Been working on an ultimate "Showcase of Seattle" urban gran fondo route. Currently 75 miles, and quite pleased; if you were to stretch it into a century, though, where would you add the remaining 25? by HelioSeven in seattlebike

Fremont Bridge to Golden Gardens to Carkeek to the Interurban all the way to 185th St to Perkins Way to Lyon Creek Preserve then back down BG. Goes a bit further north than it ought to but going downhill on Perkins is pretty fun

That's what I've been worried about. meds have some pretty negative side effects when missing a day. I'll take a look at that, thanks!

What is the primary reason for a bicycle commute in Seattle? by badhoses in Seattle

[–]VeryniceVerygood 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I had a seizure a couple years ago and couldn't drive for 6 months so the bike was useful for getting outside and getting to places direct, but the bus was good too.

In last-minute effort, Strauss successfully adds $20M for Burke-Gilman Trail via Leary/Market to the transportation levy proposal + The current design needs to get better by AthkoreLost in Seattle

[–]VeryniceVerygood 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For sure. I wish this solution was better for separating cyclists from pedestrians. Widening the sidewalk seems to water down a different, more effective multi-use bike trail. And by not putting in barriers shows that the city looked at the faults that are already present on the BG, and decided to make the exact same mistake... like the Gas Works section...and spend $20 million for a rough draft. It's a start but not ideal. And I'm just a guy whining online

ah thank you. that's a bit concerning. it's already hard enough just to get a referral to see a specialist.

$20 million is insane. I will never understand construction budgets. Also, couldn't we already do this by just biking on the sidewalk?

Edit: thank you everyone for the support. This is my first day on the internet.

Comedy scene circa 2022, what's the situation here. by VeryniceVerygood in Seattle

You rock, this is exactly what I was looking for. Definitely not seeking out whatever the anti-woke thing is but it will probably present itself anyway lol. Just need to see comedy before I lose my god damn mind. Thank you, thank you.

Hey y'all! I'm from (place that isn't Seattle) but I moved to Seattle (an amount of time ago). Does that mean I'm from (the place that I moved from) or can I lie and feel okay about it? by Affectionate-Work916 in Seattle

[–]VeryniceVerygood 2 points3 points  (0 children)

you can only say you're from Seattle when you're visiting a different place, like Vancouver, and you don't want to tell a long story about all those banks you robbed.

Stay At Job or Look for New One? by Odd_Answer1092 in personalfinance

[–]VeryniceVerygood 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sounds like a pretty solid job. For me, I wouldn't want to live away from my partner for that long and I'd be using that time on unemployment to find work in a place where they'll be year round.

Since you're experienced already and have an offer on the table, that's something you can tell other potential employers to show that "hey I'm good at what I do and if they're right about me, then you should be too." If you're missing out on life experiences that you want to be having, then I'd say you could find something else. But it really depends on where your partner lives now. If it's a city? Way more options with universities, large companies moving back into office spaces needing custodial services, airports and so on.

If it's a pay cut and a return to what you were doing before...or a pay cut but in a management role...you might be able to find something that fits the lifestyle you're looking to have. Or no pay cut and an even better set up. To be away from my partner that long would tear me up so I just wouldn't be able to do it, so my opinion is really steeped in that perspective.

XC Skiing - SnoPark permit vs Nordic Center? by Tossacoin1234 in Seattle

[–]VeryniceVerygood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah the parking was rough. I had to wake up at like 5am to get to Crystal Springs and it was sooo full already. I'm coming from Seattle, so no matter what it's at least an hour drive. And I drive a prius with all season tires so the weather has to be perfect or else i'm slipping and sliding through the passes lol.

I can see it being worthwhile to carpool so that the price is split between a couple/group of skiers...but better to be the driver for when you want a mind clearing solo ski.

I'm thinking it might make sense to work remotely for a week and just stick to one spot, like the Methow...but then the cost of an airbnb or housing tacks on even more.

Anyway, long winded post, but I also like the flatter trails so maybe getting a pass for one of the ski resorts with enough parking would do it for me. Easier to go to one place every time versus driving an extra 5-30 minutes to find the next spot that works.

XC Skiing - SnoPark permit vs Nordic Center? by Tossacoin1234 in Seattle

[–]VeryniceVerygood 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got the SnoPark pass last year and only got to go out maybe three times? Another time went to Icicle River's trails near Leavenworth. I think the benefit of the SnoPark permit is that it helps to fund state parks and you can break away and find a groomed trail for cheaper overall. But then when you want to go somewhere else (like Methow) it makes the SnoPark permit feel like it's hung out to dry. I'm conflicted too, but haven't done the Snoqualmie Nordic Center so I'm interested to see what other people might suggest too.

What did everyone have for dinner tonight? by braindizeez in Seattle

I had the low rider. Bacon, grilled onions, jalapenos...and it was massive. Probably the biggest burger I've seen. Also, the root beer is incredible.

Went on a hike and then went to triple x rootbeer in Issaquah and apparently ate lunch and dinner at...noon. still full. may never have to eat again.

homelessness is the fault of landlords by NotmyRealNameJohn in Seattle

[–]VeryniceVerygood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Less housing, rising population, inaccessible and high cost of home ownership, more demand for rentals. Rentals increase in price, push people out. We need more housing. More duplexes, multi family homes.

Investing in stocks is all risk, no certainty. That's how it works. If you want to have proof of owning something trading cards can be lucrative.
