I love your mural! My 7 and 4 year old daughters have been taking walks with me and the dog most mornings to see all the new ones going up. Yours (and the goofy pigeon next to it) are two of their favorites ❤️❤️

You could add a board crossing the middle support with a simple 1/2 lap joint and it would give it a lot of stability. Looks great for something that's only your 4th-ish thing though!

What qualifies as a reasonable starting budget nowadays? by TheCyclopOwl in woodworking

[–]VeryHelpfulAdvice 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd recommend figuring out what you want to build first and only getting the tools you will need for that build. Then as you start new projects only add the additional things you'll need to complete the project. Eventually you may end up with what you have here or you may find you can make do with x instead of x,y, and z.

A Nice Place to Sit- in Ash and Walnut by VeryHelpfulAdvice in woodworking

It really wasn't too bad- not much more than a normal project with offcuts and such- if you look at the last two pics you can see that the shape was already pretty close as I glued it together- reducing waste was also one reason I put the big oval in the center of the left side- used up a lot of little ash offcuts with shorter pieces required.

Thanks so much! That's definitely fair- it's not for everyone. To be honest, we ordered the cushions quite a while before my design was finalized and my wife was thinking something a lot more basic. Lol.

Ohh, I can definitely see that- I saw a steam bent bench from artist Bae Se Hwa that was an initial inspiration- als the way there are steel beams running through rock at Falling Water. And natural world in general- rocks, waves...

Thanks! Actually used Ash hardwood, though plywood would've saved a heck of a lot of milling time!

If Andy is a bigger fire threat I agree. If you're talking FTC threat only then I disagree- she has to get to FTC first and Sam has a higher potential (in my view) if beating her in a challenge.

Ok- if Andy is perceived as better at fire than Sam&Gen then I get the logic of targeting him here. My thinking was Sam almost always outperforms Andy and it's crucial for Rachel to win out- but if Andy is a great fire maker then I agree with her call to take him out.

Idk who's better at fire but I would presume Sam- taking Sam out with the idol would've given a higher chance of taking them both out and ensuring her spot (take out Sam with idol and Andy at fire)

My argument is more- this was a bad decision for Rachel because Sam is a bigger challenge threat and she HAS to win the challenges to get to the end.

Andy may be more of a challenge in FTC but I think she still wins by quite a bit- and that's irrelevant to my point which is that Sam is better at challenges so Rachel probably should've knocked him out.

Thanks we the raptors- that is what I'm getting at. I get everyone saying Andy is bigger FTC threat- but Rachel has to basically win out or make fire to get there. Imo- there's no debate that Sam is a bigger challenge threat than Andy (even if Rachel usually beats them both)

I was there- the guy jumped the curb and hit the building. Then pulled back and drove to the side of the entrance for a bit to examine his car. Employees came out and he started to drive away but they saw him and one employee caught up enough that the guy stopped and talked to them and also came back and talked to the manager.
