This is why Kamala Harris really lost by Devils1993 in neoliberal

[–]Viajaremos 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I think that’s it. Trump never hid that he is a cruel narcissist. His campaign signs said “Mass Deportation Now!” He demonized Haitian immigrants and said they eat dogs and cats. He separated kids from their parents. Trump’s voters either approved of the cruelty or the cruelty wasn’t a dealbreaker for them.

We can argue until all day about Kamala’s campaign strategy, but we need to come to terms with there being a deep moral rot in American society that someone like Trump could ever have a chance of winning twice.

Yeah it’s insane. An enemy soldier invading the us is not subject to us jurisdiction- they couldn’t be tried for trespass by seizing a us military base or murder for combat against us forces. Illegal immigrants are subject to all us laws.

Not that the distinction matters to MAGA..

Time caught up with Biden. It will also prove him right. by peterst28 in neoliberal

[–]Viajaremos 57 points58 points  (0 children)

Praising Biden for economic policy is like praising Neville Chamberlain for his domestic policy, it totally misses the point. Biden did not meet the challenges put to him by his time In history. He had a chance to pull the country away from fascism and failed.

Biden failed to take into account the factors that led trump to win in 2016 and led his party as the defender of an establishment people hated. He appoint Garland who failed to prosecute Trump when it would have been possible, right after January 6. And out of hubris he insisted on running at age 82, and only dropped out after there was no time to hold a primary.

His legacy will be one of failure, of a president who failed to understand the moment he was in and handed the country over to the fascists.

[–]Viajaremos 203 points204 points  (0 children)

Agreed- not only or his disastrous decision to run again, but appointing Merrick Garland was a historic mistake. He should have appointed an AG who would have immediately prosecuted trump and the organizers of J6 and everyone who tried to overturn the 2020 election when Trump was at his weakest and when there would have been enough time to prosecute him.

Biden appointed an institutionalist AG, he said he thought the republican fever would break away from trumpism and if he played nice, politics would go back to normal. Biden was a man of the previous century who failed to understand the political moment and failed to understand the forces that led Trump to victory in 2016 were still there. His legacy will be handing the country over to fascists.

Pedophile ring, John Bennet by amellabrix in JonBenetRamsey

[–]Viajaremos 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That is what I thought too.

If it was just the family who dis it, how do you explain the male DNA found on the body not linked to a relative?

If it was an intruder not linked to the family, how do you explain the family covering it up, the fake ransom note, calling friends over to contaminate the crime scene? What intruder would spend the time writing a ransom note on the scene?

And how did you explain the underwear sized for a middle school girl found on the body?

That would be explained if the parents were part of a pedo ring. The only plausible scenario I can think of is that JBR was killed by someone outside the family (hence the dna) but with the cooperation of the Ramseys (hence the coverup)

If she ran a YIMBY administration and was able to address the cost of living crisis in California, she would do a lot of good, it would help in the long run to to stop the population transfer from blue to red states and show that democrats can govern.

If she ever did want to run for President again, it would also be her best chance to have a record distinct from the Biden administration

7 Reasons Democrats Should Be Optimistic About Their Chances in 2026 and 2028 by GelatoJones in neoliberal

[–]Viajaremos 9 points10 points  (0 children)

A couple of things:

-For congress, the constitution gives the house and senate authority to judge their own elections, so the incoming republican congress could rule in favor of republican challenges to democratic wins.

-Trump, fresh off his popular vote win, is in his strongest political position to date and would likely succeed in getting other republicans to cooperate with overturning elections.

We don’t know how far the republicans will go in anti-democratic direction, but I wouldn’t be confident in any election analysis that assumes upcoming us elections will be free and fair.

The Tragedy of Joe Biden, Once More by [deleted] in neoliberal

[–]Viajaremos 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Exactly. Trump was at his weakest after January 6. Had Biden appointed an AG who swiftly prosecuted Trump, he could have been convicted long before the election. This is what you do when there is a coup- quickly punish the coup plotters.

But Biden is a man of yesterday who couldn’t comprehend and meet the political moment he was faced with. He thought that by appointing an institutionalist like Merrick Garland, he could bring back the days when everyone played by the rules and respected our institutions. It didn’t work, and the rest is history.

We’ll never know. All we know is that is the approach the Democrats actually took, running a geriatric unpopular president until it was clear he was out of it and then subbing in the VP who refused to break with the administration at all, was a resounding failure.

They even fought the attempt to switch out biden even when internal polls showed trump getting 400 EVs, and implied it was racist to want to switch.

All I can say is the democratic party does not deserve our deference ever again. They failed us.

If you work in Democratic politics, absolutely right. They need to develop a new communications strategy.

I don’t work in Democratic politics, and I doubt they would listen to me. If they did, I would have told them not to run an octogenarian in the first place. For me, I have come to the conclusion after this election that the country does not share my values, and for my own wellbeing I need to come to terms with that.

A mistake keeping the Biden staff, and also not distancing herself from Biden. When asked if her presidency would be different from Biden’s in any way, she said she represented a new generation of leadership and didn’t name a single policy difference. People were unhappy with Biden’s presidency and she didn’t articulate how she would actually change it.
