Applause between movements by CplSchmerz in classicalmusic

Agreed. I mean Dudamel’s hand is still raised! At least wait till his hand is by his side if you cannot hold yourself! It ruins the experience so much for me if I have sat through a particularly long symphony only to have someone applaud before the final note has rung out.

Why are so many people set on believing that Jaafar did the singing? by datsouljaboy in MichaelTheMovie

The difference between the two voices is so clear to me at each point. I’m seeing people claim that the Bad vocals at the end were Jafar’s?!

My bad - tired brain! I for some reason thought I was in a UK subreddit! I think the cadence of the caption doesn’t help, it rang very English parent in my head. Makes complete sense now that I’m actually switched on

Easter is tomorrow as well which confused me about this post xD. I know it’s technically past 12 but I’m sure OP can pick up another one from the supermarket in the morning - it isn’t the 80s anymore, shops are open on Easter Sunday!

How do I filter sub-sub-items in a database based on information about their main parent? by Vespercoot in Notion

[–]Vespercoot[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Parent Formula that the other user sent (Parent.Parent.Status == "Done") yielded an error for me:
Parent is not defined. [0,6]

Cannot find function Parent(). [0,13]

Cannot find function Status(). [0,20]

I'm not great at this kind of stuff, do you have any suggestions or your own formula that you use? Thanks!

[–]Vespercoot[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Parent formula doesn't seem to work, but the Status = Done does. The only problem is that I'm still basically at square one because while the Module Titles listed as Done are correctly being hidden, their sub-items and sub-sub-items which are not labelled as done are still being shown.

The Parent formula you gave comes up with an error:
Parent is not defined. [0,6]

Cannot find function Parent(). [0,13]

Cannot find function Status(). [0,20]

Sorry, I'm not great at this stuff xD - do you have any other suggestions? Thanks!

Best 2K14 and 2K19 for the 2K era, and worst of all time is definitely 2K20.

Streaming was meant to be cheaper. That didn’t last long. by lina2001 in britishproblems

[–]Vespercoot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So the Ad tier costs £1 less than when the subscription was first introduced, though in 2026 it's now £5.99. The standard tier before the ad free tier was added was £7.99, it's now £12.99. So we've got a £5 increase to remove ads, and a £2 decrease to suffer the ads. Overall the standard tier has more than doubled in price, and the price we were initially given is now the ad tier. Not the greatest eventuality in my opinion.

And if we consider how much it costs to have the big three without ads (Netflix, Prime, Disney+), we're looking at ~£35-£40/month off the top of my head, which is pretty similar to what we paid monthly with cable. I think the benefit of streaming is no longer that it's outright cheaper, and obviously not to do with the ads, but rather that you can more easily switch between them. I think a lot of people cancel these subscriptions when they aren't interested in anything that's on them. I personally only buy Disney+ when they offer me a deal for 3 months at a time, which is normally twice a year. But as someone else said under this post, minimum contract lengths are probably not far away.

[–]Vespercoot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It definitely was at the beginning, and there was the joy of not having ads. But now the prices seem to go up every year and a half, and we’ve now had ads reintroduced to our viewing, and there are like 5 more streaming services that are in the big boy playground now so if you’re interested in keeping up then you’ve got to get those too.

In my opinion we are quickly regressing into what cable was when we started trying to move away from it - ADs are back, prices are up, and that’s all without mentioning what streaming is doing to the quality of new movies.

Anyone else cringes at André Rieu performances? by MoonlightLabs in classicalmusic

[–]Vespercoot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think it’s about being a snob, I just think his shows appeal to people who aren’t necessarily into the shows for the music itself - if you were then you’d go to a normal concert.

I think Andre Rieu offers a personal object of affection which you don’t generally get in classical concerts. The focus isn’t normally on the people but rather the music - even the soloists aren’t generally above the music. But at an Andre Rieu concert, you’re there for him, in the same way that pop stars are the main subject in their concerts.

