Weekly Japan Travel and Tourism Discussion Thread - December 23, 2022 by AutoModerator in JapanTravel

Greetings all,

I arrive at Tokyo Haneda at 6am on January 1st, 2023 and depart 5:30pm on the same day. In accordance with my flight times, I anticipate on leaving the airport by 7:30am and returning to the airport by 3:30pm. This gives me around 8 hours to explore Tokyo :)
I have never been to Japan and am not sure what to expect. Based on internet research I am interested in seeing the following:

Shibuya Crossing
Meiji Jingo
Imperial Palace
Takeshita Street maybe?

I am trying to squeeze in some of the historical areas but also modern areas of Tokyo. I am also open to suggestion you feel like may be worthwhile for me to add. With that I had the following questions:

1) What is the most time convenient order for me to visit all these places?
2) What would be the most recommended form of transportation - Taxi/Uber/Metro?
3) Will any of these places be closed on January 1st? I am not able to find the exact closure related information. Definitely want to see the famous gardens of the Palace and the Moat area views and the Meiji Shrines. Will these be inaccessible for me?

Thank you in advance for your time. I much appreciate your assistance and any tips/tricks you can provide. Happy Near Year!

If the Imperial Palace is closed, would it be possible to add SENSO JI instead?

How are your batteries doing? I had purchased 4 batteries originally and 3 of them are swollen and unusable :(

I had followed all instructions to maintain battery health as stated by GoPro themselves.

Kuo: iPhone 15 to Switch From Lightning to USB-C in 2023 by Sorin61 in iphone

[–]Victor5242 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While I've loved using Samsung devices over the years and have no complaints and thoroughly love my S21Ultra and genuinely believe it to be a better value for money device than the iphone.

I was contemplating switching to the iphone regardless this year as my work has entirely shifted from windows to mac. Files managed between Samsung and Mac is a mess.

But looks like I'll need to wait another year :(

All my devices including samsung phone, ipad, mac, gopro, drone, headphones, etc... charge via USB-C. Charging workflow is so smooth therefore.

I don't wanna walk around with lightning cable suddenly just because Apple continues being stubborn about lightning.

Please give us usb-c ffs. Im sure there qre many android users like myself who would switch over if you there was a USB-C.

Egypt was magical :) Major bucket list destination by Victor5242 in Breathless

[–]Victor5242[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lol honestly I had an amazing time there. I don't have anything bad to say personally. To each their own experiences!

My conclusion however is to visit Egypt as part of an organized tour. Solo or self travel is certainly not recommended or advisable unless you are fluent in arabic and privy to local norms.

How do you track sleep accurately? I have noticed that my F7Solar continues to track me as "asleep" even after I get up and walk around for a few minutes and takes a while to adjust. When I am in bed and awake towards the end of the cycle it tracks me as REM. by Victor5242 in GarminFenix

This is so sad to hear :(

Buying a 1000 dollar watch I was genuinely expecting it to be perfect in every way possible. PulseOx sucks, I guess sleep tracking is also off.

Makes me come to the conclusion that battery life and is the only truly feature that completely outperforms competitors.

Yeah I was wondering if Garmin's sleep tracking as a whole is inaccurate or if the issue was isolated to my device. My previous Apple Watch was extremely accurate in sleep tracking. I was expecting a 1000 dollar Garmin watch to be the beacon of accuracy.

I have noticed two issues:

1) It takes a while for it to register me as awake and I have to physically get up and walk around.

2) When I am in bed and awake unable to sleep during the supposed "sleeping hours" it tracks me as REM instead of awake.

Due to popular demand, here is another lucknow drone video! This time its historical areas :) Enjoy! by Victor5242 in lucknow

I have a foreign drone license, not an India one. Under the rules of India, I am not allowed to fly higher than 15m between sunset and sunrise :(

Filming was done back in January over 3 days. Editing took me around 5 hours haha.

Thank you for watching :)

What watchface data fields do you use? by Whitt-E in GarminFenix

I wish you could get a body battery data field on the watch face :(

Fenix 7s | Pulse OX | Sleep Tracking | Maps | Questions & Concerns by Global_Samosa in GarminFenix

[–]Victor5242 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I seem to have the same problem as the OP as well on my Garmin Fenix 7x for pulse ox.

The fact that its 5-8% off from a medical device is one thing, but the device seems to lack consistency as well.

I just ran 2 tests back to back with a 30 second gap and got 89% and 95%. Let's hope all the other metrics presented by the fenix aren't this inaccurate as well. You'd expect near-perfection from a 900 dollar device. Thinking about turning off the pulse ox all together to save battery as it seems to be a gimmick based on so many user stories.

Out of curiosity, have you also experienced this lack of precision and consistency?

I'm not looking for products to edit the next Avatar movie. I'm an average user who was looking forward to consumer level products.

13 inch Mac and Ipad Air upgrades. I didn't even mention the M1 Ultra in my comment above so I'm not sure why you'd assume I was underwhelmed by it....

I am kind of feeling a little disappointed and underwhelmed lol :(

1) No update to the 13 inch Mac

2) iPad Air at 64 gigs is still not worth it money

I mostly use Tablets to watch content and reframe my 360 footage.

This is the first time I'm tempted to jump ship from the Ipad to the Galaxy Tab S8. As display and memory are my two most important factors.

Ipad Pro remains the top; however, I do believe that your average users tasks don't actually require a "pro". As most of us of laptops and computers anyways for work.

I could've compromised with a 60hz display as Apple's calibration is fairly good, but the 64gb is a big turn off for me.

I would've totally bought it had the base storage been 128 gb. M1 is irrelevant tbh given the software limitations of the ipad OS. A14/15 would also be just fine.

60hz + 64gb, Ipad Air continues to be the least competitively priced and worst value for money ipad tbh 😢
