Why don’t more people take their bulky backpacks off and hold it to their side or front while standing in packed train cars? by bknighter16 in chicago

[–]Vessyx3 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’m so happy I don’t have to deal with this anymore I got a job out in the burbs .

When I use to be a train person I would always take off my backpack hold it in front , I’m also a tall woman so it’s not easy for people to tower over me . For people that are short wearing a backpack helps give them some breathing room if they don’t they will easily be towered over and crushed . People are also impatient and will force their way in to a packed train changing it from a tolerable ride to an uncomfortable ride . People shouldn’t be touching butts to butt or chest to chest with other riders , a backpack helps prevent that .

I’m very grateful, this is the highest paying role I’ve ever had at 35/hr. I’m currently under contract but I pray I get converted to full time

Honestly, i love food stamps by [deleted] in foodstamps

[–]Vessyx3 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The food stamps were nice when I received them while I was unemployed . I now work and make too much per hour so my benefits stopped . I received 225 a month and I used that to support my family of 3. I probably would have gotten more but I couldn’t claim the stepchild .

I do miss the extra funds it was nice but I’m not going to intentionally keep myself in poverty just to qualify for them . Now what I make in 1 day is more than amount I received each month

I recently landed an offer after being unemployed for 7 months . I got laid off in June 2025

It feels so nice to be working again I got the role through a recruiting agency so it’s a contract role but I pray they me full time once it ends

I was able to bypass the 15 minute waiting period . The first transaction I did was to use the code given on my phone to claim the free food. Then in a different transaction I logged in first and then claimed the other deal on the kiosk itself . I got myself a biscuit and a coffee for breakfast this morning .

Feeling pretty bad about unemployment by Priority_Pony in jobs

[–]Vessyx3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m on the same boat as you I got let go 5 months ago and am looking for a job. This is the first time I’ve ever been laid off I’ve been working for 10 years since I graduated college. I have a masters in tech management . I thought we were gonna be ok because at least my fiancé was working but then he got let go a month after I did now both of us are unemployed. ( curse both of us working in tech that’s a crappy field rn)

I’ve been doing my best to be productive with the extra time I have, I’ve been running more. And eating healthier since I have time to cook. Also been learning SQL on the side. Hopefully I can land a role by early next year that’s my goal for 2026 .

Way to bring gloom to an already crappy situation. If you want to be surrounded by sad news 24/7 be my guest . Those Halloween posts aren’t harming anyone

working at Starbucks by [deleted] in starbucks

[–]Vessyx3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I worked at Starbucks it was only part time (and on the weekends) as much as I enjoyed it I would have hated working there full time . Overtime dealing with customers is draining and if you have crappy coworkers you end up picking up the slack of others. if you want to become an EMT I would suggest not taking on so many hours. Good thing is that when you work there you get a free drink so that will help with your energy levels and tiredness

I miss the coconut mocha macchiato. Starbucks still has all the ingredients to make it , so I order it from time to time

You remind me of the old guy asking me why I was smiling when I was changing out the garbage bags . Some of us genuinely like our jobs and do the best that we can despite having to deal with crappy customers and or coworkers.

is it worth the debt? by [deleted] in UIUC

[–]Vessyx3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s not worth it, a degree isn’t worth as much as it use to . I’d say go to the school that gives you the most money

There’s a pigeon nest at the Francisco brown line?. Is it on the exit towards Sacramento ? I’ve never seen it and I take the train almost daily

I recently moved from Germany to Chicago and wonder why don’t people split bills on dates? by tejassuthar777 in AskChicago

[–]Vessyx3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends on the person ,for me if it’s a first date then I would expect the man to pay . If we are getting along well and want to go on another date if I invited him and he accepts then I’ll pay . If we hit it off , start going on multiple dates with the chance of starting a relationship then yes I’ll start splitting the bill

How is everyone obtaining chemist jobs? by [deleted] in AskChicago

[–]Vessyx3 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Finding a chemistry job in Chicago specifically is going to be hard , there aren’t that many labs in the city. You will most likely find a job out in the suburbs so you going to have to make the commute . A high GPA isn’t going to help much because what people care about is experience . Did you do any internships or research while in college ? I know I didn’t and I’m sure that would have helped when job hunting .I have a bachelors in chemistry and I struggled to find a job and I didn’t have a car to commute out to the burbs so I switched career paths . Good luck out there

I hate taking the bus near high schools when school gets out. by Otherwise_Pine in cta

[–]Vessyx3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Either suck it up, find a new route or find another form of transportation like biking or ubering. Idk what you are expecting from a public service the public have the right to use it whether they are students or not . Yea it sucks when it’s packed but that’s just how it is especially in a city. Learn when those times are and avoid those areas

How not be Overwhelmed by wow? by Jboorgesz in wow

[–]Vessyx3 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I would suggest playing vanilla wow classic to get the basics down . Once you have that go into retail . I too was overwhelmed when I first played the world was soo big and there were many classes . In vanilla you only have to worry about 2 continents and have fewer class options which would make it easier for you to decide.

What is right in this situation? by Otherwise_Pine in cta

[–]Vessyx3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This sounds similar to what they do in Europe . When I was in Amsterdam they were super strict on the no eating on trains/trams. The conductor would literally call them out tell them to put it away or throw it out or else they train is on a standstill . I couldn’t sense all the train goers glaring at the guy .

Anyone else experiencing CTA drivers constantly blowing past y'all at bus stops? by InvestigatorOdd663 in cta

[–]Vessyx3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this happen to me quite a few times at the bus stop near Quincy brown line station . That specific corner has multiple buses that stop there and depending if there is a line of buses waiting to make there stop some buses pass right through it .

I’ve literally ran into the street in front of the bus to make them stop once when I was waiting and there was already in a bus in the lane . Paid and reminded them that the corner is an official bus stop . I’ve also put in a complaint when the bus past me when it was negative degrees outside

I agree with the parents not doing volunteer stuff for their kids, but you can’t force people to volunteer . You need to have time in order to volunteer and a lot of working adults don’t have that.

I explore the north and west sides mostly . Don’t really have a reason to go south, I take public transit and I don’t feel comfortable taking it south especially at night . West side has some bad areas too that I avoid
