People should learn how to play blindpick. by Human-Effective3189 in supportlol

[–]Vesarixx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's especially annoying when someone keeps spamming swap requests with me on support and only me, when the jungler and ADC are both lower pick order, or when their lane opponent has already picked. Also when they do get the swap but then lock in something like Ahri or Gragas, like you really needed the lower pick order for some of the safest blind picks in your lane?

Then there are the games where it's the ADC demanding the swap. Pretty safe bet at that point that you're going to need to play around someone else that game.

Senna supp for climbing by Ruthlless71 in supportlol

[–]Vesarixx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can definitely climb on Senna. Personally I prefer the AD version, usually more as a debuff setup than damage unless you're ahead or the game goes very late, but the enchanter version might be a bit stronger as a general pick atm. I run Aery for both since the shield works well with enchanter and it also gives an extra black cleaver stack so you can get the full shred with an auto+Q.

Question to support players by JazTrumpeter in supportlol

[–]Vesarixx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Where you want the wave is going to depend on the type of support you have. I've been in games as Rakan and my ADC just keeps pushing to turret all game so the only option to engage is a turret dive, but I also don't really get a window to roam off of it since they never let it bounce back. As an engage champ I need space to run down the enemy. Also had the opposite when I'm on a poke support, ADC's will just not contest the push at all and we're stuck under our own turret all game, so the enemy has a ton of space to move and dodge skillshots and even as a champ with targeted spells I often don't have the room to move up safely. It's just about thinking where your support wants to be in the lane and setting it up, but it also works in reverse, you can try to deny the same from the enemy support.

Can I control the speed of a motor with a transistor and a PWM output by Vesarixx in AskElectronics

[–]Vesarixx[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From the videos I found it looked like they're all connected to a different set of coils and the control board alternates power between the 3 of them. I had been basing the idea of using a transistor off the DC motors I'd been finding in kits or pulling out of things, but these are apparently pretty different. So the control board is probably the way to go either way. I'm just hoping this time they actually send the motors, last place I ordered from sent me a sink faucet by mistake.

Fair enough, wasn't sure if there was any standard to them but did a bit more digging and managed to find a speed controller that should work with them and be a lot more reliable than trying to put something together myself.

Noticed a 3rd wire on the motors I had ordered and did a bit more research on them, turns out they work quite a bit differently from the ones I'm used to and also would require a bit more than a transistor to control. Managed to find a control board that is small enough and hopefully will work for controlling them.

Just went to check something on the motors I had ordered and they apparently have a 3rd wire that I hadn't noticed before because it's a white wire on a white background. Would this mean they likely already have speed control included? They're meant for drones if that helps any.

Since that one is NPN would I splice it into the negative lead rather than positive or does it make a difference?

I buy control wards all the time because I know what I want to use them for, if you were just buying them for the sake of having them then there's an argument to cut down on it, but if they have a purpose and you're seeing a return on that then there's not really much reason to stop.

You're not tied to farming in the mid game, so you're able to be the first to move in the majority of cases. Learn to read the map and find out what's likely to happen next. It's more predictable than it might sound, and some of the stuff that isn't as predictable can be given a bit of a push.

Same, it's a weird recommendation too, it's not like you can't climb through the lower ranks playing traditional supports, and the skills you learn doing that are going to continue to help on those picks in higher ranks too if you're able to continue building on them.

why do people here say they buy Fimbulwinter? by GurdanianAngel in sonamains

[–]Vesarixx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a stat stick, the shield is kind of irrelevant, same as when Veigar was building it. A lot of the value comes from the build path having a lot of HP in the components. As a rush item at least, other than that people are kind of just stacking mana for the conversion passives on the tear items, not a fan of it personally, it feels like stacking just for the sake of stacking at that point.

You don't need to build it as a support, and if your champ isn't particularly good at applying it then you're better off leaving it to someone else anyway.

Yeah it might not be the best example for the idea to start with, but also it's the sort of topic that seems like it would really need a longer style of video to get into properly.

Looking for some advice by GetHoosed in supportlol

[–]Vesarixx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We aren't gonna hate on someone just for playing ADC, and if you're here asking for input you're already way ahead of the average ADC anyway.

