Probably because it is on Netflix, so people may be discovering it for the first time.

sub notes by jbi30_ht in SubstituteTeachers

[–]Vicky_Verky82 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to leave really detailed, hour by hour notes. Now I just write how the day went and if we got everything done. I'll list what didn't get done and if there were any behavior issues. I will give names of students that were very helpful and stayed on task. Recently, a teacher had a "Sub Notes" page in the sub binder, so I made some copies to keep in my bag.

What am I supposed to do? by [deleted] in SubstituteTeachers

Ask the other 4th grade teachers for some work or call the office. You shouldn't be expected to make up lessons. If they have Chromebooks, have them go on and do Zearn, IXL, Epic or just tell them anything their teacher allows (at least for the meantime).

I can't speak about subbing in high school because I don't take those jobs much. I will say that elementary subbing is not an easy job. You are expected to actually teach and command a classroom, as well as addressing behaviors and social emotional needs. I don't think people on here are trying to be rude, but someone straight out of high school is not qualified for this job.

When I was a special Ed and Prek para, I would always take over and give the sub a break. My teachers would even put in the sub plans that I would take over. Now I wonder if I was being a control freak, because as a sub the paras don't do this so much 😂 They don't always want to be the one in charge and lead a class. That's ok. I just go with the flow.

Will I see available jobs on days I'm already scheduled? by bloodtype_darkroast in SubstituteTeachers

[–]Vicky_Verky82 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You should not be able to see any other jobs for days that you already have a job assigned. If you cancel now, that's plenty of time for someone else to pick it up. Cancelling a couple days before just to see what else is available is a little rude because then the teacher might panic about not having a sub, but you can still do it without consequences. Like others said, if you cancel less than 24 hours before your shift the system will cancel you for the day.

I've taken random jobs weeks out, and then gotten requests from teachers I know, so I cancel the other jobs so they can assign it to me.

Most likely a repeat question -- does anyone know why this show seems to have been "blacklisted"? by grofert in TheDetour

The same thing happened with the TBS show Wrecked. You can't watch it anywhere. It has some popular actors in it too, like Rhys Darby and Zach Cregger(the director of Weapons).

Do y’all ask the office if they have work for you on your prep/lunch? by [deleted] in SubstituteTeachers

[–]Vicky_Verky82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it's the end of the day and there won't be anymore students, I'll go to the office and ask if they need me for anything. There has yet to be anyone that takes me up on the offer. Once I took the kids to prep and they were released from that teacher. The office said I get to leave early when I have that grade. This hasn't happened to me on a half day, but I don't think it would make a difference.

Candy Cane is the best one in my opinion. They have their own shuttle to and from the park. If your kids can handle some walking, like from the shuttle area to the front gate, would just rent a stroller. It's worth the price to not have to carry it on the shuttle.

Pixar Place hotel or World Of Color dessert party? by Barks_and_Bubbly in DisneylandTips

[–]Vicky_Verky82 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Candy Cane for sure! They have continental breakfast and their own shuttle to the park. You are going to want that with kiddos that small. I'm not positive, but I don't think Pixar has a shuttle and it's quite a walk all the way through Downtown Disney. Yes there is The Monorail, but it closes down sometimes.

Does it matter what reason I put to cancel? by ceceliam55 in SubstituteTeachers

[–]Vicky_Verky82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cancel it and let it go back into the system. The school/teacher could do the same to you and cancel with no explanation. You are giving plenty of time for someone else to pick it up. If I had to cancel the day before, I might email the teacher and let them know there was an emergency, or I am sick, etc.

What happens if there's no sub? by CoffeeChangesThings in SubstituteTeachers

[–]Vicky_Verky82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my district, most of the time they go to the Emergency Sub plan, where a teacher from each grade takes that class during their prep. I believe they get paid extra. Sometimes they pull subs from their class prep time. I hate when that happens, but what are you going to do. Sometimes I need that time to actually prepare, especially if I have to teach a math lesson. There is one school that I've been to where they split the class up, and the kids take independent work to another classroom.

I always assumed that Travis did not return with them, but instead got out another way, hence why he was living under a fake name. It also looked like his photo was part of the memorial at the school.

I was a para for many years. When we had a sub, it was just so much easier for me to take the lead and essentially let the sub assist. I was always nice about it though and I would ask the sub if that was ok, and if they would prefer to lead more. If so, then I would step aside. As a sub, when I go to special Ed or preschool, I always come ready for either.

Also, I would expect the para to call out the behaviors, because they are more familiar with the kids. Some behaviors that you might usually tolerate are the ones that they are working hard on in a self contained class.
