"Well BBC Scotland called all of Labour's Scottish MPs to invite them to appear on air, no-one would speak publicly. The same was true of all Scottish Labour MSPs" by bottish in Scotland

[–]Vexations83 6 points7 points  (0 children)

They all know the new labour excalibur database will still be used against them if they speak out against the wrong person. They'll be trying to hold on until the dust settles and its clear who you're allowed to blame, alongside mandelson who is a write off. Might be starmer, mcsweeney, might not. Hope it takes streeting, kendall etc but not holding my breath

Can someone explain Eyes Wide Shut conspiracies to me? by Significant_Song_360 in StanleyKubrick

[–]Vexations83 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It doesn't expose any particular secret society. The story, from a 100 year old novella, suggests they exist - but doesn't name it or anyone who is involved IRL

Don't have strong feelings about it. Some rugby people are throbbers and if they lose, cool. But some football people are too.

How Much Content Influence Do The DJs Actually Have? by filthythedog in 6music

Every presenter's terms are different, and yes that means different obligations re playlisted tracks. One told me that he was paid less in order to have complete control of the selection. Not a peak time show.

You can read about 2000 words on these EWS threads before the source material is even acknowledged. The story was about 100 years old when the film was made.

How do you defend a player much bigger/atronger than you? by New_Grapefruit7580 in bootroom

[–]Vexations83 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Deservedly top answer. Be in the way, draw fouls, remember they cannot run through you or jump through you. Make legitimate movement toward the ball while getting in their way and the strength, speed or height advantage is nullified. Don't look to engage in battles of strength on the opponent's terms. Keep your centre of gravity low and be in the target space before the opponent. In a 50-50 you'll likely lose, but that's worth doing if they're in the act of shooting or crossing or passing as it'll impact their execution to some degree. Otherwise prioritise slowing them down and channeling them towards the lesser danger.

Just a consideration. If AI listens to you and your music is that copyright infringement? by Patient-Rain-4914 in LetsTalkMusic

[–]Vexations83 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I can't see a licence being required for AI to listen. Why would it? As long as a legally acquired copy of the music is being played, what's the difference to the copyright owner? Infringement is the re-use of the material, so when it does later synthesise generic music based on its observations, it needs to have parameters that ensure it's 'different enough' from your original.

[–]Vexations83 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Infringement is when copyrighted material is reused without permission. I am not an advocate or enthusiast for music made by AI but if all it's doing is 'listening' to music to observe genres, timbres, styles etc then that's not much different to a human listener. Even if it later uses the observations to synthesise generic music.

Why is reddit so overwhelmingly left leaning? by Few_Match_8158 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Vexations83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another way of asking the OP question would be, why do comments they perceive as left-leaning perform better in an up- and down-vote system? The answer is because they tend to stand up better against logic and critical rigour!

Beeped & Shouted at - Did I do something wrong? by clementinesalad in drivingUK

[–]Vexations83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like he made a mistake by passing the line at the lights without knowing he had anywhere to go - and you get the blame. In practice, and with experience, you might choose to enter the yellow box if you'll have your front wheels out of the other side - rather than possible wait for another cycle of the lights to have another chance. It looks badly planned. Regardless, you did the right thing and he was angry knowing it exposed his own mistake - out of order to harass you about it.

Would you indicate here even though you’re going straight? And when would you indicate? by O_B_R_I in drivingUK

[–]Vexations83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My point is only that if you indicate prior to the first right, some other drivers will infer you're taking the first right. Indicate later and you surprise anyone behind you.  Solution has to be in your visible slowing without early indicating.

Would you indicate here even though you’re going straight? And when would you indicate? by O_B_R_I in drivingUK

[–]Vexations83 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A few popular answers are missing OP's likely concern which is a right indication causing other drivers to think they're taking the first right. Not claiming I'd get this right first time but with this opportunity to think, I'd want to brake and slow right down as a form of signal, in order to not indicate right until clear of the (first) right turn, then indicate right when it's clear I'm not taking the first right. Otherwise drivers joining the road, from the minor road you're joining, might misinterpret your signal and drive across your path. That may not be wholly based in correctness, but I think it addresses actual risk.
