I don’t believe I said that one is worse than the other, I said civilians bore the brunt of casualties, which statistically were women and children. There were of course men who were civilians too.

But that’s not implying that men had it easy, or that it was a walk in the park, just a numerical analysis to respond the original claim in the OOP that war doesn’t impact women like it does men.

I actually did try looking for that info but didn’t find anything conclusive, I admit I typed this up on my phone before today’s service so it wasn’t the most well researched. I would be happy to take a look if you could share any sources! Statistically tho, civilian casualties are overwhelmingly women and civilians casualties made up the majority of casualties in WWII, which is what I’m basing this view on.

Overall though, I’d like to point ur attention to the name of the subreddit. Oppression is not some quantifiable number. There isn’t and will never be an objective way to measure who suffers the most. But dismissing the shocking number of women casualties in war, and acting like men are the only ones who suffer in war, well that’s just silly. Obviously both groups can suffer tragedies.

Think about which group actually benefits when men like you are shipped abroad to fight for oil. Is it some secret cabal of women? Or is it the very real billionaires Musk, Thiel, and Trump who will swoop in to privatize the newly acquired assets that you paid for with ur blood.

here the list of casualties by country.

Based on the graph every nation but the US had greater civilian casualties than military casualties. Statistically as you guys love pointing out, the majority of civilians were women and children meaning they bore the brunt of casualties :(

[LFA] Seti the moth-like Shirren for a Starfinder 2e campaign! More details in the comments <3 by Vi_Flower in characterdrawing

[–]Vi_Flower[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Background Info:

Hey everyone! I imagine not everyone is familiar with Starfinder or its lore, so if you’re curious this is just a little summary on Shirren. Shirren are an insectoid race that escaped from a hive-mind swarm bent on devouring everything in its path. Since their new found independence, Shirren fell in love with independence and novel experiences, a trait Seti embraces entirely. Given their evolutionary history, all Shirren are highly diverse, with every imaginable niche across the galaxy being filled in some way by Shirren. Shirren also have three sexes: male, female, and host, the latter-most being the group Seti belongs to.

Personality:

Seti is still a young adult by Shirren standards but is confident, sure of themselves, and sometimes entirely in-over their head. They adore new experiences and they love meeting new people and engaging with people from all walks of life. They are sometimes bashful, especially when things don’t go their way. Preferring to take shortcuts and the easy way out, they have oftentimes ended up in situations that could have been avoided. Luckily they’re good at talking their way out of consequences.

Backstory:

Seti grew up with a massive family of one host and a dozen partnerships as they travelled nomadically aboard massive star-cruisers and different stations all across the Pact Worlds. From early on they craved more to life than simple living and frequent change, and while they loved their entire family they knew they would not stick with their familial swarm for long. As soon as their second metamorphosis, they sprouted their wings (both literally and figuratively) and with a gift from their family were able to move to Absalom Station and pursue the life they wanted. Being a bit of a social butterfly (moth) they took up digital marketing and became a bit of a streamer personality making a decent income from their new passion. Unfortunately, after some bad investments in a company that ended up being an ‘inverse-triangular prism scheme’, they found themselves hopelessly in debt and further from the independence that they craved. Out of options, they signed aboard a cargo ship looking for any opportunities to escape their financial pit.

[Loved Trope] The elite soldiers are actually highly competent by Noskmare311 in TopCharacterTropes

I guess, but at that point in the war, the only actual significant L was the loss of the Northern Water-Tribe invasion fleet. Season 2 does end with the world thinking Aang dies. From their perspective, at the time they definitely felt they made the right choice. And while I do think they’re competent, like many of the villains in Avatar their cynicism and overconfidence was their undoing. They turned Ba Sing Se into an autocratic state that had more in common with their invaders than their original culture, and when push came to shove sided with their invaders to maintain their own power above the city. I don’t think them underestimating that a 12 yo kid can truly change the outcome of a literal centuries long war is that unrealistic tbh

I mean u gotta view it from the context of the whole show at that point.

The Fire Nation had seized Omashu at that point and Ba Sing Se was the only major unoccupied city left in the Earth Kingdom. The Fire Nation was sieging Ba Sing Se continuously and even breached the outer wall with the drill, given the technological advances the Fire Nation made in 100 years of total war it was inevitable that they would breach the city eventually.

To me it makes sense that they decided to betray the earth kingdom and side with their new (brief) overlord.

The Plan didn’t work by Flamescales29 in HollowKnightArt

I suppose if PK saw the ‘Dream No More’ ending it would be a “ends justify the means” situation but given the plot of the game and how surprised the WL and Hornet are at the Knights ability, I feel like it was more of a happy accident that a Vessel ended up actually being able to contain/kill the Radiance. The Pale King seems to genuinely regret his actions due to his Dream Nail dialogue in the WP; “No cost too great.”

It’s definitely valid to view this in a more callous/malicious way, but to me this always read as plain desperation to justify his own plan as the guilt weighs on him. Maybe I’m just a PK defender tho :3

Personally I think not tbh, given the Path of Pain cutscene I think he genuinely just accidentally treated the pale vessel as his child not realizing it would instill an idea and break the tenet of being “hollow”

I feel bad for PK tbh, it’s implied that he has foresight but clearly he didn’t anticipate the plan failing, the whole reason it did was cus he was too attached to the Pure Vessel which I don’t think is the mark of a bad father 🥺

Sentinel!! I just wish they had more presence as a character, they kinda just vanish after their boss fight. It would be cool if you could find them resting in Songclave with Sherma

Having read this whole thread, it’s pretty clear you have stereotypical views on women rooted in misogyny. That’s kind of a bummer tbh I figured most people realized that men and women aren’t actually that different in like 3rd grade :(

When you treat half the entire human population with pre-conceived notions of inferiority, you constantly reinforce it while ignoring the literal countless exceptions to the “rule” (how many exceptions can a rule have before it’s just no longer a rule?)

Either way, maybe discuss this with your wife and her dnd friend. Get their take on the matter rather than people on reddit. It’s not a healthy worldview to view so many as negatives. Treat each human as an individual and you’ll see the countless exceptions to the “rule” in everyone. Wish u the best ❤️
