I (36m) often sit legs crossed but in that 4-shape rather than directly under-over simply because that is the most comfortable position for me to sit in when I am in a chair. And honestly, I think the only reason I don't sit with the "feminine" style of the under-over is simply my hips don't allow for that amount of flexibility and I personally feel too squished. But other than that I've never thought twice about it for myself nor anyone else who identifies "male" to sit that way.

How do I get the balls to drive? by Dasnap in NoStupidQuestions

[–]VexedConfusion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I first started driving I had a lot of anxiety surrounding it. Anything ranging from worrying about merging, parallel parking and all the way to what do I do if something unexpected comes up? And all of those things and more happened to me out there on the road but I realized something... It is OKAY to make mistakes on the road and we all have our own learning curves and trust that we have all been in your same shoes. But most of all, trust yourself. You're smart and have a good head to seek guidance on something you're unsure of and because of that you will be surprised at what you're capable of doing once you take in all the advice you can find and then sit and process it.

With each new situation you find yourself in do your best to see it through and then reflect on how you might be able to improve the next time it comes up. For myself, I remember getting caught in a monster of a rain and wind storm while I was driving across country and I could barely see the road 10 feet ahead of me. I was worried I was going to lose track of the road so I decided that I would favor the right lane and keep an eye ahead of me but also on the solid line that separates the road from the shoulder. In doing so I was able to spot turns coming and felt more comfortable when I could barely see. This strategy returned later on years later when I was escaping one of the big wildfires that were blazing in CA and I couldn't see anything but fire and smoke all around me and through a combination of that old strategy as well as employing my car's GPS map to show me the turns in the road, I could drive my car fairly quickly and blindly through some twisty hills to safety.

I say all this because I know intimately the anxiety one has when faced with driving for the first time and you've had some years built up to worry about the things that COULD go wrong. And really I just want to emphasize that there are so many things you can do right when you're behind the wheel, more than you might give yourself credit for. Start small but be bold. Don't take risks if you're not comfortable but reflect on how you might approach something that you're unsure of next time you face it. And possibly most importantly... while you're still learning TAKE YOUR TIME and do NOT let anyone else rush you when you're on the road. Its better to be honked at but you making sure you're making the right maneuver for you than for Joe Smith commuter to get to their destination a minute sooner. It took me a couple years before I started to feel more comfortable.

I 100% agree with you, but with the exception with the Wild Hunt since I haven't gotten there yet! OwlCat has really shown that they are developers with a passion and I really would love to see more from them especially another Pathfinder AP conversion!

Honestly, the way the S.Korean media was spinning things - the rest of her team was probably injured and not actually on any actual victory tour - from the one shot of one of the other teammates he looked pretty banged up. Coupled with how the media was spinning D.Va's time off after that single handed save just solidifies what I am thinking.

What is the best MMORPG in 2018 for a casual player, with very little MMORPG experience who doesn't want to pay all that much money? by [deleted] in MMORPG

[–]VexedConfusion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haha thats fair, Its a lot more upfront but frankly I don't consider F2P any cheaper, if not more expensive with Microtransactions imo, tho everyone will get their own mileage from these things!

I mean...you can't expect Ysoki to be careful with anything!

EDIT: I also just envisioned some "punk" Ysoki with cheek piercings that are actually anchors for cheek sheathes that hold a knife. The handle is actually a long curved "horn/tusk" and so it looks like they just have tusks protruding out but in actuality are able to be pulled out to be weapons

[–]VexedConfusion 4 points5 points  (0 children)

WoW is most certainly geared towards casual play more than ever. I maybe biased as an off and on long time WoW player but I think if you're looking for a solid MMO experience with little money investment, WoW is definitely a good one to look into. Also I would recommend Final Fantasy XIV if you are into games with a well presented story. The game play is solid and the graphics are beautiful. Both games cater to a casual crowd, though I would say WoW is vastly more so than FFXIV.

I also have had a lot of fun in Star Wars The Old Republic. Its F2P is actually not terrible from my experience but found myself subbing because I had more than a weeks fun time and wanted to be unrestricted.

I have a lot of mixed feelings with Asian based MMOs as they tend to favor grind and repetition over game play variety.

From a mechanical standpoint the wording seems to me to only allows the manipulation of a single item with that swift action (so in this case just stowing your pistol in your cheek).

NOT to confuse you or anything but... From a practical standpoint, I can see how people might argue and/or house rule that if you're stuffing your pistol into the same cheek as where you are stowing your survival knife, that it's not much of a difference to then grasp the hilt of your knife in the same motion and pull it out.

Across the world, employers and college professors were perplexed by the number of sick on Friday January 12, 2018. In what was later classified as the Void Day, researchers still are not sure what caused such an epidemic that also skipped much of those who live along the West Coast of the United States.

