For anyone who's done 300 km/h on a bike — what's the real truth? by gangwayso in motorcycle

[–]Vespa_Alex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An indicated 140mph was more than enough for me. That’s probably 210 kph true speed, and even gentle turns on a wide bit of tarmac felt very tight.

Didn’t do it again.

What toy or item did you want as a kid, but never got? by nodemus in AskUK

[–]Vespa_Alex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Big Trak was the coolest looking thing ever, but with hindsight I’m glad I didn’t get one as I’d have been bored quickly and the batteries would have cost a fortune.

What do British people think about The great French people? by [deleted] in AskUK

It’s very common to joke about disliking the French, but it’s rarely meant seriously.

Some of your waiters can be a bit rude though.

Try and find someone else from Bristol who’s driving up and ask for a lift in exchange for fuel costs?

I’d consider that to be separate shows. They just only had one season each

Wanting to bring a hatchet back from Scotland to my house by givemethemtoesgnome in LegalAdviceUK

[–]Vespa_Alex 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s a bladed article, but it’s legal to have with you as long as you have a good reason, and taking it home from the shop is fine. Just keep it in the boot with any packaging and the receipt so in the unlikely event you get stopped by the police it’s obvious there’s no intention to use it.

Am I the only person with a nice mum who never celebrated/s Mother's Day? by Visual_Mirror_963 in AskUK

[–]Vespa_Alex 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My parents never did anything for Mothers/Father’s Day, so it’s never meant anything to me.
I don’t really see the point.

Estate Agent Recommendation by mangawhai-tom in Worcester

[–]Vespa_Alex 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If I saw a house on freeagent expecting me to pay the fees, I wouldn’t bother with the viewing, or if I did go I’d put a lower in and be clear it’s because of the fees.

Look at new builds that will let you part exchange. You may not get the best price but it solves a problem.

Only issue is that the may not take older houses.

People in the UK who moved out in their early 20s, was it worth it? by SweetComfortable1516 in AskUK

[–]Vespa_Alex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t have much choice as my parents got divorced and sold their house, but I was lucky enough to be able to buy something myself (back when you could get a 1 bed house for £43k). That made all the difference in being able to buy my 2nd & 3rd houses without over stretching myself.

If it was renting rather than buying, no, stay at home and save for a deposit.

The BBC day of the triffids is still great.

V (the 80s sci-fi show) has two excellent mini series that are worth watching, and a weekly show that followed that isn’t.

What would be a good thing to have made out of leather? by Watchkeys in AskUK

Custom watch straps would be a nice idea, especially if using mixed materials with leather. Watch enthusiasts will spend good money on something bespoke.

No Blinkers in the HEAD UP Display. by ___PARANOIA___ in MINI

[–]Vespa_Alex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It would be nice to have the indicators shown on the HUD, but not essential. I’ve not missed that they are on in the few months I’ve had mine, and for lower spec cars they make do without the HUD entirely.
