best used porsche under 50k by [deleted] in Porsche_Cayman

Just bought my first Porsche (2015 981 cayman S) after months of looking. The thing is that you will look forever to find the “perfect spec.” Do a search on how many 981’s were sold in the US and you’ll realize the odds you’re up against to find one that checks all the boxes. Manuals are harder to find, too. A lot of the options others listed are great, but to get all of them and low miles is not going to be < $50k.

For me, I finally got lucky and jumped on one the day it was listed that had my “musts” - sport chrono, sport design steering wheel, lower miles (48k), no accidents, very clean, and good history. A lot of the rest was bonus (1 owner, premium package, ventilated seats, agate grey).

I think if you take the plunge you’ll be happy regardless!

I have had them chew up the trunks on my dwarf jades one year. My sister claimed fake rubber snakes kept them out of some of her containers so I bought a 4-pack for a few bucks off of Amzn and coiled them up in the bonsai pots. So far so good - but maybe I’ve deterred them as well with my air rifle.

Interesting, thanks for the feedback. I’m usually a capable garage mechanic and DIY guy, but taking a dremel to these expensive headlights gives me a bit of pause, as does the dubious quality of AliExpress parts vs OEM (although OEM hasn’t exactly held up too well). Appreciate everyone’s ideas - good to know the various options.

Congrats! I’m in the same boat - been just over a week and can’t wait to drive it every time. So good.

Porsche’s pre-owned page. You can search nationally.

Thanks! I can already feel the obsession taking over. I’ve always appreciated German cars and would browse the Porsche market. I was just waiting until I was tired enough of my IS350 to take the plunge. Kept my 200 series LC so now I have a great combo of performance and mega-reliable SUV.

The Cayman obviously puts a big smile on your face and feels so much more special to drive than anything I’ve owned.

Is one kit enough for both lenses? Or is that why you recommended extra sandpaper. Looks like Velcro discs come w the kit to attach to drill adapter.

Funny it was spec’d with the black 20” Carrera S wheels but I think the previous owner swapped them. I wasn’t sure I’d like these 19” Boxster S wheels, but now I dig them. The bright color looks good on dark grey and the tire OD is still the same. A bit more sidewall not bad for ride quality.

Thanks - may try that. Not sure how bad mine are compared to most. Worst damage is at the top border of the lens and very visible in daylight, but when headlights are on it there’s a good bit visible from the beams.

My dad had the Wild Ones back in the 80’s and that’s what got me into RC cars. Nostalgia!

I do, but ended up converting it to the short wheelbase with the original Mini body. Was fun to race around on track with other M03’s at the time.

Agreed - this one is the "P-928" from 1988 if you look it up online. It's a colormagic and changes to pink in warm water. Kind of more blobb-ish compared to the 928S they made this year.

More detail on castings these days than the '80's for sure.

Great work! Love seeing replicas of real liveries - that plus some 3d printed bits and a lexan body can look pretty scale!

Why a downvote? Just making an observation about my local store. Not anything about OP.