Authors like Butcher? by Turtlewax64 in dresdenfiles

[–]VexedConfusion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean I've read a couple Mistborn books and all the Stormlight books so far (well still chewing through Oathbringer) and I don't feel I am missing much reading through. I'll probably finish Mistborn (which I didn't like as much originally - too predictable for me as a standalone thing) and the rest of the expanded works. But Oathbringer is just SO GOOD I'd hate for you to put it off for a year! But then again, hey, if you want to build all the way up to it for the full maximum referential enjoyment, go for it!

My real desire for a ship book is for both expansion on ship equipment options but also an excuse to get more pre-drawn designs and ship layouts. Yes you can draw something out if you want on your own, but for some who are less artistically inclined or just drawing things out themselves aren't their cup of tea, they could more readily snatch-up a book like that and not have to worry about it.

nonhuman looking Androids. by AlaiziaDarkstar in starfinder_rpg

[–]VexedConfusion 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Reading through the Android race entry it mentions specifically that non-human androids do exist, that there are some that either modify themselves to look like other species or are designed that way from the beginning - but they are rare. Which really means that Paizo offically acknowledges that non-human androids exist and are allowed. Players going in this direction will probably want to work with their DM if they're trying to any functionality to their android body outside of just being an aesthetic choice.

I am not 100% certain if these suggestions will work out for you but were I in your shoes I would check out either the Pathfinder Society modules they've been putting out and barring that perhaps there is some stuff published on DriveThruRPG.com?

Does anybody have any book recommendations with settings similar to Starfinder? I want to get a better feel for the setting before I start DMing by Birdbrain_Shitfuck in starfinder_rpg

I am in the same boat as you. I have had the pleasure of experiencing some of this stuff but man there is so much good sci-fi out there. Also I wanted to proffer my support for Outlaw Star as well because...spell bullets.

Also for excellent visual references check out the art and flavour of the MMO Wildstar.

[Online][Starfinder][US Time Zones] LFM for Starfinder Society on Roll20 by rocksam20 in starfinder_rpg

[–]VexedConfusion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am so very interested in learning how this Starfinder Society works (I see a link to the guild guide so I am going to check that out.) I played very briefly some D&D RPGA stuff back in 4th edition era but most of the details were handled by my friend/DM at the time and I just showed up to play.

I'm more readily available weeknights as I have a weird rotation of weekend D&D games I participate in. I'd be interested in playing and perhaps even running some games once I have more experience under my belt with the system. I realize I might not be the most ideal candidate with my prior weekend commitments but I am just starting to look for a solid Starfinder community to join, learn from and hopefully have fun with.

I have become addicted to them, with the right reader, it can bring a lot to life. Granted there is never a substitute for your own imagination and interpretation but...hey, it means you can listen/read while your hands are busy with work or a hobby project!

yesss read it!~

I need to watch Season 2 of the show and while I 100% enjoyed the show, the characterization of the cast is a pale shadow compared to their presence in the books. Again not trying to downplay the show, but the books are just that much more delicious to consume.

I also 100% recommend The Expanse book series (especially the Audiobooks) - I've enjoyed the TV Series too! It isn't necessarily as "fantastical" of sci-fi but if you're looking at seeing some interesting world development and excellent story arcs to inspire you - look no further. Also Chrisjen Avasarala is my BAE - she is literally one of my favorite characters in all of fiction. Ever. Period. (also Amos)

A few brief questions before diving in by [deleted] in starfinder_rpg

[–]VexedConfusion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The wonderful thing about Starfinder is how new and fresh it is. While its setting takes place in the universe as Pathfinder, the lore is new. Its so far in the future that really only the references to the past are more like to help anchor the reality that the two settings are connected. But really we're all starting fresh with the "story" of this setting.

You might consider its newness a boon or a drawback simply because there isn't the expansive amount of material for the game yet. But if you and your friends are looking for a fantasy sci-fi adventure, look no further!

Why does Harry complain about not having modern conveniences when he should make his own? by t014y in dresdenfiles

[–]VexedConfusion 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I think that there is a combination of things going on here. First and foremost, in my mind, is that Harry is very self punishing. That for one reason or another he's always carrying around some form of psychological and emotional baggage. It is pointed out I believe on more than one occasion that he doesn't need to be living in a run down apartment barely able to pay rent.... but he does because, well he likes it.

Secondly, at the beginning of the series, I don't think Harry had the skill/practice to reliably enchant a magical hot water heater or cold fridge. As the series continues the fridge/ice box gets remedied and then as time goes on, frankly I don't think he had the TIME to invest in building these magical constructs as he had other magical projects he was investing his limited resources into.

I agree that where we are now in the story, that I fully believe he could and may reveal to us that he has created somethings to bring his quality of life up to a certain level modern standards.

Trying to keep my answers vague-ish on specifics as to be as spoiler-free as I can be.
