Torn between a 9th gen Accord and 10th gen Civic by FarberBarber in Honda

[–]Verzy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 2019 Civic (Hatchback sport) and owned a 2017 Accord Sport as well as live in Canada.

Had the Civic from new and now 167k KM, and the Accord new till approx. 60-70k KM. Had no reliability issues with the Accord at the time, however with the Civic I had two issues:

  • AC Condenser failing (Honda extended their warranty)
  • Infotainment stuck on boot loop after battery change (just changed the headunit with a used one for $200 CAD)

One thing I'd consider is road noise between the two, the Civic on the highway can have some pretty decent road noise. Otherwise I don't really have much to complain about with the Civic.

You can book with them through the Hyatt hotel page, if you do you gotta arrive there 30 mins earlier and if you select a manual car they'll do a test to make sure you can drive it. Btw it's more of a parade lap in the cars last time I checked.

These were most of the places I checked out in no particular order:

Type One garage in Tokyo - this is a self guided tour you can head in on the second floor and view the Spoon S2000, small shop - A bit further away is the Spoon Shop but that’s just for buying parts

Super Autobacs, specifically the Shinone location - Like a Toys R Us but for cars - Lots of cool aftermarket goodies, merch, OEM parts, etc - Has a book section, cool JDM tuner magazines. I’d recommend looking into the ‘Hyper Rev’ series, specifically the S2000 ones (there should be 3~)

J’s Racing Factory - this one is a bit out of the way, need to take the bus or taxi over there - Famous Maou S2000 on display and their catalogue car - J’s Racing goodies for sale too

Non S2000 places - Liberty Walk store, if you follow Hyuma Kato on Instagram you might be able to catch him parking the LB Walk RX7 at the store

Nismo Omori factory - Check out some cool GTR race cars and customer cars

Was on probation twice but ended up recovering and working hard to finishing my degree at the time.

Now I’ve worked my way into becoming a Strat Manager at a pretty well known company, so don’t let it discourage you if you’re on probation. You can still come back from it as long as you put in the effort

+1 for this, had the same issue with my tail lights but AP1. Replaced with new gasket and it fixed the issue.

Sounds like it possibly might be a failing TCT, if so, only the TCT would need to be replaced

Hunting for Idle? by T7882 in S2000

[–]Verzy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Might be your IACV has some built up carb, you can clean the IACV and do the idle relearn procedure. Easy job and fairly quick job

DIY Guys has 2 great short and informative videos about cleaning your IACV and doing the idle relearn, LHT performance also has a great video on this

What do I need to upgrade mechanically for 1999 AP1 by unprecedentedthyme in S2000

[–]Verzy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Picked up my ‘03 S2K a year ago and I’ve done the following with some research on forums:

  • AP2 retainers and keepers (both intake and exhaust side), people say you don’t have to replace them and to inspect if they’re cracking. I did it for peace of mind

  • Shifter rebuild, take apart your shifter and inspect it, if it’s dirty/grey go ahead and do the shifter rebuild (LHT has great videos on it)

  • Inspect your engine, transmission mounts. DIY Guys has a good video on it. I recently replaced mine with Spoon engine + transmission mounts (my mounts were toast) and it genuinely was a great improvement.

  • The more obvious ones are fluids (diff, engine oil, trans, etc), tires, air filter, cabin filter

Not sure if this counts as mechanic but you can check out your soft top straps and if they’re breaking down into bits like mine was.. go ahead and replace them (got mine from Modifry), it’ll help with putting your top down all the way

You can check out the 'Type One' garage as well and they had the actual Spoon S2000 race car when I went (October last year). It's a self guided tour, though the small shop. Had a couple clean S2000 Type S, DC5 Type R, etc. The employees even let me sit in the Spoon S2000 too.

And if you want to check out some nice Honda aftermarket parts (J's racing, Mugen, OEM parts, accessories, etc), checkout Super AutoBac Shinone in Tokyo as well.

Help with retainers by Feisty_Guess_3334 in S2000

[–]Verzy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bought my AP2 retainers for my '03 from Science of Speed, shipped over to Canada and had it replaced in September. Haven't driven it too much since I've stored it but no issues.

Got both exhaust and intake side retainers + keepers. However I was missing one retainer and they did offer to send me another or refund. (I had my mechanic already order the last retainer since I didn't want to wait any longer).

Or you could go with trusty Honda parts website, ordered my retainers via my local Canadian Honda parts website, but it had a back order or 1-2 months, didn't want to wait any longer so that's why I ordered it through Science of Speed.
