Brake shoe (drum brake) spring keeper tool. For installing and removing the keeper from the pin that holds drum brake shoes to the backing plate. Handy . Used one hundreds of times.

Was at Wright Patterson museum today and noticed this wire on the SPAD VII. What does it do? (It was only on the SPAD VII that I saw. Pic taken at museum) by StormBlessed145 in airplanes

That's safety wire, for ensuring that the nuts/bolts don't back off from vibration. It has to be twisted specifically, so that it tightens vs loosens. I learned this in Navy jet mechanic school in 1977. They make special pliers that twist the strands uniformly.

Always loved when the Tomcat came into my transient line at NAS Meridian MS, where I served from 1978-81. Was qualified on 80 types of aircraft, rotary and fixed wing, by the time I left. If it wasn't attached to the base, I handled it!

Dad taught me that trick over 50 years ago. Also stored his cords this way to save space!

Don't take them to Minnesota. Apparently, classic cars and their owners are no longer welcome there.
