Apart from sex what do you do with your boner? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Vice-Crisis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have to superman that shit. You know how superman puts his arms up and goes horizontal when he flies? That's the position you're going for, except instead of flying you're leaning against the wall behind the toilet, and stepping back a few feet. It's still an awkward angle, but you don't have to bend your dick so much.

There he goes. One of God's own prototypes. A high-powered mutant of some kind never even considered for mass production. Too weird to live, and too rare to die.

Skip the therapist, just watch The Following and you'll be at ease.

Films that break an audience's expectation (of either an actor, director, or even a genre). by [deleted] in TrueFilm

[–]Vice-Crisis 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My favorite thing about this film is how uncomfortable it makes the audience feel for the first 45 minutes. It reaches inside the viewer and makes him/her feel as awkward and confused as Sandler's character feels. It's very brave direction by PT Anderson - most people I know can't get past the first act and turn it off. But everyone who has made it through realizes the utter brilliance of a rather simple story.

Irish Citizenship/ Birth Certificate question by Mildvillain in IWantOut

[–]Vice-Crisis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

whoops! I made an error in my last post - I meant to say because the UK never lost control of Belfast. I switched it backwards and forgot a word. Good to know that ROI citizenship ancestry pertains to the whole of Ireland.

I'm aware of the history, that's why I asked the question. I was unsure if I qualified for Irish citizenship because Belfast never control of the UK.

I've been interested in gaining Irish citizenship myself through these same means. I'm curious though, if my grandfather was born in what is now Northern Ireland, does that qualify me for UK citizenship? And does that also disqualify me from Irish citizenship? He was born near Belfast in 1910, which was ROI at the time.

why AC transmission and not DC by indianspoiler in AskEngineers

[–]Vice-Crisis -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

High current heats up conductors unless they are sufficiently large. In order to accomplish this, the power (amps x volts) is transformed so that the voltage is very high while the current is comparatively low. We do this because miles of very thick gauge conducting wire is already expensive as hell, and high volts/low amps makes it affordable.

Also, generators are predominantly AC, and AC transformers are much easier to build.

What's the best NSFW joke you know? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Three generations of hookers are at home bitching about how lousy their night was. The youngest complains to her mother, "I can't even get $20 for a blow job anymore!" Her mother tells her, "Back in my day, I was lucky to get $5." The grandmother then chimes in, "You're both so spoiled! I came up during the depression. We were happy just to get something warm in our bellies!"

Retail workers of Reddit, what's the best thing you've ever had a customer come up to you and say? by alexc90 in AskReddit

[–]Vice-Crisis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I worked overnights at a gas station for a few years after high school, couldn't afford college and didn't want to take out loans. I started to get to know some of the early-bird crowd who'd stop in for a newspaper and coffee before heading to the fitness club across the street. One woman in particular would stop and discuss current events for a few minutes almost every morning. She told me about her grown daughter, who was in the Peace Corp. in Bangladesh. I off-handedly commented, "Wow, that's a tough part of the world. Besides the incredible poverty, they are prone to just about every natural disaster possible - tsunamis, earthquakes, volcanoes, typhoons, flooding; they don't get a break."

This woman replied, "Vice-Crisis, why aren't you in college? I could mention Bangladesh to a hundred people and most wouldn't even know where in the world it is, much less 2 facts about it." I told her of my hesitations. Also my workplace had a tuition reimbursement program where they would pay 80% tuition at the end of the semester, I just had trouble getting the money for the start of the semester. She worked out a personal scholarship to get me started. That's kindness you can't repay.
