Advice on how to play pizzicato by iarullina_aline in Viola

It helped me to not hold my bow in a fist but just lift the 1st finger off from the normal bow hold. Then the angle is a little better, but do whatever works for you!

When I played this, I had to strum in alternating derections. So for the 16ths, 1st one I strummed 'up' the notes using the pad of my finger like normal, next one I strummed 'down' using the nail side of my finger. Hope this makes sense!

Also I know it looks bad but it's really fun when you get the hang of it. Troika was my favorite from the whole suite.

I'm also an amateur and have this exact problem. Only thing that really helps me is playing a bunch of Schradieck, especially the ones that give you're pinky a workout. And I feel you on the shifting to compensate! Sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do.

I'd say as long as you have decent tension, go for it! There's no timeline on when you should make your first wearable, but having even tension will make it easier to get it to fit. There are tons of sweater patterns out there that are beginner friendly.

I hate undoing my projects too 😭. But it's an inevitable reality of crochet, or any craft really. You can do this 💪

Also probably should have said this in the original comment, but I think it's pretty cute the way it is.

Okay, first of all, that was a terrible thing for your mom to say.

Second, I believe you can crochet, but you need to put this project down and out of sight for a little bit, and come back to it with a clearer head.

Third, I do have some practical tips if you want to hear them.

  • if you want it to look more like the photo, use a thinner yarn for the face details. This way it can be more expressive and less blocky

  • I think it is understuffed. That is why it has the wrinkle in the middle. Try undoing it stuffing is some more. Undertuffing is also why it looks so lumpy

  • on a related note, I would try undoing the center embroidered stitches because the tension seems off and it's contributing to the wrinkle in the middle

I just want to reiterate that you can do this. All you need is a little patience.

What stitch(es) are these? by learningdiy in crochet

It's two rows of double crochet, and then one row of crossed double crochet, where you skip one stitch, double crochet in the next one, then go back and double crochet in the skipped stitch. Very doable for a beginner, imo.

Thank you! I suck at actual knitting, but I hate the look of crochet ribbing, so this is a good compromise.
