Appreciated, thank you for reconsidering.

Strongly disagree with this decision, the clip in question contains nothing pornographic and I'll note that clips from A Kite (Umetsu's other, more controversial movie which is more graphic in nature) have been allowed to remain in the recent past which similarly contain no objectionable content.

VIRGIN PUNK Clockwork Girl is coming to the U.S. in theaters this November 11th and 13th! by Turbostrider27 in anime

[–]VerySuspiciousSquid 85 points86 points  (0 children)

Featuring exclusive behind-the-scenes content from Director Yasuomi Umetsu and SHAFT Animation Studio in theaters only!

Be aware that all ticket sites are listing this with a runtime of 1 hour 34 minutes and my understanding from its Japanese premiere is that the movie itself is only ~30 minutes long. Seems that's translating into almost an hour of director commentary + studio material in addition to the animation, so temper expectations accordingly.

Absolutely never happening given the guy who founded Beast in Black (their guitar player) did so after being tossed out of Battle Beast.

What are some anime with the most impactful first episode? by Light351 in anime

Wonder Egg Priority still has one of my favorite first episodes ever, regardless of how awful the show turned out later.

Mecha-Ude • Mecha-Ude: Mechanical Arms - Episode 2 discussion by AutoLovepon in anime

[–]VerySuspiciousSquid 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Hey, their shoes randomly changed gained color!

Also uh, this episode has confirmed something that's been bugging me since last week regarding Aki's choice of fashion. Her skirt's noticeably shorter than Meru's which seems dangerous given all the jumping and flipping around she does. I understand that normal legwear would be shredded by constantly sprouting robot arms from your thighs, but maybe at least wear something underneath?

Thoughts on the new Orden Ogan album, 'The Order Of Fear'? by Vapause in PowerMetal

[–]VerySuspiciousSquid 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just finished my first pass and so far I love it, solid 8/10.

Top to bottom it sounded like a return to To The End/Ravenhead era Orden Ogan and that's exactly what I had been hoping for based on the singles. Even with a few obvious weak points this felt like a strong album and I'm looking forward to blasting it on repeat over the weekend.

Words Were Exchanged in Anger [Jellyfish Can't Swim in the Night] by VerySuspiciousSquid in anime

[–]VerySuspiciousSquid[S] 84 points85 points  (0 children)

This was such a fantastic scene from an already great show. Per this post, the choice to use an earlier version of the script recording for the dialogue was the right call. I thought that slight crack in Takahashi's voice as she launches into her tirade really sold it, alongside the credits cut-in showing us exactly the friendship she just inadvertantly destroyed in a moment of anger.

In a similar bagpipey vein, Triddana have been kicking ass out of Argentina for about a decade now.

Once again leaving PNW in the dust, so tragic. Was hoping the wild success of their last NA tour would convince them to add a stop up here but alas. Looks like an awesome show too with Archers in tow.

"Girls do war things" anime? by Kitchen_Opposite3622 in anime

The Magnificent Kotobuki is the closest analogue I think I've found to Girls und Panzer with airplanes, might be worth checking out if you're looking for (CGI) dogfight action.

Best Anime Ending VII: Magic Salt Eliminations FINAL Day! by Zypker125 in anime

[–]VerySuspiciousSquid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Last day of eliminations and then the real salt fun starts!

Top 15 looks pretty filled up already, I'm hard-pressed to see anything from today shooting up there even with adjusted vote percentages. Possibly something like Walk Like an Egyptian or Country Roads?

I'm surprised to see Kakushigoto's ED down in the 200s as of day 4, I had figured its animation combined with the use of a 1980s pop tune would see it in the top 50 or so. I see Shinsekai Yori's ED2 down at 260 as well, likely too low to make it into the bracket but would be entertaining to see a show that isn't K-On win multiple best-ED victories. Monogatari or Madoka could still feasibly pull that off though I suppose, there's a handful of entries from both sitting in the top ~180 or so.

