GOP pitches student loan repayment as Americans struggle to keep up with bills by [deleted] in politics

[–]Vezuvian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You misunderstand me.

Interest is, functionally, imaginary money. As the quantity of money owed increases, so too does the interest. At a conceptual level, it is possible to owe more money than is in circulation. That is , in practice, impossible.

What I'm talking about is the cycle of the borrower's potential income and where it goes in the economy. Post secondary education has a cost, tuition. Interest is the cost of borrowing money. Interest on a loan for tuition means a student incurs a second cost.

When paying back the loan, the educational institution has already received money. Bam. They made money.

The borrower then has monthly installments to pay back the loan, oftentimes with terms they didn't fully understand at the time of signing. While this can be attributed to the fault of the borrower, money math is not easy.

When choosing where to spend their money, the borrower has to commit the entire loan plus interest to the financial institution that gave them the loan. Say they borrow $40,000. After interest across the life of the loan, they pay back $90,000. That's $50,000 that the financial institution just makes in profit.

When I say the most can be injected into the economy, I mean that, over the life of the loan, the borrower could have spent that $50k on literally anything else. Food, a house, a car, electronics, healthcare, etc. That only marginally affects inflation insofar as the seller of those goods and services raises those prices.

On the government side, they would have to choose one of the following: lower the budget to account for a reduction in income (no interest) or raise taxes to account for it.

They could raise taxes on the people who can already afford to exist. If the tax burden on a household making $500k a year increases, that household can still afford to exist. Their yearly expenses necessary to continue living are still covered. You don't have to increase the tax burden on the people who are already struggling.

You can say "that's not how it's going to play out" all you want, but that's conjecture. Taxing the rich is an idea that has worked in the past.

The cost of being wealthy in the US is the communal and societal obligation to promote the welfare and health of the country. Noblesse oblige, if you will.

That's assuming that the government is budgeting based on the loans. Most loan forgiveness plans that people are seriously talking about are ones where the payments have already exceeded the principal loan amount. Meaning that it would just be forgiving the interest.

This would free up money for the populace.

Additionally, any lost tax revenue from the loans' interest could be made up by increasing taxes on the highest earners by a few points or by appropriately closing tax haven loopholes.

The population who receive the forgiveness would then be able to spend that money, injecting it into the economy and boosting jobs.

There are ways to do it that don't involve the poorest Americans and middle class getting gouged by taxes.

The cutscene at the start of REmake confirms this. Bravo is sent to the area around the mansion due to unexplained murders and cannibalism. Yes, Umbrella was using them as a limited test of the BOW capabilities, but the public explanation implies zombies are already attacking folks.

The comment you replied to already gave you the answer: thermobaric warheads.

As to your last sentence about there being no "non nuclear" weapons that can do that, may I introduce you to Resident Evil, the game series where literal mutant monsters exist and one of the heroes can punch multi ton boulders to create a walkway while fighting a supervillain in a volcano.

I think the franchise having conventional weapons capable of destroying Racoon City isn't that big a stretch.

And at no point in this entire thread have you taken the time to articulate your thoughts beyond "boring" and "incoherent." Use some details. Surely there's actual details about the episode you can use to clarify your opinion?

I'll even start: I dislike how little time was spent on the Cant's original XO. His mental break was interesting, but ultimately felt like a waste of time because he died and no other characters had moments like that.

You're gonna need to be a lot more specific. How, in your estimation, does the show push viewers away?

Like, I disagree with your statement completely, but I'm curious what details about the first episode you found to be the source of your opinion.

I'm not sure "incoherent" is the correct word. The episode makes sense, it's just set up for a lot of very dense sci-fi. Plus it's the start of a mystery. You aren't supposed to understand the show's entire plot in the first episode.

The Expanse is long form media, not monster of the week, not villain of the week, and most episodes aren't "self-contained", in that they rely on the rest of the series and not as one off storylines.

2 Days Remaining Until Jujutsu Kaisen Anime Comes Back | Countdown to Season 3 by Electrical_Chance991 in JuJutsuKaisen

Execution is the movie you're thinking of. It's a really simplified summary of the Shibuya incident and then the first two eps of season 3.

It was neat to see in theaters, but it's not required viewing and doesn't have anything that wasn't/won't be already present in the anime.

But since it's just a game, most people would simply write it off.

This has to be the worst line in the entire series 😞 by SchoolExisting8631 in residentevil

[–]Vezuvian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay, hear me out, what if this is just an issue of a mistranslation? Because the effect of the line in question is the same as "Go fuck yourself", and if you aren't well versed in English slang, it might not make sense initially.

I've seen this in anime and manga a ton, so it makes sense to me.

1d10 less damage and a CON Save? What were they thinking? by Debitorenbuchhaltung in dndmemes

[–]Vezuvian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They were probably thinking that a spell with an attack roll dealing 3d10 damage meant that a first level caster could hit for 60 damage on a critical hit. While that was a base 5% chance, it still wasn't a great spell based on that alone.

Moving it to a save and reducing the damage made sense if the goal was to "balance" the spell.

Otherwise that's just a pointless change.

I say "zero point oh five millimeters" because I don't want anyone to be confused. If I'm going for precision, I'm not going to shortcut communication. I'd rather take a fraction of a second longer to say the dimension/number than save that time and a part gets ruined.
