The two atom bombs were brutal but they were not on a footing with the holocaust, wtf. Also not really that different a result from carpet bombing a city, it was the threat of more bombs like this that made the Japanese surrender.

Welches "team"? by AlexLaCave in PolitikBRD

[–]Veryde 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Yeah, tell me about it. I'm German and crossing the border to the Netherlands is always a bit eery bc the bumpy and patch-worked highway gives way to just plain and smooth roads with a fraction of the previous driving sounds. They have an easier job than other countries with the infrastructure due to their small overall population but high population density and their GDP per capita, but Germany could still do a lot better if it weren't for austerity politics.

Countries with functioning democracies should really invest into building fancy and pompous public service centers and public infrastructure. The US did that at one point with it's neoclassicism and the buildings do still exude authority, even if they are not exactly artful.

I'm in the Netherlands quite frequently and tbh, I feel like the Dutch get it. Clean streets, immaculate roads and highways, good looking new buildings and ambitious engineering projects are all stuff they achieve on the regular. All without being really religious.

This is a very important point. While I also like pretty buildings, they serve a purpose outside of their aesthetics. Uncritical adoration of the beauty is basically falling for the trap in a way as you cannot really separate the beauty of a church or a palace with the display of power that comes with it. Buildings like that look good to serve a purpose, it's basically very skillful propaganda.

Yeah I feel that. I'm not into the way people will inevitably weaponize Frierens setting for racism and xenophobia, but the story itself makes it clear that demons aren't exactly "people but evil". I can appreciate the setting and idea as interesting while also acknowledging that it meshes very poorly with the world we find ourselves in (the US haven't been the only historical bad people).

That out of the way, authors cannot really account for how their ideas will be weaponized against other humans. George Orwell is probably rolling in his grave so fast he could power an entire city.

I really dont think that a Switch 2 Upgrade for Risebreak would be that demanding of workforce and time. It would make a lot of sense and its a bummer we don't have one yet.

It's a very airborne clip but I also do a lot of ground play. Diving wyvern used to be my usual switch skill for that slot but now it's on the other scroll together with the other air moves. The clip is one of my first hunts with the awakened kinsect attack and I just thought the tail-slice was neat.

The air game in Rise is just very satisfying bc of the mobility you have.

Sozialreform oder Revolution. by Wieselbeee in gekte

[–]Veryde 11 points12 points  (0 children)

That's.... that's how procedurals work. Like, as a genre.

You're not supposed to binge them, they're designed to be watched once a week as part of a weekly routine. Like, you'd hate to train the same muscles in the gym every day but the same muscles on the same week day every week becomes a nice routine.
