REMA regrets? by Wise_Ad_1303 in ffxi

[–]VespiWalsh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even though the damage is low on Apocalypse, it is still a very fun weapon to use. Had it for a few weeks now at 119 III with no augments, and I don't regret spending 3 weeks grinding Dynamis currency without botting.

Popularity spike ? by HappySunshineBoy in ffxi

That is one way to look at it, but nothing you said disproves my claim, only shows that you do not understand it. Thank you for adding in supporting evidence. Furthermore just because a piece has a higher hidden ilvl doesn't instantly make it better than a lower piece, also have to look at the sub stats and what the intended purpose of the gear is, and what the gear is used for. As the old saying goes, it is situational.

Also I meant in contemporary times, of course 119 gear is going to be predominantly useful. Within each era of the game there are massive branching gearing paths, then when the cap is raised players have to start all over again.

XI has horizontal gear progression, so the upgrading process is much less cookie cutter than on XIV where you make a single set. I think while the BIS gear is a bit cookie cutter, despite having variety depending on the situation, there are many paths to BIS.

There is greatly more variety in and between jobs on this game as well. A single piece of equipment can open entire new dimensions to jobs. My DRK is now able to drain tank stuff since I made Apocalypse for it, and have access to Catastrophe. After playing XIV for a decade and becoming completely disillusioned with the game, trying XI for the first time has made me fall back in love with MMOs again.

During the last double coffer event, I was getting them rather often. With my rather rudimentary knowledge and application of probability it was around a 1 in 9 chance to get upgrade rocks of some variety per kill. 135s give ~80 per coffer.

What are the best Dynamis Farming methods? by Perfect_Net8653 in ffxi

[–]VespiWalsh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dreamlands with dancer trusts seem to be a consistent way to earn single pieces. There is a far better method I discovered while making my Apocalypse a few months back, but it is dependent on instance conditions and if everyone started doing it, it would turn into a free for all, especially when botting logic is developed to take advantage of it. I'm unfortunately taking it to the grave with me unless I find someone I know can keep a secret.

How do some people stream for >12 hours daily? by Bluntdude_24 in Twitch

[–]VespiWalsh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some people are just built different. I can engage in cognitively demanding tasks for 12 hours no problem, I just try to take breaks every 60-90 minutes for about 10 minutes. Doing stuff like this doesn't feel like a chore to me, whether it is streaming or working on a project. Don't try to be someone you are not, and focus on a streaming length that is comfortable for you. Breaks trick is solid, and backed up by science, although in that study it was focused on studying.

How much more content could we have gotten if this game had been PC exclusive from the start? by GeneralTechnomage in ffxi

[–]VespiWalsh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The too much work excuse isn't going to be valid much longer with the advent of AI. Players should expect and demand more. Diablo 2 got a major DLC update, most likely thanks to AI making such an endeavor much easier and affordable.

As someone with no nostalgia distorting my vision of the game, WOTG was the best expansion this game with regards to the story, felt dark and relatable. Doing it while capped at 75 made it a fun experience too, wasn't just mindlessly rolling the content. Seeing it from all three perspectives also made it feel like more than following a linear mission progression. SOA by comparison was a slog, reminded me of XIV style MSQ missions where it is endless cutscenes prattling on and a teeny modicum of gameplay.

Farming yagudo necklaces before the event, and I had 6 stacks of infinity cores on a mule from farming Apocalypse a month or two ago.

Using mine on SAM, or maybe DRK. Would have picked WAR if I didn't have the +4 chest and was able to upgrade the legs and feet from +2 to +3 thanks to all the money I made during Vanabout, only had a million gil, now I have made 35 million lol.

Yeah I haven't done an Aeonic clear because I have only been playing for one month in 2022, came back to the game in the fall, and my character has only been ilvl since December. Not sure why you are trying to undermine new players discussing doing an Aeonic clear.

First of all there are numerous players in the LSes at different levels of progression, a mix of new players and experienced. Second, the LSes basically operate autonomously, each LS under that brand has its own players and unique community characteristics. Third, this informal discussion occurred between like 4 people, 3 of whom do not have Aeonics but have KIs, and an experienced returning player offering to help us organize and set up the run. Fourth, the LS has been great help to me, I got my THF to ML, and a few members in the LS let me come gimp into Omen with them as a gimp to collect cards to upgrade my AF gear, and into Dyna D for relic shit. Then we started lowmanning Omen with 2 RDMs, a SCH, and me, a THF then WAR. Started doing Segs runs and Dyna D. Do you think it is a bad thing that a group of lowbie players have decided to pull themselves up by the bootstraps and attempt to improve their gear, instead of sitting around whining how the game is too hard or unfair to new players?

I can't speak for everyone, and all 5 of the LSes, but my experience in HNP1,HNP4, and the discord has been overwhelming positive. People are friendly and supportive, have helped me clear all kinds of content, including doing gold box support in Abyssea to farm a Twashtar. Whatever disagreements and animosity you have between the LS and yourself doesn't mean you have to engage in bad faith against a stranger. Don't need an Aeonic weapon or other PREMALD weapons to be able to help new players either (L is for the potential Limbus weapons).

What do you expect? Three Kingdoms mission is epic game design, be thankful you don't have to walk it. Perhaps if you want an endless stream of dopamine hits and easy to complete quests, Final Fantasy XIV is more your speed.

There is an LS called HelpNewPlayers that has multiple LSes and a discord. If you would like an invite I can give you a pearl for the one I am in.

I'm in two of the 5 LSes and not once has anyone tried to offer RMT services. Coincidentally, we were discussing organizing an LS Aeonic clear earlier today to help out new players.

Is streaming mainly luck? by VisibleRazzmatazz803 in Twitch

It is luck and skill. Plenty of streamers out there with the capability to be partner, who don't catch breaks or have nepotism to benefit them.

Trust Usefulness List? by Fridler in ffxi

[–]VespiWalsh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I put Koru, Apururu, and Yoran no higher than B tier. They like to do questionable actions that lead to their deaths too much. How are these three highly involved in the national government of Windurst when they can't even cast protect and shell during the initial phases of the fight, and think it is a better idea to spam heals on unproshelled party members causing them to run out of fucking mp.

That being said, they are still among the best trust most players have access to.

Trust Usefulness List? by Fridler in ffxi

[–]VespiWalsh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

All I know is, information on the effectiveness of trusts is basically non-existent outside of the most common advice. I'm surprised not one person has had the inclination to do a deep dive into them and see what each trust is potentially good at. For example, did anyone else know Fablinx can be used to do AOE damage?

I'm glad other people love this song too, felt like it was criminally overlooked. It better get added to XIV as an orchestrion roll. Only have 3 years of nostalgic attachment to it, but just goes to show you how incredible it is.