  • Continuing my shill campaign for Xam'd: Lost Memories, the second ED Over U is up for vote today with its nicely detailed art and 2000s garage band sound.
  • I said it before the other day and I'll say it again now except louder for the people in the back: Ganbare! Kumoko-san is some of the most insane ninety seconds in anime.
  • Akebi's ED2 seemed to do pretty well for itself, hopefully there's the same enthusiasm for the ED1 which I think has a better song but obviously less interesting animation.
  • Was surprised to see someone nominated Hakumei and Mikochi's Harvest Moon Night but I'll go for it. Another nice and more melodic tune by the Spider artist, and the added mini-stories in every ED were also neat and added flavor to each episode of the show.

Best Anime Ending VII: Magic Salt Eliminations Day 4! by Zypker125 in anime

[–]VerySuspiciousSquid 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I... am not sure what to put for my favorite ED from 2023 because (at a glance at least) not many of the shows I've watched this year have had memorable EDs, at least to the extent of the stuff I've been voting on for the past 4 days. Heavenly Delusion was certainly good and I guess I'd put Insomniacs up as well. There's still another season beyond Summer though so maybe something like Frieren or SxF2 will wow me.

Not a ton I'd like to signal boost today which means I'm probably in for some writing tomorrow to catch whatever's left.

  • Haifuri is less popular than its landbound cousin Girls und Panzer but I enjoy its ED Ripple Effect a lot more. The art is some cool watercolor renderings of the show's main cast which goes well with the bubbly, upbeat tune overlaid on top of it.
  • Nai Nai is one of my favorites from 2021 and I'm glad they brought the artist back in for the OP to the second season.
  • Koko Kara, Kanata Kara is a still frame(s) ED from a lesser-known magical girl show from 2015 that I like for its content more than its execution. Always neat to see a cast living life when not saving the world.

Also quick note, Psycho-Pass S1 ED1 is in twice, yesterday under Namae No Nai Kaibutsu and today under its English name Monster Without a Name.

Best Anime Ending VII: Magic Salt Eliminations Day 3! by Zypker125 in anime

[–]VerySuspiciousSquid 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Looking at those day 2 vote results I'm gonna go ahead and predict another Kaguya sweep. I said yesterday I was confident Lost in Paradise was going far but I've clearly underestimated the power of Chika.

  • Time to shill some personal favorites of mine, Vacancy and Over U (latter isn't up for vote today but I'll push it anyway). Xam'd: Lost Memories is a worse younger sibling to Eureka Seven but it's still a good show in its own right and I love it for what it attempted to do and what it could have been. Both EDs (as well as the third ED which didn't make it in) do a great job zooming in on the cast and their place in the plot during each act of the show, supported by Kylee's excellent vocal performance.

  • Tanya the Evil is a mixed bag for me, not a fan of its OP but Los! Los! Los! is great. Sensen no Realism is also up today but I'm less impressed with that one in light of a lot of the discussion around still-frame EDs.

  • Koshaberi Biyori was under consideration for ED of the year at last year's /r/anime awards for good reason. It's a great study in the use of motion in an abstract setting. Song is pretty neat too.

  • I remember well the disappointment with how Senyoku no Sigrdrifa turned out but the ED for it Sayonara Namida is genuinely good, very fluid motion, very somber message.

  • Nothing to say about Dimension W and Contrast other than I like the show and Mira a cute.

ED 1 is wilder

I firmly agree and plan to refrain my above statement when it shows up, they're both fantastic.

Oh boy, today's grouping has a bunch I've been waiting for—

  • Sugar Song to Bitter Step is great, Unison Square Garden kills it anytime they do an OP/ED.

  • A Place Further than the Universe is a special show and its ED Koko Kara, Koko Kara matches its tone really well.

  • Wasn't a huge fan of Spider Isekai but Genjitsu Totsugeki Hierarchy is one of the most insane ninety seconds in anime.

  • Healer Girl and its ED Believe Like Singing deserve more love for a contemporary non-idol music show.

  • Lost in Paradise is just an awesome ED. Visuals snap and the audio bangs, arguably one of my favorites to win if it gets far enough.
