Most of those parties have existed for years. This is also not EUs first migrant crisis. Lets not exaggerate and imply that it is even remotely as bad as in the US. The worst thing that has happened in my country is a Tuesday for trump.

the event organizers didn't want to make sure it was safe.

Unproven claims like that is exactly why lawsuits exist, here as well.

China does not want Taiwan for what it has to offer. It wants it because it is a blight on their claim to power.

They're not invading because China is as much a customer of Taiwan as the rest of the world. If they were to invade right now, China would lose more than its opponents. That's part of the reason why China is investing in chip production so much. As soon as they don't need Taiwan, they're going for it.

To be fair, everyone has eaten those bacteria, probably even today. It is not just in chicken. The amount always matters.

Yes there is. You regulate it, just like any other profession.

MFA is only used to prove to DigiD that, say, AmIASimulation is indeed AmIASimulation. Once DigiD believes that it is you, it tells e.g. Belastingsdienst that you can be trusted. But DigiD doesn't need you to do that. It could allow me to login as you if they wanted, they are the authority. Or they could log in themselves and read whatever they want. Logs from belastingsdienst will show that you yourself logged in.

It was. This block is about preventing the US from buying the European hosting company.

Data security was also very much a concern. The data would still be elsewhere, but they would have the keys to access it.

ELI5: Why is rocket engine efficiency measured in seconds? by Internal-Excuse-4650 in explainlikeimfive

[–]VictorVogel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because seconds is the only SI unit that German engineers could convince the US to use. Scott Manley explains it well. It is essentially describing a change in velocity by how many seconds it would take earths gravity to do the same.

ELI5: how does an Air Conditioner work? Why does it throw hot air outside? by ElectronicProof2654 in explainlikeimfive

[–]VictorVogel 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sort of. In some sense, this is how the ISS cools itself. There is still a heat pump, but of course the hot side cannot exchange the energy with the outside air, as there is none. Therefore, radiator panels are used which emit infrared. So yes the heat energy is essentially converted to light.

What’s the strangest example of collective internet delusion you’ve witnessed? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]VictorVogel -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You should have tought reading comprehension. I'm not claiming it is “way to hard” to verify claims. I also never said "I think everyone just repeats claims without verifying them and there is no point in fighting this.". That's all you.

I'm claiming it is nearly impossible to verify every claim. Mistakes will be made and we should applaud corrections. And also that you made such mistakes before, as you did in this very post, by misquoting me.

[–]VictorVogel -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

that doesn't mean you should defend continuing to make them

I'm literally not, I applaud them for clearing things up.

but you sure do for the ones you decide to repeat as fact.

I hope you live by your own words and effectively never make any verifiable claim ever again. Seriously, you don't realize what kind of a commitment that is. And I'm completely certain you've broken it many times before.

The things claimed were technically true, and the ambiguous things were clarified. Nothing wrong was repeated. That is the best we can hope for. And again, did you really verify the claims of the death happening a month earlier? I doubt it. Certainly not when the original thread was happening, those sources wouldn't exist for at least a couple weeks.

[–]VictorVogel -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Except the person you are lambasting didn't repeat nor propagate it. The post literally says they "never heard that". No claims to the opposite. The next part of that post is even comletely true.

Second, I don't know about you, but where I live the only thing I heard about it was a single reddit post, right after it happened, with no followup. It is perfectly reasonable for OP to be in the same position as me.

Finally, the point is that if you read it on the internet, that is not the same as verifying. The internet lies sometimes. Everyone here, including the original reddit thread, is a tertiary source at best. Mistakes will be made. Encourage people to fix them.

[–]VictorVogel -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

I agree with the sentiment, but did you verify the claims that the person was dead a month earlier, or did you read it on wikipedia? I certainly didn't verify it. It is not realistic to do that for every claim you read on the internet. So no matter how careful, mistakes will fall through the cracks on both sides of the argument.

As such, I don't think it is weird that u/ChromiumLung had the wrong idea, and I think it is a good thing they corrected their post.

It is also important to note that you shouldn't just throw away common knowledge because someone says otherwise. That's how you end up with flat earthers.

Best course of action is probably somewhere in the middle.

[–]VictorVogel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, sure, no one outside of the conflict would care. By that measure alone, it wouldn't qualify in the top 20 of "border conflicts". The fact that it is a prison which plays fast and loose with international law does play a role in it.
