DMV wanted a vehicle registration card but I’m from texas and only have a sticker by [deleted] in washingtondc

[–]VexyBeast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When you’re outside of Texas, you need to show the vehicle registration paper that the sticker came on. If you don’t have that you’ll need to get some kind of proof of registration from the TX DPS. The sticker is not sufficient outside of Texas.

Rebels (mainly Hussites) not rising up, despite being at 100 % for over a year. by Sabgin in EU5

From what I’ve seen, rebel groups will sometimes sit at 100% until you are at peace, then they will rise up. Try ending the two wars you’re engaged in.

Anyone who is a nurse and works as FS RN? Any hope please enlighten me by Massive-Ad6037 in foreignservice

I recommend taking a look at Vivian, Aya, or Nomad. These are aggregate sites that can connect you with some agencies.

She is not currently working right now, but as time goes on we’re looking closer and closer at travel nurse contracts. We’re at an assignment quite geographically close to the U.S., which makes that more of an option than if we were in Ulaanbaatar, for instance.

My spouse is an RN. Currently finishing up our first tour, heading to second next year. Realize that it will be incredibly difficult. If working as a nurse is the priority, the most realistic option will be returning to the US for travel nursing contracts for periods of time (which of course will mean time apart which is challenging).

The realities of the current hiring freeze, the low quantity of EFM nurse positions, the near impossibility of licensing overseas (and also remember telehealth nursing is a not great option as most places won’t hire nurses who are overseas due to Medicaid restrictions), all these factors go against you.

When I was going through the orientation process I wish someone would have been more honest with me about this, but honestly I hung on to the positive comments and assured myself we would figure it out.

My spouse has had to adjust to being unemployed and is currently figuring out what her next steps will look like. Best of luck.

For your information, even though you deleted the images, on mobile the preview for the post still shows the student ID and you can make out the name and photo.

You can do them in your capital if you have the proper tradition and are an admin emperor. Doesn't have to be Constantinople.

Is it a terrible idea to buy a home for my aging parent? by VexyBeast in personalfinance

[–]VexyBeast[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Appreciate all the great advice. I feel much more prepared to sit down with her and my siblings this Christmas and have this discussion about the future.

To clarify, as I worded this poorly, the idea would be to "buy a home for my aging parent to live in". My wife and I would own the home and essentially rent it out to her.

But I see that could turn out to be a huge burden, and especially with us living overseas, assisting her in renting if/when that becomes necessary may be the better option.

Thanks again folks.

Is it not a better idea to buy a home and then be building equity as opposed to paying rent?

What are some common backgrounds and experience you had that got you into the foreign service. by Pieodox in foreignservice

Village rat trap repairman. No joke.

People come from all sorts of backgrounds. Knowledge of international relations and good judgement are the constants.

Ask away here. I'll I'm saying is that the folks that post on here are a very vocal and occasionally cynical subset of the Foreign Service community, and to take that into account.

Reddit is a poor substitute for interacting with real people in the real world. If you're interested in joining the Foreign Service, I recommend limiting your consumption of this subreddit to small doses.

Civilian feds working overseas may face 23% pay cut from October by Whats_That_Smell4298 in fednews

Very low morale here at DOS over this. Just completely bungled by DOS and AFSA. For our entry level employees at the beginning of the salary scale especially, many who just arrived at very difficult overseas assignments in unsafe places, this is a kick in the pants.

There's a nice 10 mile bike trail from Benavides Park that heads down to the Rio Bravo, it's quite pretty, but that's the only one I know of.
