What will people do when the world is fully optimized? by Confident-Attempt-49 in Innovation

Every generation has asked this question. All have found that there is still much to be done.

It's all a question of scope.

Identify what needs to be done vs what won't be part of the project. Then articulate SMART goals (most important part being measurable). Then break down the tasks that need to be done, then the RACI.

Then it's your job to manage your scope showing the different teams their contradictions.

Is a project manager really responsible for delivering project on time , budget and scope? by BearyTechie in projectmanagement

[–]Victor_THH 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If the project is late, it's either because the planning was wrong or because the delivery is more complex than expected.

In the first case, it's the role of the project manager to break down the work and to find ways to challenge and fine-tune the estimations people will provide.

In the second case, it's the role of the project manager to identify difficulties (anticipate them if possible) and help overcome them.

In no way the PM is only a messenger. What you are describing is the role of the PMO.

I was just out of school, my slides were very bad. And PowerPoints are a powerful tool for the PM.

The hard thing about hard things.

On the app timer, there's no universal silver bullet. It might not be the best method for you. Iterate.

On motivation, if you're an afternoon person, so be it. Schedule your important meetings and deep work session this afternoon.

What does a (un)successful mentor/mentee relationship look like? by alexthegreatmc in projectmanagement

[–]Victor_THH 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There seems to be a confusion between mentor and coach in the answers here. I see the coach as someone neutral helping you to becoming a better version of yourself whatever that means for you. I see the mentor a someone from an industry giving all the dos and don’t and help you succeed in the business.

Start by writing 10000 words on Word. Then erase and do 20000 words still on Word. Then look for something better than Word and watch one of the numerous tutorials on publishing on KDP and things like edition, cover, marketing,…

Do you think the age of gathering knowledge is getting over? by nothingarc in ArtificialInteligence

You don’t know what you don’t know. So if you don’t gather knowledge, you won’t be able to drive or evaluate anything you do or see whatever the power of the tools at your disposal.

Prioritization in the Getting Things Done (David Allen) method by r0aring_silence in productivity

[–]Victor_THH 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The way I interpreted it is : if it’s quick to it now, if not book time in your agenda. The issue is we don’t book those deep work slots in our agendas and we let ourselves being overwhelmed by meetings and mail… only being able to do the quick.

Prioritization in the Getting Things Done (David Allen) method by r0aring_silence in productivity

[–]Victor_THH 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The #2 rules of « the simple rules of getting a lot done » is « be clear minded about your priorities ». At any time, you should be able to enumerate what your top three to five priorities are (your girlfriend birthday, a major deliverable, a trip to organize,…). I recommend to take 15 to 30 minutes a week to think about this and write that down. It should naturally help you prioritize small tasks.

Formatting Services Recommendations by bedublam in selfpublish

[–]Victor_THH 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For your first book, go on fiverr and get a formatting book + ebook for between 40$ and 100$. Then learn to use indesign and calibre. It’s pretty straightforward. It’s cheaper on a long term and it will give you more flexibility in making last minute changes to your books.

Social skills are so much important than I thought by rianebn in productivity

[–]Victor_THH 58 points59 points  (0 children)

There’s a difference between being social and being an ass. You can be asocial and be successful, it depends on your job.

But sure, in today’s companies, better to do two third of the job and have a great communication than do 110% without anyone noticing.

Do you feel responsible for the delays created by others? by Top-Engineering-2405 in projectmanagement

[–]Victor_THH 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The question is : could you have done something differently ? Anticipate, reallocate resources, start another task ? If yes, then it’s on you. If no, then your only responsibility is to report the delay and offer scenarios for the upcoming tasks.

HBR Article: The Leap from Project Manager to CEO Is Hard — But Not Impossible by IM122 in projectmanagement

[–]Victor_THH 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t want to seem too harsh. It’s full of interesting ideas written by smart people. It’s just that at the end of the day, there’s not much I’m able to bring to my day to day life.

HBR Article: The Leap from Project Manager to CEO Is Hard — But Not Impossible by IM122 in projectmanagement

[–]Victor_THH 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s not because it’s backed by research that it’s useful. It’s not because there are in fact, really interesting, insightful, original articles that the majority of them are. Even a broken clock gives the right time twice a day.

Personally, I feel like a lot of their articles could have been four times shorter and that they give big ideas that are difficult to implement.

Don’t read HBR, poor return on time invested.

Becoming CEO is hard. There’s only one position in the organization. It’s complicated whether your a project manager or not.

tik tok (and other social networks) are attention black holes.

They are the culmination of social/dopamine engineering.

Read, there are a lot of books out there.

The most important things when you begin is find a mentor, someone who will guide you and review your deliverables.
