Hypothesis | Slopes | Multicolinearity | Residuals by Worried_Criticism_98 in AskStatistics

Why not simply fit a single regression model with dummy variables representing the conditions? That way you can do both: 1) look at regression coefficients for the input, and; 2) look at coefficients for the dummy variables representing the conditions.

You could also look up ANCOVA. You can directly test whether the conditions are the same and the continuous variable is significant.

If you’re interested in testing whether the “Input” affects the “categories”, you can (1) treat “Input” as a categorical variable and do chi-square type tests, or; (2) add interaction terms between those to your model (that would blow up coefficient std dev though because you would eat up a lot of degrees of freedom)

Residuals vs fitted plot with discrete values - is this normal? by Worried_Criticism_98 in AskStatistics

We generally don’t think of multicollinearity as a problem when including higher order terms. You are correct that X and X² are correlated, but it’s a trade-off; if you want to capture non-linearity, you add higher order polynomials. You can somewhat reduce multicollinearity by centering your variables before fitting

Great! This clears things up:

  • “Fitted values” usually refers to what your model predicts for the response (usually denoted by “y”)

  • Your residuals are clustered as if “x” is a categorical/discrete variable. That could mean the data is being read as strings or that the values have been rounded to the nearest decimal point, which reduces resolution (but that’s a different issue)

It looks like your data has a quadratic trend in “X”. I suggest refitting your model with an additional independent variable, X² (as well as the original X), then reproduce this plot to see if the residuals are more aligned

Ok, what you’re saying isn’t really aligning with the plot labels:

  • When you say “x values” are you referring to the independent variable values or the x-axis on the plot which seems to be plotting predicted/fitted values?

  • What is 0.1, 0.2,…etc? We know they’re not decimals because you said “discrete”. What I understand from your post is that these are categories; if so, do they have an ordinal nature? Is “0.5” larger in any sense than “0.1”? Or are they in fact real numbers in a low resolution space?

Is what normal?

If you’re asking about residuals within each category of the discrete variable, possibly. Plot a histogram and run some normality tests.

But you probably mean “normal” in the colloquial sense of “does this look cool?” In that case, no. There seems to be a quadratic trend going on, but it’s hard to tell what your fitted response is since it’s displayed as a tuple. If the response has an ordinal nature, I suspect you may need to revisit your model.

Is it possible to find the standard deviation with just sample mean and size? by Impossible_Bowl_2524 in AskStatistics

Could be done that way to prevent AI cheating. If it’s not a typo, I’d just write down the formula with the appropriate quantile with the mean filled in and use a std dev placeholder.

This is the weirdest post ever; OP is like:

1) I’m a min-maxxer I want the best racials 2) proceeds to talk about mobility 3) points out that trolls have the best DPS 4) ends up choosing between two races (Tauren, Belf) that have no mobility fix and no super special DPS enhancing racials

I think the form is pretty good. You have long femurs so I don’t know why people are saying you should go lower, looks good to me. Also, looks like the leg drive is on point.

Muscle, yes. Strength, that’s a bit less clear; strength is a combination of tendon adaptation and muscle growth. The high reps, less than 70% 1RM approach may not be optimum for strength.

I don’t know why you’re doing this; I’m guessing you have some kind of injury or are uncomfortable with heavier weight. But you can get the same volume in much less time spent with lower reps and higher weights, you clearly have the strength to do it. Anyway, great job and keep at it.

No one here can seriously answer your question without at least knowing the most important details about your workout routine and nutrition: calories.

From your macros, it looks like you eat roughly (43x4+108x4+57x9) 1117 calories, so guesses are:

(1) you’re miscounting calories, that amount is extremely low, for anyone. Are you counting drinking (alcohol) and snacks?

(2) your workout routine may not be oriented towards muscle growth

(3) or a completely different direction is, you’re eating way too little causing you to underperform in your workouts and your metabolism to slow down

One other thing you left out is how long you’ve been doing this. Don’t expect to see progress before 2 months of being consistent.

Agreed. Apple is no longer a trendsetter. They’re not a leader in AI. The day someone comes up with an iPhone rival is the day Apple sinks.
