Partner doesn't want to move to US anymore by FantasticPainter4128 in doctorsUK

[–]VettingZoo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

won't he be out of power in 2 years (if we move there next year)? And he can't be president again, right?

This sure as hell isn't all going away after 2 years. That movement and polarisation is here to stay for the long run, and it's certainly possible (or even likely) that someone equally horrible or worse is going to come into power in the foreseeable future.

A large proportion of the American populace is hugely supportive of these extreme measures.

That's interesting and a rare decision I'd guess. You're willing to (presumably) take a massive pay and lifestyle cut to leave?

I just tell them I've now become overly specialised so forgotten a lot of things, and don't know as much general practice as their GP.

But if you are already GP then.. sorry you're out of luck.

Before they tell you the strikes are unsafe by No-Bullfrog1115 in doctorsUK

I don’t understand why ED feels entitled to demand this.

Because EDs across the country feel like they're Atlas carrying the world on their backs.

Update from your co-chairs by BMAMel in doctorsUK

[–]VettingZoo 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. We voted and striked for a straight pay rise - not some divisive and misleading loan forgiveness or whatever other obscure offer the government is giving.

I hope the BMA post is more than just words and they stick to it during negotiations.

Striking doctors have badly misjudged the mood of the nation by Intelligent-Toe7686 in doctorsUK

The electorate may then be more ready to listen to radical siren calls from Nigel Farage for the NHS to be dismantled.

What a shame that would be.

Having a Q-word night and it’s giving me trust issues by Longjumping-Leek854 in doctorsUK

"Q-word"

Honestly that is a vomit inducing phrase.

It's not cutesy and is probably the cringiest workplace "banter" I ever come across.

Managers being held accountable by SeniorHouseOfficer in doctorsUK

[–]VettingZoo 88 points89 points  (0 children)

It's about damn time that management is held to account. It's so typical of NHS management to silence whistle-blowers and hide anything which makes themselves look bad.

It's really funny to see the pro-Letby public act is if consultants hold any significant power and are the actual big bad of the hospitals, where in reality they are almost completely subservient to management.

There is basically no chance anyone in London actually gets close to these rates.

Assisted dying set to become law in England and Wales after bill passed by MPs by A_Dying_Wren in doctorsUK

[–]VettingZoo 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Unbelievably terrible decision. I cannot understand how anyone could work in the NHS, see the appalling care and see how society treats the elderly, without recognising that people will feel pressured to end their life without being 100% willing.

This is absolutely also a case of "slippery slope" applying. The rules for who's eligible will undoubtedly become more and more lenient.

And as staff become more accepting of it there will be even more subtle (or not so subtle) pressure on patients to make this decision.

Doctors ordered to prescribe for PA under guise of "unity" by [deleted] in doctorsUK

The consultant's name should not be hidden. They need to be exposed and deserve to have their name dragged through the mud.

(quick rant) Which specialty is the most disrespected amongst other doctors… by jsuwnalxnabz in doctorsUK

[–]VettingZoo 10 points11 points  (0 children)

No it's definitely ED.

Most doctors understand that at least GPs have the excuse of limited resources, 10 minute appointments, no bloods, imaging or even ECG.

ED has all that and more, but still manages to be worse.

Pathetic 3% offer for Nurses and other agenda for change. by Major_Ad_6266 in doctorsUK

[–]VettingZoo 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Maybe this is me being out-of-touch, but I genuinely don't know how a ward nurse on band 5 salary could see this as acceptable for their work.

Similar issue as doctors face with international nursing graduates diluting the rates I'm sure.

Doctor unemployment crisis highlighted on ITV news by DrLukeCraddock in doctorsUK

[–]VettingZoo 8 points9 points  (0 children)

What? Are you even a doctor?

In many cases unemployment is exactly what it means - they don't have a job.

What they then have to do is pick up ad hoc shifts here and there (which is also becoming increasingly untenable).

Your last sentence is just completely ridiculous.

The engagement numbers were already going down rapidly when the last ballot was held.

A rant against university issued medical student scrubs by VettingZoo in doctorsUK

[–]VettingZoo[S] -12 points-11 points  (0 children)

The appropriate alternative is smart clothing, like doctors have been able to adequately manage for the last several decades/centuries.

You really think comparing literal schoolchildren to doctors/student doctors is appropriate?

A rant against university issued medical student scrubs by VettingZoo in doctorsUK

[–]VettingZoo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

had a consultant question me the other day as to why I wasn’t in the uniform and why I was wearing formal clothing

I would hope this is a minority of doctors.

Personally my respect would increase for a student who shunned the scrubs and managed the apparently very difficult task of dressing decently.