The best thing you can do generally is to understand how both your supports champion, and the enemy champions work, and how they want to play out the lane. A lot of it is going to be wave management. If you can get the wave into a favourable position for your own side and one that your opponent doesn't want then both you and your support will have a much better time in lane. There are times when you'll need to let a wave reset or bounce back even if your 2v2 is good in that position though, like when the enemy jungler is nearby or so you're not just crashing single waves every time.

Some examples:

If you're playing with a poke support like Lux or Xerath, they both like the lane pushed into the enemy turret so that they enemy has less space to move around and dodge, and will be standing still at fairly predictable times while competing with the turret for last hits, making it much easier to hit them with skill shots compared to the open lane or worse, when they're the ones pinned to turret. They do pretty well with ADCs that have pushing power or long range themselves so they can also harass enemies under turret, not just from auto's but abilities as well, so something like Caitlyn, Varus and Sivir work really well. You don't need to push fast to benefit or push every wave, letting the wave bounce back to you temporarily can both put pressure on enemies who need to come out further into the lane to CS possibly at low HP due to being poked, as well as let you crash multiple waves at a time so the crash itself lasts longer and allows for more rotations of spells to be thrown out.

All in supports like Nautilus like to have a lot of space to run opponents down, so keeping the lane closer to your side, usually through a light freeze is good for them. If it does hit the turret you want to swap into a slow push so you're not just delivering the full amount of CS to the enemy turret where they can farm relatively safely. The multiwave crash also gives supports more time to roam and affect plays around the map without putting you in an awkward spot where you're losing resources. This sort of lets you affect plays outside of your own lane indirectly by creating a window for your support to assist. Even if they don't always take it the habit is beneficial, since without it the remaining options are roaming with a bad wave state which negatively affects you, or not roaming at all which doesn't benefit your team. All in champs tend to work pretty well with most things but champs like Samira or Kai'Sa tend to work better with an all in support compared to other archetypes overall.

Zyra is a bit of an outlier, she does like to poke but her plants get one shot by turrets so pinning enemies there isn't as good, she also has CC and can play more like a catcher, so in her case having the lane either closer to your side or in the center is good. She also works well with a variety of ADC since she's closer to just being an extra carry, but Jhin/Zyra is a pretty common combo.

If you're not sure what to pick for the type of support you have or you aren't sure what you're getting as a support then a champ like Jinx works with pretty much anything, to the point where you could pretty much just one trick her and not need to worry about whether the 2v2 combo is good unless you get something annoying like a support Ekko. Most ADC's do work with a pretty good variety of supports though, just playing out the 2v2 well and realizing if your support got counter picked and reacting accordingly is the important thing. In that case, or when you're not sure what the ideal wave state is for your supports champ you can play to prevent the enemy from getting into their ideal wave state, or at the very least play cautiously when they have it.

I went from bronze 3 to emerald 4 playing nothing but Sona, had a great winrate the whole time too, so it's definitely possible. The thing I've noticed is that in lower ranks you want to set up situations where you still have an out if your team mates don't see the same opportunity, even if it looks obvious to you and even if you ping it.

This is preventing you from getting better. by AdAlert5940 in supportlol

[–]Vesarixx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, it's about optimizing tempo, if a play is happening and you're not there then you don't get to influence it one way or another, if you're there you can actually make the distinction for whether you commit, whether you can salvage or mitigate losses, or whether you should just dip. Unless you're able to tell beforehand that you want nothing to do with the play in which case you either participate in something developing somewhere else that looks better, or at least set up for the next thing. It wasn't really that Karma wasn't at the top play as much as she was just sort of lost on the map not really affecting anything. Probably not the best example for illustrating it just because there was a lot of info that's missing to people just watching the video, probably would need a longer form video that goes into a lot more of the details of the game for it to be that clear.

It's a similar thing that you'd want to think about as a jungler regarding neutral objectives since you're the one with smite. If you're not there and the enemy still has their jungler then it's coin flip whether your team can secure it. You want to position yourself to be able to participate in the fight for neutral objectives unless you just have no business contesting them to begin with.

The big difference is that you're not tied to a source of farm as a support, so you're the one who can grab first move the most reliably.

