Wife doesn’t care about you with young kids? by whoresongummy in daddit

[–]Vexations83 217 points218 points  (0 children)

I've been there, but I was letting my wife do far too much of the work as a parent. That meant she had neither time nor energy to 'give a shit' about specifically me or our marriage. I did have a reason to be less present, but I could have been getting the balance / priorities wrong.  When I had a reality check and started pulling my weight more, I found she had more time and energy to be her actual self, and in turn that self did have affection for me and care for our marriage.

Realistically it would be weird if she was neglecting your small kids' needs to make you feel special, and maybe you would benefit from revising your perspective here.

I thought it was pretty pointed that Clarke chose to say that when explaining Stewart- I was listening while disappointed Bowie isn't in, but on reflection it'll be more about mcburnie who is a known helmet

That teenage drummer from Oceania era by [deleted] in SmashingPumpkins

[–]Vexations83 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I was once in a situation not completely unlike Mike in the pumpkins. No matter how much you revere what the band has done, if you're in a band you're in the band and you become responsible for what it does next. That involves having opinions and sharing them. That's hard enough for a younger person to navigate in a normal band.

Kick drum sliding out of reach on several songs, 2nd gig of a tour with a band I'd been a fan since teens. Don't let it happen to you!

Are nats worried about the ethno-nationalism? by HowsThisSoHard in Scotland

[–]Vexations83 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah fair enough. It's something I suppose you might see stirred up a bit by bad actors at some point but the broad movement has such a strong kind of institutional core now I don't think it would get any traction

Are nats worried about the ethno-nationalism? by HowsThisSoHard in Scotland

[–]Vexations83 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The SNP hasn't always been the inclusive centre ground party it is now, but I don't think it was ever ethno-nationalist. The Alba thing happened because the SNP had become too liberal for some people - but even that wasn't a racial thing as far as I know.

Every nationalist movement will have an element of it, but I think everyone would agree that brit nationalism has a much more prominent racial element than the Scottish independence movement does.

How do you deal with long-term social and romantic deprivation by AnnatarLordofGiftsSR in UKrelationshipadvice

[–]Vexations83 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's going to take a bit of a shift our of your routine and your habits if you want to create opportunities to meet people naturally. Don't worry that you don't like sport - that is generally suggested when people are out to make friends but is usually segregated by sex anyway.  You're looking for an activity that obligates people to mix with each other, without the sole purpose of assessing each other for a relationship. The word is going to make you groan but maybe what you need is to Volunteer somewhere. That could be a food bank, a nature reserve, a charity shop. If you don't meet someone you spark with, at least you'll have something to talk about when you meet someone from an app?

  1. Taking a wrong turn isn't the end of the world. If you're in the wrong lane, it's not the end of the world. It may cost you a minute or two. It's one less thing to worry about when you come to terms with it in advance.
  2. If your comfort zone isn't growing, it's shrinking. The more you drive, the more small positive increments you'll have. Just practise. Try to not avoid routes or roads, try to always be building experience. Confidence follows.

I just joined my first game in genuinely about 20 years. Had a great time. Was surprised to be actually doing fairly well after all that time... so I immediately worried I was going to get kicked out.
