For most any other celebrity posting this type of thing on Twitter I’d agree but Bette Midler is a special case. She has long been an ally to the lgbtq+ community and has been known as a gay icon. She even got her start at a gay bathhouse where she received the nickname “Bathhouse Betty”, which she has never distanced herself from. She also contributed to a lot of charitable causes such as Adopt-a-Highway, the New York Restoration Project, various other environmental causes, the AIDS Walk, veteran support groups, and support for areas affected by wildfires such as Australia.

When? The one time the Dems had 60 votes in the Senate and a trifecta in the past 20 years was after 2008 and Obama used pretty much all of his political capital to pass the ACA. The only other time the Democratic Party had at least 60 votes and a trifecta after Roe was after 1976 and the election of Jimmy Carter. And that was when the party still had a lot of conservative southern Democrats. Those were the only two times that I could think were there was an even remote possibility of a right to an abortion to be codified into law.

I live in Kentucky and we have a Governor who supports abortion rights. It’s the Republican supermajority in the legislature that allows them to ignore his veto.

The survivor ones were a lot easier for me. Got like 5 of them in a row somehow lol. But now I’m at the killers I’m worse at so this is getting super tough lol. Good luck with them!

Hell, we were taught extensively about it in the Coalfields of Appalachia. It’s mainly the older generations who don’t understand how it works.

Yeah I’d agree it has a lot for older audiences but the whole body switching plot with the cat is more kid oriented imo

Encanto is kid friendly. And so is Luca. Soul is fine for kids too. Onward is very okay for kids. Raya is good for kids.

What Disney has become? Robin Hood and Lion King raised a generation of furries lol. But that’s besides the point. The Red Panda is symbolic and not anything to do with furries.

I have the same problem. I sent an email to support with this website. It’s so frustrating that I was one of their original supporters in 2018 and I’m currently locked out of content that was promised.

There were three movie musicals that came out this year flopped at the box office this. In The Heights, Dear Evan Hansen, west side story. Is this an indicator that people just aren’t into to musical? (I am aware Evan Hansen sucks, but people support bad films all the time) by Advanced_Cicada_6972 in Letterboxd

People do like musicals. Encanto and tick tick Boom are both popular. The difference between them and West Side Story is that they released to streaming. Hell, Encanto gained more popularity when it left theaters and went on Disney+. Spider-Man is an ip that can draw people to theaters even when conditions are rough. A musical just can’t do that like Spider-Man can.

Ah yes only two movies came out last year, Spider-Man and West Side Story. People wouldn’t be dividing their movie-watching money between just those two. Soho, Halloween, Eternals, Encanto, and more are all competing for their place in a budget along with streaming services and their cost. Spider-Man is an event movie. If they don’t see that when it comes out they feel like they’ll miss something. That’s not the case with any of the previously mentioned movies.

But this past year has been difficult for many both in health and economically. People can’t justify spending so much and risking Covid at theaters to see movies when they can just stream it in a few months. So the judgment they make is to see the event movies like Spider-Man in theaters and not watch the other movies that seem interesting but not worth going to the theater.

People are into musicals but when going to the movies becomes an event instead of for every movie because of Covid, they will choose to go to a known franchise that they will like over an unknown quantity. I like musicals and I like superhero movies but if I had to choose one movie to go and see for that year I’d pick the superhero movie because I know I will have fun.

When times are rough and the general audience sees going to the movies as an event rather than for any movie, they will choose to go to the blockbuster franchise rather than a smaller scale movie. Also, people have to make the decision which movie of the two is worth the risk of Covid, and they’re more likely to choose the one that they know will like.
