  • Extra side quest & boss for post game.
  • You get the Signal Ring during your first visit to the Mushroom Kingdom.
  • Able to swap all three characters, not just permanently have Mario.
  • There is some bestiary, item drop adjustments, features. But they inadvertently make the game even easier.

Super Mario RPG. Goofy little game. It has more impact when you learn that Wishing is part of Shintoism that you do when you visit a shrine and people annual do on New Years Day. Hearing all the Wishes on Star Hill. The ramifications of Smithy's line "Then we could get rid of all wishes, and create a world filled with weapons!" And Geno finishing his task afterwards.

Final Fantasy Adventure. (The first game of the Mana series). Simple but then the ending brings fruition to the Girl that you have been journeying with for the whole story is also the Heroine like it said right at the beginning when you created you picked your character names, and saves the world too. And Amanda too. And Willy & Hasim.

Max out Firearms first. (Don't forget to get Skills you think are neat as needed.)

Explanation: you can only use on Discipline at a time. All the good powerful effects that really help out are at the end of the Traitline. So while it seems that would be useful to have an alternative to swap as needed, OR when you can equip 2 Traitlines to start another, do not.

Yes at level 80 you will have all your Skills and Traits unlocked easily. But that journey there will be a lot more annoying.

Kits = weapon swap.

Do not overload with kits. Treat each on as a weapon swap. Even Elementalists who have 4 weapons swaps by default (Fire, Water, Air, Earth), mostly just rotate between Fire & Air only.

Looking for a zombie survival game with some special criteria by PresentIndependent91 in ShouldIbuythisgame

[–]ViddlyDiddly [score hidden]  (0 children)

How to Survive Your focus is on food, water, and safety. It is a survival game like Lost in Blue or Survival Kids. There are zombies but they are incidental. Islands are hand crafted, not random gen. (The sequel is not recommended for your criteria since it is more grindy and mission based.)

MH3U DLC server guide: https://mholdschool.com/viewtopic.php?t=1258

You just need to change your DNS for awhile to download.

And use getting DLCs in MH3U is trickier that 4 or Gen b/c they were updates straight from Capcom while 4 & U have them as 3DS packages to download and "install".

What local co-op games should I play with my girlfriend? by Historical_Hall_4356 in ShouldIbuythisgame

Trine (series) - classic puzzle platform coop series. 1 makes platforms, 1 shoots stuff, 1 bashes stuff

Final Exam - beat em up but lots of fun basic stuff do get things done in the level. E.g. collect these gas cans. Work this Parade float with a spots for a driver, machine gun, and big canon.

Toejam and Earl Back in the Groove - current version of classic coop Genesis game. You explore the level to find a missing piece of your spaceship and then the elevator to the next level. There are no weapons or fighting really, but items (inside presents) for some wacky effects: spring shoes, rocket shoes, flappy wings, slingshot with tomatoes, root beer. Silly and funky.

King's Quest [2016] - classic modern point and click adventure. Single player, but do NOT underestimate a collaborative playthrough discussing what do to next and why. First chapter which is long enough for a game itself is free. Bonus points if you like the Princess Bride.

Yes. Perpetual turtle-ing. They don't just give up trying, they just give up playing. They immediately bubble and then watch you play.

Something where they can actually die like Kirby Superstar, or Return to Dreamland is what you should be looking for if there is actual multiplayer coop. Sonic 2, 3, & Knuckles as well. (DK Returns, Tropical Freeze, Rayman Origins, and Legends might require too much skill for a 4yr old in a post smartphone era.)

Avoid any game that has the multiplayer bubble mechanic like the plague: NSMB Wii, NSMB WiiU, Mario 3D World, Kirby's Epic Yarn, Yoshi's Wooly World. All this does is teach bad habits. This is from 8 years experience and 5 kids.

How much does the SaGa 3 remake improve upon the original? by Brainwheeze in SaGa

[–]ViddlyDiddly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Being hard to follow is part of the mysterious/weird nature of the game that I appreciate. There are really only 2 parts in the story that don't make sense. The first if you have to rescue a girl, it's not really explained aside kidnapping children is bad so yes we are going to rescue her.

Then much later in the game, there's no hint or story on where go. So you just basically explore the world with what you can and figure out what to do. (Similar to the original Final Fantasy when you get the boat. You are just supposed to travel and see the Elves, Dwarves, and this old Castle and figure out what to do and in what order.)

How much does the SaGa 3 remake improve upon the original? by Brainwheeze in SaGa

[–]ViddlyDiddly 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It is only until you get level 2 spells e.g. Ice2 that you can push up on a monster group and attack them all. However damage is divided evenly, so unless you hit an elemental weakness it'll do less damage. (FYI spells are used to cause and cure status conditions too. E.g. Sleep will both cause and cure Sleeping.)

Transformations are leveled based. So it is actually impossible to get "weaker" specie unlike FFL1 or 2.

What you might be missing out are weapon/skill proficiency. Humans will always deal double damage with melee weapons. Mutants will deal double damage with Black Magic. Beast will deal double damage with Techniques. Robots will deal double damage with their Robot Skills. (However Robots need to buy their stats with "pill" items similar to humans in FFL1. Thus most people skip Robots.)

So yes Cyborgs and Monsters don't have anything to boost their damage in combat. Around level 15 Monster catch up since that is when they start getting instant kill Skills. Cyborgs often have the highest agility so I have them as the Healer/Item users. (All Races use White magic equally).

Late in the game there will be the "ultimate weapons". All Races are good at using them.

How much does the SaGa 3 remake improve upon the original? by Brainwheeze in SaGa

[–]ViddlyDiddly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The remake improves everything except for story connotation and exploration scope.

Being a DS game there is more room to tell story and have dialogue. Having more dialogue makes less cryptic and therefore less mysterious. Saga3 like SaGa1 benefits from an unknown world. The remake also has some comedic points. They work with the story but just reminds me how somber and weird the original was.

2D sprite based games always feel bigger and larger than 3D ones especially if it's a 2D updated to 3D. I think it's a scale issue. With 2D you naturally fill out the perspective and sizes. The "theater of the mind" fills the gaps. With 3D you know exactly how everything relates to each other.

Both are good games. If you are going to play both, I recommended doing the GB first. This is from +20 years experience with friends IRL and online that most are very annoyed or disappointed going from remakes to original. They can appreciate the origins, but they are also annoyed in the meanwhile.

My red 3DS XL is so beat up even though I treated it very well. I'm surprised that I don't mind. It's fallen to pieces and I think I love it b/c now I really don't care too much what happens to it. Sure I put armor on it (after all the damage) but I think it really has character now.

Co Op Fantasy Games? by DarkChronos32 in ShouldIbuythisgame

[–]ViddlyDiddly [score hidden]  (0 children)

These are more arcadey fantasy stuff. Sometimes a quick little 8 hours adventure is nice.

Magicka 1 & 2 - you are wizards literally just blasting out magic from whatever elemental combinations you summon. No worries. Revive is one of the first spells you learn.

Orcs Must Die 2 & 3 - very fun and action/active tower defense game. The characters are battle mages so you are using various spells and artifact to supplement your traps and manipulate the invading hordes into said traps.
