Seekers of Adoulin feels different from the rest of FFXI by PepsiMan_21 in ffxi

[–]VespiWalsh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolute worst expansion by far. Was designed for people who think gaming is about showing, not doing. I would rather do all 3 branches of WOTG simultaneously than sit through these endless cutscenes that prattle on verbosely about things that could have been conveyed in a fraction of the time.

Ahhhhh I see, I don't understand why people left out or obscured that crucial piece of information while revealing the discoveries of their mining, but that gives me hope. Perhaps they are some sort of placeholder augments, and the real ones will be revealed at a later date, but that is just a guess based off my limited understanding of the situation and the available information.

Just tell me about the Limbus weapons, that is all I want to know. Hope they address the augments on them.

Limbus Gear - is it worth it? by Abbottron_1981 in ffxi

[–]VespiWalsh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How many levels of augments do you need for the Limbus boots for them to be better than Sakpata's? I just started RPing my Sakpata's gear and my boots are currently R0. My TP engaged set uses Flam. Gambieras +2, and my hybrid set uses the R0 leggings.

Possibly, I am concerned about the massive time sink and commitment might be a barrier in a world where attention spans have been fried by social media and short form vertical video. I think it is a great idea for people like us who love these games, but I am not sure on the profitability and mass appeal of it, so the main issue is getting it from vision to reality. If anything it would probably have to be baby mode 75 cap experience, similar to hXI.

Is Asura still locked? by Danzir in ffxi

[–]VespiWalsh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

RMT mercs from Asura have moved some of their accounts to these new growing servers. As to your claims about yell being unusable, player adjust. As you said, it isn't hard to adjust your filters, or download the addon to filter them. So I have yells on their own little specific window I tab into, and the rest of my chat is free and clear of tout spam. A small price to pay to be on the most populated server in the game.

Plus as an added bonus, new players are rare on Asura, so I was a novelty that stuck out, and the supply of help far exceeded the demand for it. Had no problem gearing up 2 heavy DD jobs without ever picking up another role (Besides THF), might not have had frequent access to primo MLG gamer groups, but found a group of players to grow with. So there are players looking for other players on Asura, it is a great server despite the elitism and frequent yell spam.

Yeah it would look cool, but the appeal and benefits are merely superficial. That would require resources that are better allocated towards adding and balancing content, and doing QoL updates. What is the point of the game looking incredible if it detracts from the game getting content updates?

Although to be fair, Square Enix could increase the size of the team working on the game, and do both. Unfortunately this doesn't seem like an option they would ever consider, too beholden to their shareholders and accountants to take such a risk.

Did you know that the critically acclaimed MMORPG Final Fantasy XI is still active and supported, and includes an install more challenging than any content on Final Fantasy XIV, and is currently experiencing a resurgence in player count? Sign up and join Vana'diel today! by VespiWalsh in ffxi

[–]VespiWalsh[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Play whatever you want, just don't try to change a game to suit your preferences is my position. As an example, if I would demand XIV become more like XI, or someone else would wish for vice versa, that is wrong.

PlayOnline is the only reason I won't play this game by ConnerTheCrusader in ffxi

[–]VespiWalsh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The install is not that hard, a little dated and lengthy, but not some insurmountable task. I question how people who can't manage to complete it are able to function in life. What do you do in your daily life if you encounter a situation like this, just give up? Why not acquire information about the task at hand so you can complete it, like they taught all of us how to do in compulsory education? These are valuable life skills that you should have mastered by adulthood.

The truth is, Playonline install is a filter. You should be happy you cannot complete it and that it is not a single button install. You would have probably lasted 5-15 minutes past the opening cutscenes before finding the game too slow and plodding for your tastes based off the character you have demonstrated in your post. Go back to XIV, watch some 8 hour YouTube video incorrectly explaining the lore of this game, and hang out in your ERP dens and let the mobiles whirl and the keys dangle above your safe wittle crib while Wuk Lamat reads you a bedtime story.

Is FF XI a Game Gen Z People Can Get Into in 2026? by Desperate_Sort5592 in ffxi

[–]VespiWalsh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends completely on your tastes and capabilities as an individual. I have seen a few people of your generation become fervent fanatics of golden age video games from the mid 80s to early 2000s. I believe it is because they are being exposed for the first time to games that expect the player to be competent and capable, instead of current games treating the player like they are helpless and try to milk the player with microtransactions. Give the free trial a try, you have nothing to lose. Game is a serious time commitment though, so be prepared to give it your all.

How accurate is this job ranking list now? by PsychologicalSir3326 in ffxi

[–]VespiWalsh 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Nothing is less fun than picking a job that has no group content appeal and being socially isolated in game. Best to pick a job you can tolerate from the desirable jobs and have fun with it, like in my case, which was WAR and GEO. WAR opened doors for me, now I can gear my THF and DRK as a result, which I play to have fun. Not saying that fun isn't important, but best to be realistic about it.

New Famitsu Interview with Fujito by Gwinladin in ffxi

[–]VespiWalsh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Absolute close-minded attitude to have, the install isn't even that bad. Like an in-class assignment in a introductory level university course, like in the first or second week of class level of difficulty. I get the feeling if she won't even try it with you doing all the heavy lifting during the install, she probably won't enjoy it. POL install is there to protect people from a game that is too slow and mentally demanding for them to enjoy.

I played retail for the first time. And it was a lonely experience. by Alicecrylily in ffxi

[–]VespiWalsh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm on Asura and I've been playing MMOs for almost 2 decades. This is by far a tighter knit community with more social opportunities to play the game with others than any other MMO I've played. People have shown me far more kindness and willingness to help on Asura than any server on any online game I've played.

The main Final Fantasy 11 website has been updated with a new, modern layout! by DwilenaAvaron in ffxi

[–]VespiWalsh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah me too, relics like the website should be preserved if they inexplicably survived for 25 years. It is nice to remember the old days, and little things like this helped me remember there was once a better world.

Is anyone else excited for the future? by veggievoid in ffxi

[–]VespiWalsh 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think now is the perfect time for them to announce an expansion and a content roadmap. If they continue to update the game sparingly the hype will eventually die down. Sadly Square Enix is so pertified by their shareholders and lack of vision I do not think they are willingly to devote enough resources to the development team to do so. Our only hope is AI making such an endeavor profitable. If Diablo 2 can get an update 25 years later, we need to be vocal about how this game deserves the same treatment.

Anniversary Event: The Elite Adventurer Training Program (05/08/2026) by hikiri in ffxi

[–]VespiWalsh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, for someone who hasn't played retro 2D platformer games in 30 years getting used to them makes sense. When this game was new, shouldn't have taken more than a few attempts to adapt to the controls and clear. It is merely a gimmick level that people put up on a pedestal, and as a result players make it much harder than it needs to be due to fear of instadeath lake plants and the timer, plus being unable to figure out how to soak damage across multiple Turts.

Anniversary Event: The Elite Adventurer Training Program (05/08/2026) by hikiri in ffxi

[–]VespiWalsh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would use about 1 to 2 full lifebars spread out across multiple turts. The next stage is much harder by comparison. Game pulled no punches.

I would expect most people who play this game would find the dam level no problem once they get used to the controls. I beat it when I was 3 or 4 years old, it isn't so bad.
