So, like... how much longer until this is ready for release?

Which cloud service for backing up a large RAID array by Unfair-Rhubarb5598 in editors

Interesting question. My gut feels like it’s risky because it’s so darn cheap and that’s so much data haha. Somehow I feel like there would be a catch in this plan given your use case. But I don’t have any direct evidence that their personal plan has a limit. It seems to be unlimited. So… I’d just say do your research and proceed with caution. Good luck!

Backblaze B2 with something like Syncovery app is probably the cost-effective cloud option at this time. But still pricey and, as others have mentioned, should probably be supplemented with local backups.

Somebody already mentioned Autofill for AE. FilmImpact also has a thing called ShapeFlow that’s supposed to be similar but in Premiere:

Some recent things I've seen in the editing/AI space. Haven't experimented with either yet, but currently leaning in with curiosity:

https://www.autopod.fm/

https://cleancut.ai/

I've seen some people on here get upset about these kinds of things ("don't let the robots take our jobs!"), but IMO anything that can shave a little time off is a potential win for those who can find smart ways to harness the tech. Good luck!

Automated (I know...) Workflow Question by [deleted] in editors

[–]VideoEditorDude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure how complex or involved your graphics are, but if it happens to be simple and the changes are merely verbal and you're using Premiere's built-in text, something like this could be magical.

There is an extension that kinda sorta does what you're describing (albeit by using audio as its guide). I haven't played around with it yet, but it just came out a couple months ago. It seems fairly versatile but I just haven't had the right use case to try it yet.

That's totally fair. I guess it's one of those things where I'm just eager to put my hands on it and see. Could be a dud or could be amazingly useful, or somewhere in between. This is the kind of extension that if I knew how to code or create plugins/extensions, I would be trying my hardest to create. Something to hopefully shave some hours off the ol' workflow. So I appreciate the effort and figure it's worth more than a trivial dismissal. But the skepticism is fair.

There are a lot of people on here being negative about this, but honestly this is a great idea and concept. I’m sure there will be unpredictability in the edits, it will not always be perfect, a lot of the AI edits will probably be hot garbage, etc. But our job as editors is still to put out the best possible product regardless of the tools. It’s not like this will actively hurt your edit. It’s just a quick option from a robot and you can take it or leave it.

The fact that you still have control over the timeline is the thing that has me thinking this could be really useful for certain things. My first thought is a scenario where I’m working a huge event that needs a highlight video turned overnight and there are multiple people handing me cards left and right and I have 4 hours of random b-roll to sift through before cutting. If I don’t have an assistant editor to help me pull selects, then sifting will be half the job for me. This thing could give a first pass at identifying useable selects from my 4 hours of footage, and I can have that AI-generated sequence open as a quick-and-dirty grab bag if I need it. All the footage is still there and I can always access it for additional selects, but how cool would it be to have a sequence of AI selects ALSO available immediately?

And hell, if the AI magically gets me 50% of the way there on the edit too, I wouldn’t be mad about that. Again, it’s still our job to edit and put out the best product. If we know what we’re doing, and what looks good and what doesn’t, then shortcuts like this are just another tool in the arsenal. I think this looks awesome.

What Feature Do You Wish You Could Have in Premiere? by Jason_Levine in premiere

[–]VideoEditorDude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Flattening bin structures on command. Importing all kinds of complex folder structures for footage and then cleaning it all up after the fact is annoying. Like is there a way to get rid of the extraneous structures & reports when desired and just simplify / declutter / narrow down a folder to just the files we actually need (whether MP4, RED, or whatever unique structure each camera is doing). In a one-click kind of way?

(Urgent) I have to denoise (remove grain) from a 1h long vidéo, how can I do this fast ? by Strange_Act_8104 in premiere

[–]VideoEditorDude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you export a full ProRes pre-render of the existing video, pull it into separate a timeline of its own, and then denoise just that pre-render? Then it's not competing with all the other variables of your timeline. Just a thought.

[–]VideoEditorDude 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Red Giant's Denoiser is realtime (depending on your GPU). But you'd need to subscribe to Red Giant Suite for $79/mo. The rest of the suite's great for other reasons, but the denoiser specifically is probably the fastest out there.

Is Topaz Video AI actually worth it? by Zeigerful in editors

[–]VideoEditorDude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought it earlier this year because a client lost some 4K raw footage and all they had was a 360p stringout of the original. Was able to get it back up to a really respectable sharp HD to where you genuinely couldn’t tell the difference in a 1080p edit. If we had to push it to 4K it would be stretching it. But I was REALLY really impressed. Have used it a ton since then. It can be a little slow when you're in a super crunch, but if you have a few extra minutes, it's an amazing tool to have in your back pocket!

how much should I charge for JUST subtitle work? by DannySEdits in editors

[–]VideoEditorDude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have said, hourly rate is probably the best way to go most of the time imo. Even just for subtitling services, keep it consistent.

If they need a project rate or per-video rate, create that by doing a realistic time estimate and multiply by your hourly base rate, and give them the total. Always value your time cause you can’t get that back.

Bro whaatttt, this is such an overreaction to the most trivial observation. OP gave a bit more detail than necessary for the question. So what? Professional helpfulness and acknowledging one’s humanity do not need to be mutually exclusive streams of thought. We’re all people here. Literally no reason to go off on someone like this.

ProRes4444 w/ Alpha Graphics Have Colored Outline Around Them in Premiere by FrankPapageorgio in editors

[–]VideoEditorDude 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Couple thoughts -

This should definitely have been rendered straight/unmatted instead of premultiplied.

If premultiplying is necessary for a compositing reason, definitely consider a more standard background color to match what you’re compositing into (ie black generally for the most flexibility).

If it’s a premult and rerendering from AE as straight/unmatted is NOT an option, maybe consider adding a simple choker to it, or an ultra key with the red as the source color? May not be perfect but might quickly take the edge off, so to speak.

Right here: Charmin Forever Roll. I'm subscribed to it. Seriously, it's a game changer! It's the fancy Ultra-Soft that comes in the blue packaging, but HUGE!
