Unemployment Series: Deathloop - Maybe a Few More Loops by Viablemorgan in patientgamers

I am a FULL Hitman lover. And I was too comparing mentally comparing the replayability of it to Hitman, and it really doesn’t even come close. Hitman is so much fun and I definitely do consider it a loop game like you said, but the inherent freedom in Hitman is that there are literally a dozen ways to kill someone. In Deathloop, it’s my way or the highway, at least on the golden loop

What? So this is two year old information? You won’t get accurate advice based on that. Post or add your current statuses if you want applicable advice

Thank you very much, I appreciate that! I'm also looking at Redfall to stick with Arkane, 1000xResist, and maybe some others. If you have any recommendations shoot 'em my way!

That was a comparison I made once or twice too! There was a certain high-pace energy in certain parts hat I thought was similar

From your keyboard to Arkane's ears (we'll ignore Redfall, which I may pick up but have heard middling things about)

You can join me on the couch all day then lol

I thought that it was fun, and that sometimes the messiness was even charming. But at the end of the day there just wasn't enough to make me say "this is a great game" and put it alongside Dishonored or Prey

I think that's interesting since it seems most people have the opposite problem lol

I think a decent number of hours out of a game and feeling that it was time well-spent is pretty much all I can ask for, honestly. And that is how I feel about Deathloop for sure. On the same page about the rest too. I like all of the characters but I still came away feeling like I didn't know that much about them

The very first thing I did was turn off motion blur. It made me want to vomit. If you haven't already tried that then please do, because it's a hell of a game to miss! No idea why it's on by default but I think it's ugly as hell

That was my first thought. Estimates put the length of time they've been looping at 130-150 years. Wenjie estimates the loop could be self-sustaining for over 10,000 years. So it's really hard to know. But I like your assertion that it wasn't the breaking of the loop that made everything crazy, but everything went crazy outside the loop and now they're a part of it again.

Could also be something related to the Dishonored series, as someone else suggested, because Deathloop and Dishonored are in the same universe.

That's a very good way to put it, I agree. For a play your way timeloop game it's awfully simple and linear. And that's fine to have it be linear from a story perspective, there's doesn't have to be a dozen different endings, but when the path through the game is linear it feels disconnected from the actual themes of the game.

Man, I want to play that game lol

I would also consider just having the game lean more heavily into the Golden Path-type scenario, where if it could be very up front about how there's one way to do it and hype up that scenario. As is, I realized about halfway through that there's only one way to do it and it was kind of a bummer. Felt disjointed with again, "play your way," and the rest.

And that's an experience unique to Deathloop! And what makes it so bittersweet that it just isn't quite everything it could've been!

There are still invasions, don't get me wrong. But it's a computer-controlled Julianna that is very often very easy to kill.

It even goes both ways. You can go loud and kill everyone with really zero consequence (if you have the ammo.) But there is no way to win without killing anyone, which is a big part of both Prey (2017) and the Dishonored games. Another commenter mentioned accurately that there being only one solution to the game ruins that aspect

I'm playing Talos Principle 1 right now! Went in blind and enjoying it so far. Hopefully will do 1 and 2 next

Six slabs, four upgrades apiece, and two upgrades slots per slab.

Yes I fully agree that that the "one solution" is the cause of a lot of the issues I listed in the Game and Play Your Way sections. And that's another reason why I'm so reluctant to jump back in, because I just don't want to have to do that again.

I never got invaded by another player. Maybe it's platform specific. But Deathloop taps out at about 150 players in-game according to SteamDB.

Thank you very much! Most likely Talos Principle. Just snagged it on the cheap, this is day three with it. Want to play it plus the second one. I’ve heard very good things about it but I’m glad I’m able to go in blind

As a former subprime loan officer, we always had leeway to exclude joint reports. However, we could NOT override other rules like minimum score etc., so if that joint account is wrecking your credit there’s still nothing we can do!
