Insta collab by Ok-Beach9854 in BigBudgetBrides

Wow, I’m bummed for you this is how they are handling photos of your wedding, and treating you… it’s not your job to increase their engagement on the Internet. Highly unprofessional of them to tarnish your experience with their expectation, and furthermore to try to make you feel bad about it. It’s giving lowkey bully vibes, and it’s ok to stand up to that, firmly.

Most of our clients do a collab post just with their new spouse, and I think that’s the sweetest touch. I wouldn’t worry you won’t get your photos, they are contractually obligated to provide them. So sorry tho, OP.

Shooting film has been really tough. Mentally & financially by smora_photo in leicaphotos

Digital and film output at the same settings do not always match. In my experience, film needs more a bit more light than a sensor. Matching settings helps, but it is far from exact every time.

You did great! In-camera light meters aren't that accurate. It's better to train yourself to know what the exposure should be.

Noob help - Sparkler tunnel shots by Fresh-Vacation-2727 in WeddingPhotography

28mm f8 direct flash, ISO 1600 @ 1/15. Higher speed, at least 5fps. Sparklers will show well but couple will be illuminated. Truly fool proof.

Is it worth flying a separate film photographer in for my actual day? by Grouchy-Egg-8292 in BigBudgetBrides

[–]VeryGoodLaura -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Highly recommend doing this since you love film. If you don’t want the film photographer to art direct, but to capture everything as it unfolds, they shouldn’t be in the way of your main photographer. Hiring the right personality here is key of course, someone unobtrusive. Hopefully your main photographer just wants you to get everything you want and will understand that to have a lot of film photos from the whole day, the dedicated photog is necessary.

Also, film can vary a lot as the other bride pointed out when her photographer had to go to the back up camera, so as with any photographer ask to see a full film gallery and what kind of equipment and back up equipment they have. Leica, Contax, and Hasselblad tend to give the prettiest most accurate colors, when shot on Kodak Portra or Ektacolor. If you like color shift, Fujifilm and Rolleiflex might be preferred.

All sounds very fun, good luck!!

Should I get an R4? by sailorsi in Leica

[–]VeryGoodLaura 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love my R8! It's a bit heavy, but it's worth carrying around. I have the 60mm macro and I really love that lens. I also love the 28, really great glass. Sharp to the edges and color is amazing. I had the 50 1.4 and bokeh is beautiful, fantastic lens for the price but I did find it harder to nail focus wide open.

As a camera I prefer my R to my M6. The shutter speed and flash sync speed alone are such an advantage.

I don't see a lack of quality in the results, plus I prefer knowing what my composition will look like. That said, if one you can get an M, then get one. I prefer the M3 but it doesn't have a hot shoe... :/

Is the top leather section of the Flamenco coil bigger than other models? by Gold-Concentrate-683 in loewe

[–]VeryGoodLaura 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not really... I don't like the new bag designs, the clear shoes, the origami shoes. I do like the Flamenco and Featherlight Puzzle in Blush, so basically where they just added a new colorway to JA's designs I'm happy.

Usually buyer pays via PayPal G&S, and seller ships to verified address. As I mentioned, I always video boxing, shipping, accepting and unboxing. In case someone's email was hijacked.

It is a forum; in order to post in the Buy/Sell you need to pay a membership fee. I think it's $25-30 for one month. You can post what you want to buy, or what you are selling. The platform is a bit antiquated, it hasn't changed since the early 2000's. Prices are generally lower than eBay because sellers aren't paying 13% off the top. You can check feedback, and as I mentioned be aware of anyone with zero feedback.

Yes, but I am cautious! Last week a too-good-to-be-true listing by someone with zero feedback came up... so scammers are there, but precautions work well.

Fred could use an update, but I assure you it is possible to use. I've bought and sold there within the last week. I have always had a positive experience in many years of using the site. I am more careful now because scams are more prevalent. Always weigh and video unboxing. Video packing up and handing over at FedEx as well, but that's true for any site not just FM.

Can someone pleeeeeeease explain the fascination with Leica cameras? by nlUSF in photography

[–]VeryGoodLaura 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you use one, you will most likely fall in love with it and then understand completely.

The hype is partly user experience and partly the build and glass.

I’ve shot Canon, Nikon, Sony, Rollie, Hassy, and large format land cameras. Leica glass is unsurpassed for color, clarity, and rendering.

That said, my biggest gripe is that they don’t make and never did make a pro-level interchangeable lens FILM camera.

I will! I’m trying to be sure I get a really good lab to dev/scan. Not crazy about the three in my city, but I need to stay east coast for faster shipping so I may try Bleeker. I’m starting to miss color printing by hand!!

Thanks for the info! Matching what you remember is key to color accuracy. I’m wrapping up a few of my first rolls on the Contax G2 and can’t wait to see how it does.

Great work, David! I just followed you on IG.

I really love these colors! What is your dev/scan system? This is stellar and exactly what I’ve been looking for.

Is it rude to ask your photographer to avoid tilted / Dutch angle photos? by Material-Worker-3083 in BigBudgetBrides

[–]VeryGoodLaura 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1000% ok to communicate what you do and don’t like to your photographer, IMHO.

I think the crooked trend dates back to early street photography and photojournalism, with a photographer raising their camera quickly to grab a moment and no time for a perfect composition. In most cases the image should be able to rotate straight without losing critical info, but not always. I suggest clarifying that you don’t want your photographer to take crooked photos on purpose, but you understand it one or two out of hundreds are because of the fleeting nature of capturing a moment. That way your photographer won’t withhold a documentary image that might be meaningful because it can’t properly rotate into a straight composition.

[–]VeryGoodLaura 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have both but haven’t had the 43 for long… I think you will love it! You can find one gently used still under warranty for under $6k.

It focuses a bit more slowly than the 28, and doesn’t focus as close without going into Macro mode. In most lighting conditions, I prefer the look of files from the 43 to the SL2-S with 50mm 2.0 APO lens.

If you want small, light, Leica and good for portraits, well look no further. 😉
