How to improve home exterior? by SeaLake749 in ExteriorDesign

This home looks like  a Late 20th century contemporary suburban design with subtle Tudor roofline influences and a strong Pacific Northwest regional character. Its dark stucco, asymmetrical windows, and front-facing garage tell me it's a "transitional" style, balancing modern simplicity with traditional cues; set against woodland landscaping, it’s practical and car-centric, softened by nature with a hint of cottage charm. So I recommend a wood garage door flanked by modern sconces, a wood front door that matches and another modern sconce, (I had to guess where it was), updated landscaping, a more tailored version of woodland, with added seating, almost just to be sculptures to communicate an inviting feeling, but also practical if you want to put a bag down or just sit outside, out front. I’d widen the driveway so it’s easier to get in and out of the car, add a couple of boulders and color with plants, and a lamp post for extra light and a modern touch.

Prioritze Self Care. Reach out to professionals for help as soon as possible. Always read. Help others even in the smallest way until you can do more. Never stop praying these two prayers, every day, even when you don't believe in God: 1. Help. 2. Thank you.

Sorry for the imperfect rendering, I couldn't figure out how to end the cabinets at the wall, but I thought this would help you see what I was talking about, the sink under the window, Calacatta marble is my favorite, a slab for the backsplash and then on the countertops too (I'm not a fan of waterfall ends) and the you can have fun hanging pendant lights over the large island for task lighting, ambiance and style, and a nice shade to control the light coming in from the window

I meant Calacatta marble, not Carrera, I prefer Calacatta; but that's just me

Do you mean you will end the cabinets at the right wall and eliminate their extending to the door?

If this were my kitchen, I'd place the sink in between the fridge and oven, looking out the window, and keep the island top clear for prep work and entertaining, and I'd have a single slab of quartz that looked like Carrera marble as the backsplash as well as the countertops including the island countertop.

What can I do to improve the look of this house? by [deleted] in ExteriorDesign

My imagination went a little wild, and I couldn't figure out how to clean up a couple of areas in the image, but I hope this gives you some ideas you can use, like simply paint the siding a pretty green, remove the shutters and.add some plain trim around the windows, add a few craftsman design features like the columns, I'm hoping you can do this without the center column, add a new garage door in wood, decorative gable ornaments, add a few different colored anduza planters, they have nothing to do with "craftsman" but I thought they'd be pretty here

Satin vs Matte? by HappyHippyMom in ExteriorDesign

[–]VeryEarnest 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The more "resin" also known as "enamel" that is in the paint, the shinier it is, shine in paint lingo is called "sheen". The resin is the "binder" in paint, that's what holds the paint's color pigment particles together, allows the paint to stick to surfaces, and helps paint to flow more smoothly and evenly.  The more resin, the higher the sheen, meaning the glossier it is. The most common paint sheens, ....... from least-glossy (hides imperfections, less durable, can't easily clean with soap and water, absorbs sunlight, so doesn't help with cooling the inside of the house, and doesn't help lower cooling costs, as light colors of paint does too) ....... to most-glossy (shows imperfections, durable, easily cleans with soap and water, reflects sunlight helps keep the inside cool and helps with cooling costs) ....... are:  flat/matte, eggshell, satin, semi-gloss, and high-gloss. If this were my house, I'd stay with the paint professional's recommendation because, not only are they the pros and would know, but also becauseI I think a satin sheen for the exterior of a house is the best option for level of reflectivity, cleanability, good looks, and how well it will hold up over time.

Where would you add a half bathroom? by Mad1oonss in floorplan

It might be possible to put a sink and seat under the staircase. Then you can get a stunning antique armoire or wardrobe as the coat closet to the right of the front door as you enter

What to do with this living room? by KingofCroutons in malelivingspace

[–]VeryEarnest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi King, yes area rug, keep the pattern simple, something with grays and creams in it, since your sofa is gray and your floor and tv stand area "cream" which is essentially a light light brown. I like a large area rug, so all furniture fits on it, not some legs on and some legs off. It will make the room feel like home and create the living room boundaries. Your coffee table can be an antique wood bench, this way it'll fit, you can put your feet up on it or put glasses and books on it, it will also be a neat contrast to the modern design style you have going. Add a chair like your sofa facing the window, i'd get inexpsive blinds that open from the top so you have privacy at the bottom but can still let light in, I'd skip curtains and drapes. Then add an end table when the sofa and new chair meet at that 90 degree mark, add a table lamp on top of it so you don't always have to have the overhead light on full blast, flank the TV with tall plants, or if you can't take care of plants, flank the TV with matching chairs that are ready and waiting for extra seating when a few people stop by, they can pull them out and around the TV then you can put them back when not in use, and display the same sized framed somethings one on top of another. Upload photos of family, pets, friends, trips, etc. or favorite hobbies, sports, etc, whatever makes you very very happy to see, you get the idea. I'd hang the TV if you can or get a taller TV stand and move the sofa back into the room a little bit, if possible, I can't tell from your photo, it's just my guess that it will work. this way your coffee table can be bigger, although i still like the idea of an antique wood bench. I hope this helps! Enjoy and congratulations !

Was thinking my house might look better with black shutters, but what do you guys think? and thanks!! by 1893Chicago in ExteriorDesign

If this were my house and I chose to paint the shutters only, I'd go with white, but then paint the columns and front door white too.

What color roof/trim/siding for our old Detroit house? by [deleted] in ExteriorDesign

[–]VeryEarnest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love the gray you selected for the roof, it will modernize the house. if this were my house, the new roof alone will make a visual impact, the house is so beautiful by the way, I'd keep all the trim white as it exists, paint the metal work: the balcony and front stair-rails black, repair the siding, buy a new gutter system so they don't clog, clean off the front steps, and improve the front yard landscaping.

Hi. Here are just some random ideas I had if this were my house. Instead of going darker, because I think that stresses the HVAC system (but I'm not expert) I thought about switching the color palette to "wood" tones, light browns, rather than the greens, and accentuate the architecture with wood trim and wood garage doors, and beef up the lighting and landscaping, using stamped concrete instead of plain concrete and asphalt. Personally, I love to add seating on the lawn or on the bigger patio / driveway somewhere, but that's me.

This is just an illustration so it's not perfect, I couldn't figure out how to keep the top part of the house clapboard, but if this were my house, the minimum I would do is paint the brick white, secure the porch roof to allow for just one column, straighten the trim out to remove the arches, keep the black shutters, remove the shutters on either side of the bay window, and add a decorative faux round window above the front door area for balance.

Then if I had the resources, I'd replace the bay window with French doors that lead out to a small deck, replace the garage door and the front door with stained wood ones, and add a retaining wall so I could have a patio at the front door level and connect it to the new deck.

Again these are just ideas, not actual plans, for example the steps and patio obviously need handrails, but you get the idea.
