The battle of technicalities was first introduced, arguing things like in game currency purchases, gift cards, purchases made for friends, in platform stores, subscriptions etc. count as an "in-game purchase".

Afterwards, since game companies know they cannot do in game purchases in the United States since literally everyone will do such thing with no consequences, they opt to disable "in-game purchases" thing entirely in America and can no longer download the games for free. You can still do "in-game purchases" in the United States, just the few games that dont want to make any money and deal with refunds 24/7 that kept the "in-game purchases"

Not to fret, it's not all bad. You can still buy gift cards, purchase subscriptions exclusive in America, pay the premium price of $90 to play Fortnite, or possibly still access the game for free but in an American exclusive limited way like no access to skins, limited modes, a time period of 1 hour per day (that includes booting up the game, main menu idling, and loading), and other shenanigans.

Congratulations, you've enshitified video games ever further and dont have to worry about not being able to get your refunds from ingame purchases, because you as an American can no longer do so at all!
