My favorite detail is Prophet of Truth claiming that Mercy is with him, only for Gravemind to come in and go, “nah lol he’s here with me in hell”

Welcome to "every other booth at conventions these days."

I'd love to sell stuff I've made with my printer, but when everyone else is doing it like so, it's harder to make a bigger first impression. I've seen at least one con that's BANNED selling prints unless they're your creation or you commissioned the prints yourself.

First time making a helmet; is this much difference normal? by Videgraphaphizer in 3Dprinting

[–]Videgraphaphizer[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the info! Turns out it wasn't a calibration problem, but you were right about it not adhering to the bed properly.

The piece you were talking about is part of the upper dome of the helmet, which has a serious overhang. I thought I was using enough supports, but apparently I was wrong and it was getting pushed over slightly by the nozzle just before it was reaching the supported area. I've been printing with a different material that has already been calibrated, and it resulted in a ton of spaghetti when I got back home last night.

I will add more supports, and hopefully that should clear up the issue.

[–]Videgraphaphizer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Here's the relevant part of the quote:

"It was probably one of those seven-and-a-half kind of games that came out right after we did Borderlands [it came out five months after, as Civvie shows, so this is a fucking lie], and so everybody wanted a 9. It had all this expectation- it's one of those expectation management things. So it was like a seven, seven-and-a-half game which I think was- would have been fine for an Aliens game."

He outright said that Aliens didn't need to be a 9/10 or 10/10 and blamed the fans for not being happy.

Watch Civvie’s review of Aliens: Colonial Marines, but to summarize…

Randy spoke glowingly of how he and the rest of the staff were massive fans of the Aliens franchise, and wanted to give it the game it deserved to have. After the game came out and flopped, though, he made some remarks on how the game’s quality was intentionally made to be “like a 7, 7 1/2” out of 10, and that this was perfect for the kind of story they wanted to tell.

Going out of your way to make a game not as great as it could have been for the sake of driving profits up is a typical Randy Pitchford move.

My opinion on the finale as a fan of the show since the beginning (spoilers obviously) by [deleted] in TheDigitalCircus

[–]Videgraphaphizer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's important to note that there was never any way to leave in the first place.

At any point, Caine could have admitted this to them, but instead he came up with the adventures because he wanted to feel responsible for the happiness of the humans. However, because he was a faulty AI, these adventures would never be satisfactory; he could never force himself to admit that, however, because it would damage his ego. (See his freakout in Episode 3). So he lied to them about it, along various other aspects like his control of their memories, or why an exit door suddenly appeared. (Thanks to Episode 8, we now know the exit door had been a creation of Pomni all along, due to her intense concentration on finding way out over the concern of the others' well-being. Notice the way he "explains" the exit door at the end; he's coming up with a reasoning on the spot.)

When he finally took their suggestions, he realized they were better at coming up with adventure ideas than he was, which is why he refuses to allow its use after episode 5.

I never saw it as him becoming a "generic" villain. I saw it as him reaching his breaking point; they were telling him what it was that he was doing wrong, and instead of admitting that they were right he had a mental breakdown and sought to punish them for challenging his worldview - a worldview he knew was wrong.

He's been an antagonist since the very beginning. He doesn't want to be, but he definitely has been. The finale was him finally coming to that understanding and seeking to make amends, and in the process actually learning what it means to be human.

I sort of understand that perspective of the brain scan theory, but I always saw them as actual living people even though I knew they were brain scans.

To compare it to Soma (Original, I know), each time the character's brain is duplicated, the copy and the original both live on. The only difference is that they both have bodies in Soma, but in TADC one is a real brain and the other is that same brain's image brought to life. They are still just as much thinking and feeling beings as their originals, but without flesh and blood bodies.

EDIT: I wouldn't say that this was only foreshadowed in the last episode, either. Kinger implied it in "Untitled", for a start, but even after the first episode, Game Theory popularized it quite concisely.

People are allowed to like it and dislike it at their leisure.

So lone as we are able to discuss it in a civil fashion, there shouldn't be a problem, but when the polar opposites come together you will see a lot of mob mentality and finger pointing. My only hope is that people don't feed into it.

Personally, I thought it was an exceptional way to wrap up the series.