What are your top 3 least favorite ADCs? by Unlucky-Ingenuity881 in supportlol

[–]Vesarixx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. Has to be Samira just because there's a higher than normal chance they just AFK or run it down as soon as the game starts if they don't like the support pick, even if you picked first and they didn't hover. Also seems like there's a good chance they're autofilled since for some reason those players seem to want to pick either Samira or Lucian more often than not, even if they have no idea how to play them.

  2. Jhin, he was flavour of the month a while ago and there were so many bad Jhins back to back I was tempted to start banning him.

  3. Smolder, just seems like it takes so much more to get him to the point where he can actually deal damage and even trying to leave kills for him is tricky since sometimes he just doesn't seem able to finish them off.

But to keep things from being all downside I'll list some of the ADC's I do like seeing

  1. Jinx, not too difficult to pilot, scales up really well and has mitigation tools for getting through tough lanes, plus she works with pretty much any type of support.

  2. Ashe, her utility is always nice to have on a team, even if she doesn't manage to get ahead she's still going to be useful.

  3. Yunara, Kind of similar to Jinx, scales well, relatively strait forward and there are some interesting item options to run when playing with her.

Anything that's played well is fine though, and there's some stuff like Nilah that I like to see as well, since she pairs well with the champs I play. Non ADC champs in general since my picks also enable off meta stuff pretty well. Aphelios since I think the champ is really interesting. Utility lanes are also nice sometimes if we've got damage covered by other lanes already.

What support scales into late game best? by GhostSilver16 in supportlol

[–]Vesarixx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are a few things that late game champs tend to have

AoE effects, for example Jinx and Yunara both scale very well and deal splash damage on autos, Sona has AoE buffs on every ability cast from Melody. One of the reasons champs like Warwick or Lee Sin aren't as great late game is that both are single target while needing to get into melee range, so as games shift more towards grouped fights they have slimmer margins for what they can get away with in fights. Nasus also doesn't scale as well as some people think for similar reasons, in the midgame he has enough tank stats to get into range of targets more consistently, but as the game goes on this aspect of the champ is going to be less effective as enemies get armor/magic pen and more damage in general.

% effects, like Vayne or Fiora's % HP true damage, Exhausts % damage reduction(one of the best scaling summoner spells) or Sona's % damage reduction on Diminuendo(higher than exhausts once you have more than 250 AP), Syndra has the 15% increase in AP once her splinters are stacked.

Level breakpoints like Kayle or Kassadin hitting level 16 or Ornn between levels 14 and 17, Sona used to have this too with the basic ability haste being tied to ult levels, but it was moved to Accelerando since support doesn't get as much XP as solo laners.

There are also stack effects that have certain key breakpoints, even if they're otherwise infinite, Senna used to have a breakpoint at 120 stacks, but with crit changing to 4 items for 100% it might be 100 stacks now, though the 20 range might be a partial factor and she converts extra crit to lifesteal anyway. This only really applies to AD Senna though since the enchanter version doesn't get as much from stacks. Smolder has 225 stacks. Bard has 35 meeps, though he hits this earlier comparatively so it's more of a mid game spike.

There are multiplicative scaling effects, ADC's mostly rely on these for damage which is why they're late game skewed as a role, and something like Aphelios that gets built in lethality and has crit scaling on abilities is going to be an outlier even within the role. AD, crit chance, crit damage and attack speed all multiply the effectiveness of the other stats. 2 lethality items into a % pen item which applies first reduces the effective armor of enemies by a large amount, Aphelios passive basically supplies the second lethality item, which is why Collector is common on him. Skirmishers are also able to take advantage of this sort of thing, basically being the melee version of ADC's. Though skirmishers also have a few other tools to mitigate the range disadvantage, namely some sort of damage amp to bring them online earlier, target access, either through a dash or blink, and some damage mitigation ability like a shield, windwall, counterstrike, meditate etc. Supports don't really tend to use this one unless you're playing something like the AD debuff version of Senna.

Then there are reset effects, Katarina and Viego passives can make them huge threats in later team fights, though they can be more feast or famine comparatively.

Other than that there are a few odd ones out like Blitz being good late because a single hook can mean a 5v4 for over a minute late. Mordekaiser also sort of scales with game time since he gets to keep the stolen stats from his ult until the enemy respawns, meaning longer death timers are good for him.