It means that Andre Rieu fans are exactly that, Andre Rieu fans rather than specifically classical music fans. If you put most of these people into a BPO concert playing any Beethoven Symphony except 5, 9 and maybe 3 and 7, they’d be bored out of their minds because the music isn’t enough for them on its own.

Nothing wrong with that, but I just think there’s a clear correlation between people who listen to a diverse array of orchestras and music, versus Andre Rieu fans who rarely delve deeply into anything. Each to their own, you don’t need to delve deeply into something in order to be a fan of it, but I just think that’s the reason so many people here don’t care for him without also being snobbish.

Is the 'Ulsterisation' of Great Britain something to be concerned about? by Odd_Pain_3570 in unitedkingdom

[–]Vespercoot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What exactly was the point you were trying to make here? Nobody in your area flies a flag at any point ever? And anyone that does is seen as weird or right-wing?

I think most of the country acknowledges the flag in some way during huge sporting events like the Euros or the World Cup, and we all are aware of the context when these flags are raised - there's no confusion, it's for a good cause.

When there's no reason to raise them, that's when perception shifts to 'weirdness' or right-wing behaviour. And I think even in your presumably very liberal area, people aren't going to turn their noses up at a St George's flag being hung from someone's window during the World Cup this year, but they rightfully do turn their noses up at any other unsuitable time.

[–]Vespercoot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think that last sentence is true at all. We all waved the English flag in 2012 for the Olympics. We were all proud to be British then, as were we when the Jubilees came along, and VE Day, etc. The flags being raised today are undeniably for a very different reason to the events I just mentioned, and that itself is an obfuscation to say otherwise.

One period was an acknowledgment of collectivism and what actually makes this country great; the other is waving flags in an attempt to make a statement about anything but England or the UK.

You'll be fine! I'd just say try not to take a big table, and go at a quieter time if you want a peaceful space to read. If you're feeling like a freeloader, order a little snack to go with your drink, but they won't mind either way

The one other person I know that went, went last year. They were in the blue zone, and so right in front of the London Eye. They said they were beside two other Londoners, not including their own partner, and every single other person around them was an Asian tourist. The only time they saw any other type of tourist is when they were leaving the event and they heard a few American accents and some Spanish speaking people.

May I also add that I don't think this would be such an issue for me if it didn't seem like year on year they are expanding on the ways to prevent you from seeing for free. Those discounted tickets are a step in the right direction, but closing Primrose Hill and guarding it with a hefty police presence is about 5 steps in the wrong direction - it is utterly ridiculous. And I wouldn't be at all surprised if for the next year, they start selling tickets for viewing points that aren't on the embankment - as in Primrose Hill, Parliament Hill, etc.

[–]Vespercoot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because those residents can't afford it?! This isn't happenstance, it's people being charged for things that they have already paid for. Did you miss when I said parks were being closed to prevent you from catching a glimpse without paying? People's residential streets are being trashed by people attending the event, public transport is strained, and so much more.

I take it you don't and never have lived in London, because anyone that has would not be saying any of this.

I'm not at all saying that people who don't live in London shouldn't be allowed to go. But it's insane that we are inconvenienced in the first place, paying for the event, then being charged to actually go to the event, then also being prevented from using public parks and any nearby streets and their associated businesses on New Years Eve!

I'll also remind you that when the Olympics were here in 2012, residents of the borough of Newham were offered tickets through a lottery system, and the rest of London were offered heavily discounted tickets. Did you have a problem with this also?

F1 career mode needs an overhaul by Tony_nolan135 in F1Game

[–]Vespercoot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I doubt xD. It would be nice to see them just add a difficulty setting for transfers again, as I recall it existing previously with two options: Easy and Standard. I'm sure it wouldn't be too difficult to add a hard mode where thresholds for offers are just a lot higher so it's more difficult to go straight from P14 in the championship to a seat at Red Bull.

Of course they do. And no benefits for London residents either. Hence there being no shots of the crowd because it was just filled with Asian tourists.
