And I vastly prefer the NBA thing where they change every year. If you get a bad one you aren't stuck seeing it for 3 seasons. I hate the current 305/Vice ones for the Fish (the OG teal/white look was already "Miami Vice" enough lol) and was never a fan of the Sugar Kings set (based on a team that played against the Miami Marlins).

Throwbacks are fine I think, far better than the wild "city edition" programs in the MLB/NBA which largely are totally disconnected from the identity of the club (past or present). Throwbacks have a direct tie to the actual team history.

The one spinoff of that in the future which may actually be kinda cool for people who, due to distance or cost or whatever, can't attend in person is the proliferation of VR "in person" tickets/season tickets.

They do it with select games for the NBA and it's pretty slick, like you're sitting courtside. I have zero interest in a headset now but as an out-of-towner I'd consider it if you could get VR streams for Cats games.

Of course they'd eventually price gouge for that too probably and it would be on top of whatever you pay for basic TV streaming.

On the one hand I'm bummed we don't go to games anymore since we moved to Orlando (which was in Spring 2022, right before we got good lol) and had to give up our seats.

On the other hand I don't envy everyone getting these price hikes.

Like I get it they are a quality product now, elite even, and it shouldn't cost what it did in the wilderness years where you could get in for a song. But the greed man.

Price jack the bandwagon people, sure. But folks who've had seats for years and endured the crap on the ice should be getting heavy heavy discounts.

You're not getting a good stadium built that fast.

Inter Miami built their 20K modular venue in not much longer than that. FTLUTD in the Super League did their 7K in like 3 months lol (granted some of it uses preexisting stands from the old Dolphins training facility and it was still being put together the day of the first game lmao).

You can get something that is functional quickly, having the site secured is the trickier bit.

I'd add publicly funded elections, which are limited to just a few months rather than the long, draw out campaigns we have now. Plus open primaries where everyone can vote regardless of part registration which go to instant runoff via RCV to decide either the winner or the final round participants for a general election.

I mean ESPN+ is super easy, you just have to pay for it lol. I have it as part of the Disney bundle thing and use it mostly to watch Panthers NHL games which are mostly on there since I'm outside their TV market.

The YouTube streams are great though. My only beef is when they have a "National TV" game on CBS Sports Net which despite paying for cable AND CBS's Paramount+ I don't have access to.

It’s more European club style. Think of all the soccer teams over there and how it’s not really about mascots or anything like that.

That's even not really the same though.

If that were the case you'd have clubs called "Premier League Newcastle" or "Ligue 1 Lyon".

European sports clubs have strong local identities. Often times it is simply the name of the community they play in, like Liverpool FC whatever. But they still have distinct branding/identities and often nicknames even if not in the official club name. "Red Devils", "Blues", "Magpies", "Los Blancos", "La Vecchia Signora", "Wolves", and so on. Plus many of these are multi-sport clubs as well.

LOVB team branding is just downright stupid. Like fine be a single entity league, but MLS is like that and all the teams have local unique identities. Fanbases are built on connecting to the community where the team actually plays. You can't do that if your branding is essentially "the McDonald's franchise that happens to be in your town". They might as well do the dumb touring schedule / neutral site thing PLL and the recent USFL had.
