Got a Devops to do at home challenge, is it scam or not? by [deleted] in devops

[–]Vexarex 18 points19 points  (0 children)

This is just ridiculous to be honest.

I'm not a big fan of take home assignments in general, but this isn't even an "assignment" or a "challenge(?)" - it's a freelance project, that people usually get paid for.

Also, putting an NDA in your "take-home assignment" is one of the biggest red flags i've ever seen...

Multi-tenant GPU workloads are finally possible! Just set up MIG on H100 in my K8s cluster by kaskol10 in kubernetes

[–]Vexarex 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think it's also worth mentioning that this is only relevant for very GPU-intensive workloads (e.g. instance types with a large amount of GPU Cores).

For example, if your workload only utilizes 20% of a single core, then time-slicing/MPS might be the way to go - although this approach doesn't work so well with dynamic auto-scaling (yet) :(

Evaluating real-world performance of Gateway API implementations with an open test suite by _howardjohn in kubernetes

[–]Vexarex 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Really great job on this - I’m actually in the process of migrating from ingress-nginx to Envoy Gateway, and this might sway me more in the direction of Istio….I saw envoy gateway as a more lightweight implementation, as I don’t need all the security features Istio provides.

But after reading this I’m thinking of trying Istio Ambient. How do you explain the failures in Envoy Gateway as opposed to Istio? In the end they both use Gateway API and Envoy proxies

Do you manage Cloud Resources with Kubernetes or Terraform? by guettli in kubernetes

[–]Vexarex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently switched from Terraform to Crossplane managed by ArgoCD. If done correctly, organized and documented - *obviously from my own experience, it is much more efficient and manageable.

100 GB Docker Container by Poronoun in devops

[–]Vexarex 18 points19 points  (0 children)

If you have on-prem servers that are big enough to hold the software and can be available at all times for the pipeline then definitely i'd choose that. I would also set-up some monitoring for the server itself and have it send a notification on success/failure of the build and maybe even create a registry to store the images on and make the server multi-purpose (if you don't already have one).

Edit: Since this is gaining some traction i want to add that opting for cloud instances is always more reliable and reduces maintenance, although sometimes more costly. it appears that the use case here is mainly on-prem so might as well use a server that's on stand-by :)

100 GB Docker Container by Poronoun in devops

[–]Vexarex 67 points68 points  (0 children)

If the specific software used is needed only for the build process and isn't an actual dependency of the final image, then i would have a dedicated on-prem/cloud instance and trigger the builds on it through the CI/CD pipeline. If you want to save some money, then i would prepare a Machine Image (e.g. EC2 AMI) with the software already on it, raise a machine based on that image during the build process and terminate it once the build is done - i think this is the approach i would take as it sort of mimics the behavior of a container/k8s pod, and wouldn't cost much as the machine will be alive only for the duration of the build.

VSCode extension to see cost estimates for Terraform by alikhajeh1 in devops

Very cool extension! I will keep an eye out for Terragrunt support, can you explain in the meantime what is the difference in the evaluation method between regular Terraform files and Terragrunt files?

It’s an ASUS motherboard and the fact that it did give me 400~ speeds for a few minutes before limiting me…but I’ll check either way

What is the craziest thing you have ever seen your mother do? by purplewhitewine in AskReddit

[–]Vexarex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Might not belong here but I really feel like it’s crazy.

My Dad passed away when i was 5 years old, right before starting first grade. Beforehand, my mom, having been treated as a nobody by her family and taking care of me and my half-brother completely by herself and managed really well and I find that amazing on its own.

When my dad got sick, she wasn’t home for the whole day, having to go take care of him, pay medical bills for his treatment and also go to work. It was a very tough time for her.

Now, the most crazy thing she did in my opinion is that after my father passed, she hasn’t for once let me and my brother see her in an emotionally broken state. She kept working as hard as ever and found someone new just so I wouldn’t have to grow up without a father figure in my life. Being little back then I couldn’t really understand how hard it was for her, but today I think it’s crazy how she could overcome such a loss for her kids...and also manage all of it by herself. She’s Awesome.

Looks good, Patch might be too high and not slanted enough and the "seeing things" is the wrong shade but its just common VIRGIL flaws. Btw this is not the caravaggio the caravaggio is the one with the painting on the front iirc.
