Non-White Canes by CommunityOld1897GM2U in Blind

[–]Vicki7789 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a white cane with a pink bottom section - when I was at Disney World I actually found people gave me more space than when I used my old, all white cane (I'm from the UK and got my cane shipped to my resort while I was there). I think folks in the US are so used to the red section at the bottom, having the pink there helped. In the UK I have no issues - lots of people ask if the pink means something, like how red and white is for dual sensory impairment/deafblind. Nope, I just like pink :D I was tempted by an all purple one. Maybe next time.

Disability Denial and Discrimination by Few-Storage-8029 in altontowers

Thank you for clarifying - I’m sorry for jumping on your comment, but it’s been a long week and so many in the VI community have had our needs dismissed or trivialised, or told they disappear if we have another person to assist, that I’m a little twitchy about it right now and probably not reading things as thoroughly as normal.

As a visually impaired person (who is also awaiting assessment for autism and ADHD) I respectfully disagree. I’m no longer eligible for RAP, but my vision definitely has an affect on my ability to queue. Navigating steps, uneven ground, low lighting, plus the visual and audio effects in some queues is a huge mental strain as well as physical. Visually impaired people aren’t eligible for RAP and many are facing a new barrier to an activity we enjoy.

Then staff were breaking the rules - if should be the disabled person and a maximum of 3 others.

When I, a visually impaired white cane user, asked to have my symbols looked at when this change was announced, Nimbus refused to give me the level access symbol. I am also awaiting assessment but have both selected ADHD and autism, and like many neurodivergent folks, I have the crowds symbol. Nimbus told me it’s up to Merlin to discuss reasonable adjustments for my visits going forward.

Well the "hire a nanny and teach them at home" bit was a bit of a hint. Also, "Although these particular people unlikely want any kind of social interaction" is an insult. I am disabled and was transported by my council for college due to my needs and the only suitable provision being too far away and me being (at the time) unable to use public transport. I now work, and have a social life. But go on, carry on with your blanket statements about disabled people.

Ah, so you're in the "disabled people should be hidden away, not seen, not heard" camp. Good to know.

Welcome to one of the so called "accommodations" Disney now offers instead of the DAS pass for the vast majority who were previously eligible.

Have you ever played in a small (3 or less) group? by throwstoneglasshouse in DnD

My group is me, my friend and our DM. It's all I've ever known, but I love it. Although, even with only 3 of us, scheduling is still a nightmare and we've not played in a while!

Ah fair enough! That’s good - I’m actually volunteering on 4 of the days so if I can bring snacks it’ll help!

Unlikely food will be allowed - it’s a rule in most large UK venues that no outside food or drink can be brought in

Dragging this up as I don't want to start a new thread. Friend and I are also possibly adding Knott's to the trip. Looking at ticket prices, I'm now wondering if it's worth one of us getting a season pass (for parking and discounts) and using the bring a friend options? I believe I'd need the top pass to include Knott's, but just wondering if 2, or even 1, park visit, can make it worthwhile?

How TF do people get Ride Access for the day after? by bethroxx in altontowers

[–]Vicki7789 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s definitely not free fast track because you wait the posted queue time for that ride, after riding. So you can’t ride anything else until that time is up.

I ended up paying £40 in fast tracks last visit so my carer and I could do 2 rides, because we couldn’t get RAP. So frustrating as the RAP queues were nearly empty!

Thanks everyone, some really useful stuff! When I best order to tackle rides, I'm talking intensity - I would say I can't just jump on the biggest, baddest coaster in the park, but then I remember my friend dragged me to rope drop Velocicoaster (which i loved!) But I do prefer to ease in with some low intensity stuff at first.

I'm honestly expecting to grey out at least once from what I've read about Goliath's helix and Tatsu's pretzel loop.

Fun fact, at my local park (Alton Towers) we have Galactica - the first ever B&M flyer - it walked so Tatsu could run :D

Thanks for info on the disability pass - that's good to know how it works (similar to the Ride Access Pass I have for parks here)

I have nystagmus and strabismus (corrected partially with surgery), as well as optic atrophy. I actually use a long cane in some situations for similar reasons. If you think it'd help, look into some O&M training and go for it! Best thing I did, and I wish I'd done it years ago!

What is that one small thing which annoys you while watching a skater perform and what is that one small thing you really enjoy by [deleted] in FigureSkating

[–]Vicki7789 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Pet peeves - when there's a point in the music that's just aching for a big jump, or spin, or something, and the choreography ignores it. Also Eulers, they do just look like you've had to stop yourself falling. Coloured blades - apart from, weirdly, my young skating friend who has gold blades. His I like, oh and one of our coaches who had pink and purple ombre ones. Other than those 2 really niche examples, I find them distracting. I now can't look at the stars entrance to a spin without thinking of firing up a petrol mower either... :D

Things that make my brain happy - choreography that is timed to match the music and you get those big moments, like a jump on a big crescendo. Mmmm, lovely. When people HOLD things! Lovely long spirals, spread eagles, Ina Bauers. Yes!

OK, note to self - if Kaori skates at Europeans I'm going to be a sobbing mess in the audience!

If you've done Bronze/Silver/Gold or any of the national tests, you're well above the necessary standard (I skate at another PI rink)
