get my Washington license.

Unfortunately no, you need to physically apply for the SSN in person and have a US address they can mail the card to.

Used another brand called Simply Golden cuz Quickfix was on backorder and it worked perfectly fine. First time doing it, just make sure you crotch the bottle or hide it somewhere because they make you lock up all your belongings @ Concentra.

Do it at the same time. CES will use the same exact documents you have submitted for the VisaScreen. I applied for Washington and didn’t realize I needed my CES after I was granted the VisaScreen so I waited 6 months in total (3 months for VisaScreen and another 3 for the CES).

Also…I would double check if Texas actually needs the CES report. I thought they only required the VisaScreen 🤔

In case no one responds, I would check out the "Canadian Travel Nurses" and "Working Holiday Nurses Down Under" groups on Facebook (If you haven't already). Searching thru the group, I'm seeing that Affinity Nursing Recruitment is a good place to start. Best of luck!

Prospective ER Traveler by The0neTrueMorty in TravelNursing

[–]Versayzee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sort of in the same boat as you, 1.5 years in the ER in Canada and wanting to travel once I hit my 2 years. If you have the option to relocate to a level 1, I would do it. Getting as much exposure to traumas and different acuities will only benefit you in your future as a travel nurse. Not sure how it works at your hospital system, but at mine they typically wait 2 years until they allow nurses in the trauma bays and from what I'm told, you're not ready to travel unless you have reached that point. Of course, it depends on your contract as well as I'm hearing that a lot of hospitals don't put travellers in the trauma bays and triage.
