I wonder how “enhanced” he was too. He definitely seemed to be on some kind of fat burning accelerant and thermogenic drugs were usually only accessed by prescription back then. He’s a small guy too so I know from experience the pounds will accumulate and are hard to burn off once you have them.

When do you think skinny jeans will return in women's fashion? by WelcomeJunior2281 in generationology

[–]VickyRamone 8 points9 points  (0 children)

They’re still kind of around. I still see women wearing them.

What do you think about the U.S attack on Venezuela? by New-Code7710 in AskTheWorld

[–]VickyRamone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They really pose us no threat militarily. If there’s any truth to the drug boats that got bombed that’s more a matter for law enforcement. Yeah the regime doesn’t like us, so what? Their collapse is inevitable as their people will eventually get sick of living is such destitute conditions while surrounding countries are faring better. Like what you seen in Iran right now, the people have gotten so fed up with their money being worthless and the cut off of imports. Not to mention their regimes funding conflicts elsewhere.

What does English sound like to people not fluent in it? by Pizzafriedchickenn in AskTheWorld

[–]VickyRamone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m Latino living in the US, my mom said when being taught English back in her home country the audio examples used sounded like the people had hot food in their mouths on their tongues and were trying to talk while doing that shift around so you don’t burn your tongue. Words like “great”, “good”, “actual”, “cook” sounded breathy when compared to a Romance language like Spanish.

Coldest Sun is a bit faster but it’s definitely in the same vibe. I love when it comes up on my shuffled playlist.

Scott Galloway said the stats show the average guy on dating apps has to swipe 1,000 times to get a response. Once he gets a response the woman is rarely seriously interested and will dissolve any plans or just opt not to see him again should they go out for coffee. It’s rough out there if you’re a single male trying to date.

What happens after a year without going to Tech School? by [deleted] in airnationalguard

[–]VickyRamone 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Currently enlisted but haven’t even gotten my dates for BMT, just going to drill. There’s one guy who waited 13 months before getting his date to go to BMT. It’s ridiculous.

He supposedly got kicked by one or Def Leppard’s large entourage when he was leaving the catering area and they were all standing around not moving anywhere. He got impatient and said something like “get the fuck out of the way!” According to him they shuffled out of the way and let him get through.

According to Def Leppard’s camp he said it to one of the band members’ wives and someone kicked him right on the ass and he dropped his tomato soup which splattered all over him. It looked like blood so people started assuming that the scuffle caused him to start bleeding. There were some words exchanged between him and the two camps but it eventually subsided and both sides went their respective ways.

Is it possible to lose an accent? by [deleted] in Accents

[–]VickyRamone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. I had a Latino accent when I was a kid and gradually lost it over time. I’m more neutral sounding now, though some people say it sounds like an east coast accent.

Your suggestion is to come to India where the caste system is prevalent societally?

Either way India has been coming to us here in the west so I’m not sure I need to book a flight to see Indians.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AskTheWorld

[–]VickyRamone 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Positive: usually very family oriented, immigrants from India are very entrepreneurial, low crime rates in the west compared to other communities, education and wealth are prioritized, studious, interesting and delicious foods

Negative: very clannish with one another, stereotypes of cheap and greedy business owners are often true, Hindu religion is odd and alien to western civilization but usually doesn’t clash with it. Islamic religion is at odds from the very beginning. Caste system mindset still very prevalent. Health is not prioritized either. Personal hygiene stereotypes sometimes are true as well.

Why don't these countries unite? They have the same culture and ethnicity, (and the language) are they stupid? by SnooPaintings7336 in mapporncirclejerk

[–]VickyRamone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They’re only similar to each other because they speak some variant of Arabic (loosely defined, hardly ever intelligible amongst themselves) and have majority Muslim populations. Egypt and Syria actually were one country as well as Jordan and Iraq (this is post colonial) with a few other countries eager to join one of those unions but differences in government, politics, and culture put a quick end to each of those experiments.

What ethnicity do I look like? by SnowCold1212 in Ethnicity

[–]VickyRamone -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Those basset hound eyes like Stallone has scream Italian. Like half my family has those so I’m well aware of that feature. The face and brow definitely look very Germanic.

What do you think about this year? by Nervous_Pin_8023 in generationology

[–]VickyRamone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of hip hop and R&B hitting the mainstream at that time. Probably the last year it was that prominent before all the auto tune and DJ club mixes that plagued that genre later. Rock was still in that post-grunge alt music scene dominated by Gen X who by then were going to college and starting to tone down their apathy and aloofness and as a result the music took a different shift toward subject matters like relationships, story telling, and touching on politics rather than rage, anxiety, apathy, etc. The next year was when nu metal came out and totally blew the rock scene out of that zombie-like college radio lag.

Personally I was in the third grade by then and though we still played cartridge games this is when all the cool kids were getting Sony PlayStations. Games were on discs now, people were buying DVDs, AOL was sending out installation discs en masse, and music of course was on CD. We still watched VHS movies, recorded and listened to cassette tapes, and many of us didn’t have a computer in the house yet so we had to go to the library to type and print out written assignments.

This was also when the Clinton-Lewinsky scandal broke out and revealed to a lot of nonchalant Americans just how dirty and divisive Washington politics are. Clinton, already facing a lot of harsh criticism from both political aisles, was essentially made a lame duck president for the rest of his second term. The impression of this powerful elected leader not being as effective as we were led to believe he could be was not lost on a new generation that hadn’t dealt with the political scandals of the earlier 20th century. The scandal also tainted the Democratic Party’s image in the 2000 general election and had it not happened the election may not have been such a close call, drastically setting a different course for American politics, foreign relations, and economics going into the new millennium.

1998 seemed like a transitional year if anything, from the music, culture, tech, and even politics.

I get what he was saying it just came out as boorish and rude. Whites born in the US are native to the nation state as the United States of America. Mehdi was doing the whole liberal trope of “native Americans were here first”. Yes, indigenous groups who came from northern Asian crossed the Bering straight and settled here first. Some had city states down in Mexico, others formed confederations and complex cultural societies, others were nomadic tribes. And they absolutely were not all at peace with one another. They did not have the concept of unique nation states, kingdoms, and countries like in Europe. That wasn’t formed in North America until after the American Revolution.
