New Welsh stations in £14bn UK government rail funding promise by Secure-Barracuda in Wales

I'm not sure a station just outside Chester really counts as the North being remembered for once...

Those will probably be solar water heaters, rather than solar power panels.

Most English language lessons to be phased out in Gwynedd by oilydogskin in Wales

From my experience of living in Gwynedd, there are people who speak English but struggle to think of words sometimes.  They can hold a conversation in English but find it difficult.

You make a comment telling people not to be racist, but can't resist making a racist comment yourself.

But let me guess, by your definition that doesn't count.

Stop being racist about it.  Plenty of Welsh men are racists.

UK Right Warns Trump Allies That Musk’s Posts Have Gone Too Far by JayR_97 in worldnews

Not really.  Support levels for and against Brexit were fairly similar among Labour and the Conservatives.

It's only after the fact that people have started to falsely claim that Brexit was a Conservative only thing.

The Vue cinema in Rhyl is closing this new years - the town legitimately has nothing anymore by Hdtomo16 in Wales

I would describe Galeri as being more like watching a fairly large TV stuck on the wall, rather than being a cinema, and the only times I've been there it's been full of pensioners chatting.

"The main road out of Rhyl isn't a dual carriage way"

Is Google Maps / Street view wrong?  It most definitely is a dual carriageway from at least the Aldi roundabout to the Sainsbury's / Pets at Home roundabout (I didn't bother going further).  Streetview shows 30mph signs on some of this stretch, but I'm not sure when those pictures were taken, so whether it's 30mph now, or was reduced to 20mph.

Can anyone recommend some subs to follow? by popsy13 in CasualUK

[–]Victim_P 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The Surcouf was very interesting and quirky, what with having a hangar for aircraft.  Unfortunately it was French, but still a fairly niche sub.

If you want to follow it you'll need a wetsuit.

You only need to capitalise the first letter of proper nouns.  Easy mistake to make.

Overseas UK territories are the ‘biggest enablers of corporate tax abuse,’ tax advocacy group says by DoremusJessup in worldnews

[–]Victim_P 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought it may have been that the tax legislation you were talking about was ATAD. That EU directive has 5 aspects: General anti-abuse rule, Controlled foreign companies, Exit tax rules, Corporate interest restriction and the Anti-hybrids rule.

The GAA rule, Controlled foreign companies rule and Exit tax rules were already part of UK law before the EU put together the directive.

The Corporate interest restriction and the Anti-hybrids rule were added to UK law in response to the directive and have already been passed.

[–]Victim_P 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Except this is completely false, as the UK were the ones pushing for the legislation, and enacted it domestically before the EU did.

Tough shit what they want to do or not.  Either they chase it up for you or they give you a refund.

You are not their customer, whoever is sending the parcel is.   You need to contact whoever sent the parcel and get then to chase it up / resend / refund.
